I agree one of the best and most original scores I’ve ever heard and experienced!

The cue that makes me well up and weep is right around where Edward is sitting down and the sheep dog sits beside him and he cuts the hair away from his eyes. It’s an ‘sad-irish spring’ sounding moment that reoccurs in other Elfman work such as Black Beauty and Mission Impossible.

…Anyways, pretty sure thats a cue/theme I’ve heard in the movie “Good Will Hunting.” A beautiful piece of music. I remember seeing the song title ‘wheepie donuts’ in the end credits in a few films.

Waiting too long Danny for Music for a Darkened Theatre Vol. 3 and 4!!!

I really should add, “Henry V” by Patric Doyle. Also “City of Angels,” by Gabriel Yared.

    “Don’t touch that squirrel’s nuts!”

    LMAO!!

I can’t wait to see this!!

    I agree.

I hope that line doesn’t get lost in the ADR. I almost wish that one was saved until the movie was released.

Here are the scores I love. Some of them are inseparable; others stand well on their own, and others went on to become “movie preview staples.”

Although I love Danny Elfman and have a huge collection of his music I listed my favorites, so I’m not just writing down info you can get from the “Music from a Darkened Theatre 1 and 2 series.”

    1492: Conquest of Paradise, Vangelis
    A Simple Plan, Danny Elfman
    AI: Artificial Intelligence, John Williams,
    American Beauty, Thomas Newman
Back to the Future, Alan Silvestri
    Backdraft, Hans Zimmer
    Batman; Batman Returns, Danny Elfman
    Being There, Johnny Mandel
    Black Beauty, Danny Elfman
    Dragonheart: Randy Edelman
    E.T., John Williams
    Edward Scissorhands, Danny Elfman
    Empire Strikes Back, John Williams
    Fargo, Carter Burwell
    Forrest Gump, Alan Silvestri
Gladiator, Hanz Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, John Williams
K2 (music inspired by the film) Hanz Zimmer
    Legend, Tangerine Dream
Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, Eric Sera
    Midnight Run, Danny Elfman
    Pee-Wee’s BIG Adventure, Danny Elfman
    Rain Man, Hans Zimmer
    Robo Cop, Basil Poledouris
    Scrooged, Danny Elfman

There are something like three cues from Hot to Trot on Vol. one. And what I was refering to is within that grouping of music. I agree its quite fun music. I Don’t see any reason for an upload if you already have the CD. I don’t think there was a soundtrack (score) released for the film. Maybe an LP or Cassette lying around. Anyone know?…

Food for thought. I wonder what Tim Burton’s “Hot to Trot” would have looked like had he took the gig back in ’87/88. …and if he did would he ever dream of making “Big Fish,” or working with horses ever again.

If at all possible, it would be wonderful to have an optional flash intro with pictures, and including a musical “history of Danny Elfman music.” Perhaps usuing excerpts from D-Bo’s sweet suite. Those who are new to the site and Mr. Elfmans music can use this to learn more about the music of Danny Elfman and his historical influence. Just think, what a way to mark the twentieth anniversary of his first major motion picture score, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, coming up this August! I don’t know how this can be done legally though. Any thoughts?… (maybe for educational purposes?)

I’m sure Danny Googles his name every now and then. In fact he could be doing right NOW!!! …and reading this very post saying “Silly yes, oh well.”

Interesting. I like he Spider-Man suite. I also like what you have put together for the “History of Elfman.” I did something similar to this back about ten years ago with Hans Zimmer music (mine was less graceful…and it didn’t help much with dates either. MFADTvol1 does however make for great conversation!)

I would like to hear this reworked into “The Evolution of Elfman.” I feel that, albiet necessary, there is too much Burton/Elfman. I would like to hear some transitions in there. Although there are many more to chose from here are a few cue that I feel you missed and should consider for “D-Bo’s revamped version of ElfmanSweet”

Forbiden Zone, Back to School, Scrooged (La, La, La, La’s would be nice after Beetle Juice), Darkman (theme and Carnival from Hell), Night Breed (meat for the beast), The Flash (theme), Delouris Claiborne, MI:1, Desparate Housewives, Hulk, Big Fish. Well there are tons to chose from, and you have done a wonderful job all ready. I enjoyed listening to the suite you put together. Great work!

Fifteen years WOW! I still enjoy listening to this masterpiece and watching the film yearly. I recently watched the DVD comentary with Burton. I really liked the life observation he made and captured beautifully of “people sitting and watching the neighborhood in their garages.’ Fantastic movie. A ballet..interesting.

The Midnight Run album is great music to clean your house to. If your a bailbondsman or bounty hunter you could play that as your personal theme music.

I really like this score too. It stands on its own very well, and has been used in other movie trailers too. The childrens voices (can also be heard on MFADTvol1) always reminded me strangely of the “Meow Mix” jingle. Try singing along to it. “I want Tuna. I want liver. Meow mix, Meow mix please deliver.” (meat for the beast)
It’s a very hyper and intense piece over all. It classic Elfman and similar to “Carnival from Hell” (Darkman) in terms of ‘action’ meets violence with a hit sarcassim.

I believe that “Try to Believe” is actually on the Soundtrack to “Midnight Run”during the end titles. I may be wrong, but I’ll try to believe.

Not sure if I got that quote right though. That’s how I remember it. Call it a reimagination if you will. It is a wonderful movie moment to this day.
