ParticipantRyan,
I too have used Garage Band on a recent indie film I worked on. There were some pretty impressive sounds available to me. I let the producer chose the sounds and composed the music to the scenes, mostly live, occasionaly creating a multitrack.
I would like the option to swiitch from Mac to PC if need be (depending who’s computer I’m setting up at). My current keyboard allows me to do this. I’m looking for more ‘real time,’ BUTTONS, KNOBS, SWITCHES, FADERS, and DIAL interfaces with the computer–not having to stop and reconfigure in a menu.

Participant“Carnival from Hell” from Darkman and “Meat for the Beast” from Nightbreed.
PHIL
ParticipantDo I hear a pre-occupation with Scrooged in there?? I remember watching that show with my dad. That was such a ‘dad’ show.
…little bit of the Spidey theme too… Always interesting to hear how a composer evolves.
PHIL
ParticipantI’m as sure as Indie said to Elsa in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, “…pretty sure…”
PHIL
ParticipantGees!!!…thought that was me on the computer monitor.
it is not, however.PHIL
ParticipantWelcome back!!
PHIL
ParticipantHans Zimmer.
PHIL
ParticipantThis should be packaged with MFADTIII. That would be way cool. Three disk collectors set.
PHIL
ParticipantI liked the way the song and video progressed. Great story telling “A bit silly, but I am still fond of it.”
PHIL
ParticipantEither way, whether or not Elfman ‘writes’ or hums. He creates some wonderful scores. And we have all experienced a part of musical mythology for centuries to come.
PHIL
ParticipantMore butt sax please. Haven’t heard that in ages…
PHIL
ParticipantTHX 1138 Elfman Guy!!
PHIL
ParticipantPersonally, I would love to see the two collaborate on Sandman Mystery Theatre
PHIL
ParticipantMy B-Day is August 26!! Is Burton’s birthday August 25th or 26?
PHIL
ParticipantYep! Charlie’s father worked in the Smilex factory. I cracked up when I saw it. No one else in the theatre got it. You could pick out the Elfman/Burton fans in the theatre by the laughometer.
I love the various progressions during the ticket montage (traveling to various countries) –musically and visually a wonderful and hilarious sequence!
“Interpretive Stereotyping”–Burton is wonderful at doing this subtley and in your face at the same time.”
PHIL
ParticipantBummer man. I guess it depend on how seriously you need the music, how much entertainment value you’d get out of it, and whether or not you’re sacrificing rent, eating, or all of your other obligations. Personally I don’t think it’s worth it. They are still selling the ‘soundtrack’ with two Elfman tracks that’s definitely worth buy for $16-20. …Or you can find it used at your local store or online I’m sure.
PHIL
ParticipantOff topic a bit…
“I had a revelation–a vision–a picture of this!!” -Doc Brown “BTTF”I recently was discussing music by Hans Zimmer with a friend:
K2: Music Inspired by the film
It’s pretty cool. The first track is longer ‘takes longer to climb’ vs the 2nd track which is shorter. ‘the journey back seems shorter, or it’s all down hill from here.”
Tekno ToeKnee: how…deep
sprocket philms: I know! I’ll have to post that on a forum.I believe this goes along with what others have been saying about their favorite scores–that the good ones can stand alone, yet are still inseparatable from the movie for which they were written for.
PHIL
ParticipantI was impressed with Deep Roy. He had a great look and played the role very well. Although there were moments were the lip sync was distracting. He really got into the heads a oh so many psychies. Very cool.
PHIL
ParticipantI agree! Burton has a wonderful style when it comes to opening a movie and getting the audience into a mood. I just didn’t like that it was cg. It lacked that tangable quailty that his other movies have. Edward, Beelejuice, Batman and Batman Returns, Ed Wood etc. I prefer when these sequences are filmed using miniatures.
PHIL
ParticipantI recently picked up a copy of the ‘Good Will Hunting” sondtrack in a used cd section of a music store. It has the ‘main titles theme’ and ‘weepy donuts.’ And it has various artist featured on the album. I thought the cd was a good buy, and there is some great songs on there. I recently posted about hearing ‘Weepy Donuts’ appearing in various films in recent years. Look up ‘Weepy Donuts Cameo.’
I don’t recal how many cues Mr. Elfman provided for the film. What’s on the CD is most of what I remember from watching the film. I love the feelings in envokes. It reminds me of Fall. Another cd that envokes this essence is ‘The Straight Story’ score by Angelo Badalmenti.
PHIL
Participant‘Born in east LA’ (ala)…Cheech Marin “Born in East LA.”
PHIL
ParticipantI was wrong! The cue I was speaking of earlier occurs when Edward is walking out of Jims house after the police disable the alarm system. For those of you checking by DVD it is the “drop your weapon” scene selection. Basically while he walks out the front door and down the side walk.
Got to love scene selection!
