KeymasterWow, nicely done. “Ghost In Love” was gorgeous.

KeymasterOne of cinema’s longest torture scenes!

Though I would have kicked it into slo-mo when Barber’s “Adagio” comes in.

KeymasterStrangely enough I received an e-mail from someone telling me this was the case a few hours ago. I need to reload this forum more often. AHAHA.

KeymasterThat’s a good question. Not that I’m aware of!

KeymasterI’m not a fan of the pop drum beat that are in those Kunzel/Pops arrangements, including “Molossus”. I prefer to the original OST recording, synth or not. You might like to check out Dario Marianelli’s V FOR VENDETTA, which must have been temped with “Molossus” during the climax, as you can hear it in “Knives and Bulletts (and Canons Too)” 3:50 into the track to 4:35.

KeymasterLet me lay this to rest.
A gent on the FILMUS-L discussion list had the tracks. I e-mailed him to see if he’d send them to me so I could listen to them.
None of them are even remotely Danny Elfman.
The first cue is a re-recording (possibly synth) of “Master Alarm” from James Horner’s APOLLO 13 score, and the others are mostly sound effects-like loops and atmospherics. There are no Elfman signatures, nothing to indicate that he wrote the music.

KeymasterWell, I see your point, but the realities of the music business is that actual talent is never the major factor in launching a music career, instead, it’s opportunity. For thousands of talented vocalists in the United States who do not live in major urban centers or access to record labels A&R people, American Idol represents a truly legitimate shot at showcasing ability.
The entertainment industry is dictated by the tastes of a few, rife with nepotism and favors. American Idol cuts all of that crap out of the process. No one, regardless of financial, ethnic or religious background can make their way through the competition without earning their way or appealing to the masses. For once it doesn’t matter that your Dad is a lawyer for the head of a music label. The fact that you are a talent-free asswipe doesn’t apply to people whose families get them into the business. Now, a nobody can walk off the street, sing and actually get somewhere. That’s pretty goddamned cool if you ask me.

KeymasterSpider-Fan, you are right. There was indeed a post stating that back in March. Wonder who “ricksolo” is. How many “Rick”s do we know of?

KeymasterIf there is a way to redesign the forum without losing the msgs I would consider it. What I suggest is posting a new msg with a link to the previous thread for now.
Or you can just repost the same topic. It’s happened before on this board

KeymasterWell, it was actually supposed to be in 2005! Unfortunately I don’t get paid to do this site, and I don’t have a relationship with the composer or his rep (although I have tried – I won’t break into a whine here), so it gets bumped right down to the bottom of the Pile of Priorities. I have been working on other website projects – redesigning Brian Tyler’s site, new sites for Trevor Morris, Corey A. Jackson, Jeff Cardoni, Nathan Furst, and Miho Nomura. These sites are a much needed source of income (I am trying to get another film job, but they’re like infrequent buses). The Elfman site is merely a hobby.
Thanks for asking though. Progress is slow, but I hope to get there by the end of summer.

KeymasterInsanity, Grey Matter, Private Life, Dead Man’s Party, When The Lights Go Out… If you don’t have the FAREWELL DVD, I suggest you get it. Amazing stuff!

KeymasterI always thought “Doc Ock Is Born” was from the scene where Octavius demos his machine for the press and investors, the scene where he is truly “born”, realizing he is responsible for his wife’s death.
If it was written for the operating room sequence, then I agree that dropping the music worked better.

KeymasterThere is only the MCA original soundtrack. The other one is a rip from the isolated score track on the DVD. It is not a legitimate release.

Thanks for the link. The brass is like RIGHT there in the RIGHT speaker! Ahaha. That is, of course, “Movement I: Pianos”.

KeymasterPhil, I have an M-Audio Keystation 49e. It’s not 88 keys, but it works for my miminal musical talents. I use it with GarageBand and it gives me no trouble. I’ve connected it to my PC, but trying to make music on a PC isn’t worth the aggrivation.

KeymasterWow, a nice score by Anton Pantzer. It reminded me of the rural folk theme from THE GIFT by Chris Young and Elfman’s BIG FISH.
Best of luck with your film, Hoku.
