Yeah, it’s growing on me as well but honestly, anything can grow with time. It’s still not a great theme no matter how you listen to it. It’s better with a headset but it’s very poor in terms of orchestrations and rhythmic, at least for Elfman’s standard. I do actually think that the theme as a potential when played in a more organic way, with the pictures, but it’s closer to his minimalist POTA and T4 themes than say Spider-Man or Hulk.
And come to think of it, it’s normal : that kind of theme fits better the really monolithic DC musical universe. It does sound that he wasn’t given too much freedom. Or that he chose to stick with what was already existing.
I’m sure it will have its moments but the hype is gone for me…

The object looks gurgeous but that tracklisting is basically the original CD tracklisting so it’s far from a “full” score. What credit can we give to the announced remaster ?

To be completely honest, Elfman is really not the most talkative person out there. I’ve never seen him being really comfortable in interviews and even when the questions were pertinent or out of the “generic pool”, his answers always leaned towards the same old explanations.
That’s perfectly fine though, some artists are really good at talking about what they do; others just do their things and that’s it.
I really wonder how the Batman theme came up to him though…
I really wonder how much of the existing musical material will Elfman use. Will he quote a lot of it ? Will he tweak the themes ? Will he come up with something new ? Will he use his old Batman/Flash themes ? It’s doubtful but he might make an homage to himself here and there.
As for the film, it looks busy, loud and shallow.
With a release so far away, I wouldn’t count Elfman’s omission in the crew list as anything indicative. Still, I’m not getting a good vibe about the Elfman-Burton relationship lately…
I like it. To me, it’s the best Spider-Man score after Elfman’s. It has a feel-good vibe that I enjoy. Giacchino experts seem to say that it doesn’t have much imagination compared to his recent efforts but honestly, I’d take Giacchino any day over Bates or Zimmer.
He’s barely touching the comic book genre anymore, it’s not like he’s in charge of the Marvel or DC Universe. Would he only write small scores for small projects, we would get tired of it as well. Versatility is one of his main quality after all.
If I wanted to hear the same thing every time, I’d be a Zimmer fan.

Incredible news although I highly doubt we’ll hear Batman or The Flash theme in there (a quick quote perhaps). It’s not the same kind of movies and I bet there are some lawyers that wouldn’t let it happen anyway…
Yup, that doesn’t sound very promising, there’s definitely something going on. I guess we’ll see, Dumbo is still in preproduction if I’m not mistaken…

FYI, Tom Hanks is in talks to play the main vilain. Will Smith was also in talks for a while but it didn’t work out (not that I’m complaining).
