KeymasterAnd it was announced…

Looks like score + bonus tracks (minus the Tom Jones track) runs 68:29.
The OST + tracks from the Elfbox totalled around 51:19 (not including the synth demos.)
“Introduction (Titles)” also appears to include the FOX logo music. Nice!

Emotionally rich, grand Danny Elfman soundtrack for famed 1990 Tim Burton fantasy romance with dark overtones finally gets expanded treatment! Johnny Depp plays Edward in nervous, moving fashion, Vincent Price wraps his own legendary career as The Inventor, Winona Ryder plays beautiful romantic lead Kim Boggs, Kathy Baker enacts comic neighbor Joyce. Tale is by turns spellbinding and eccentric, haunting and romantic. Danny Elfman tackles multiple musical challenges by covering every base: ideas are tuneful, melodic, quirky, exciting, inventive, powerful, grand, intimate – and ultimately haunting. Main theme alternates between major harmonies, minor ones as upwards-leaning melody unfolds in gently yearning fashion. With gentle arpeggio figures, transparent orchestrations, boys choir in the mix, this theme remains one of Elfman’s most heartfelt and endearing. Even in its most passioned, sweeping orchestral/choral perorations, this theme remains tender and romantic, colored with a tinge of tragedy. Beautiful writing! Numerous thematic ideas cover all those other bases, from comic hair-cut scenes to dramatic chase scenes, from wistful nostalgic overtones to crescendoing scares. Yet no matter how far out Burton and Elfman take things, incredibly haunting love story kindles all other elements throughout. Expanded edition available courtesy UMG & 20th Century Fox. Production by Nick Redman, audio restoration, assembly by Mike Matessino & Neil Bulk, detailed notes by Jeff Bond, package design by Joe Sikoryak. Absolutely winning score! Danny Elfman composes, Shirley Walker conducts orchestra, adult choir, Paulist Choristers Of California. CD available as part of Intrada INT series!

KeymasterHope you get to see the concert afterall and that the current situation in Brussels, France and Europe in general is settled. We need our music for diversion!

KeymasterIt’s hard to complain when Danny’s career is as diverse as it is today.
BIG EYES was a missed opportunity, but the film got the score it deserved, even if it doesn’t register as much in the film or on disc.
Despite his lukewarm output recently, I’d rather see ANY Burton pic than most anything else.

KeymasterThis score is growing on me. Love the little WOLF MAN nods in “Slappy”, and Elfman is at his most Williams-y in “Mantis Chase”!

KeymasterYikes. That would be something. Since I was in Los Angeles last year for the Elfman concert, it’s hard to justify being there again… Of course, it could become a tradition…

KeymasterI watched AGE OF ULTRON this weekend. Maybe I’m getting old, but can anyone explain to me what was happening in this film? HAHA.
The score as heard in the film is a total disappointment. I recently downgraded my surround system to a soundbar for space and I could barely hear the music in any of the major actions sequences… What a mess.
Ryan Keaveney
KeymasterGot mine too — yes, limited to 1000 copies. Digipack. Nice little score if you like ambient Elfman.

KeymasterHaha – good advice, and DannyBiker, vinyl is only for Danny’s most dedicated fans…

Keymaster+1 for Apple Music. Listening now.
I’ve got the CD on pre-order, but I don’t think it ships until the end of August.

KeymasterYes, this hasn’t been released in any form — would have been a nice addition to the Burton box!

KeymasterMaybe recording TULIP FEVER?

KeymasterI watched the DC some months ago. I hadn’t seen the film since buying the new release DVD in 2004, so we’re talking a decade-long absence.
The DC does take considerably longer to get moving, but doesn’t really solve issues with the theatrical release. I always assumed something was missing when we cut to Dekker staggering through traffic on a highway — the transition from the previous scene always seemed clunky. Sure enough the DC cut unfolds almost the same way.
The reuse of music is troubling as well, as is a missed opportunity. I suppose it was a budgetary decision not to go back and locate the original stems of the score, giving the filmmakers the opportunity to peel back orchestral layers to give them more to work with.
Considering the financial failure of the pic and it’s overall just being a “fine” movie, the DC is more than anyone could ask for.

KeymasterI will put this in with my Elfman discs, but I have a ton of Tyler ones too.

KeymasterGot my copy of the CD today and I’m having a hell of a time ripping it in iTunes. Lots of digital skips and snags. Bummer.
