ParticipantYes indeed, I was using the track from the official album and had to make some edits here and there.
Reading the first pages of this thread brings a lot of memories…DannyBiker
ParticipantI think that the reuse of electronic stuff from Reveng of SM1 during the beginning of the fight isn’t that great and needed indeed to be reworked somehow. However, everything after that is just miles ahead of Young’s proposition. But I agree that what we got is not the worst that happened with that score, by far.
Great video though, much better than the one I did…like man, more than 10 years ago already.

ParticipantWith such an empty schedule ahead of him in terms of films (Alice and Tulip are done for him I guess), I just hope he’s not sick or something.
Yes, 2016 has made me paranoid.DannyBiker
ParticipantI’m not happy about it either. Elfman does seem to turn into a brand/team to some extent, something I don’t think he would have liked a few years back.
I do have the feeling he’s every year less interested in film music which could explain why he’ll just now focus on what he likes about it and leave the rest to others (he’s getting older after all). Because he didn’t write that much scores in the last 3 years, at least big ones, and it’s not like the Elfman-Burton project is a 100 dates tour…I don’t think scheduling conflicts can explain everything*.
Again, he may have reached an age where working 12h a day for 8 weeks several times a year isn’t his cup of tea anymore.

ParticipantWell, he was a member of the jury when Burton was president…
DannyBiker
ParticipantWell, there won’t be any conflict if Peregrine is done in early 2016 like you implied…

ParticipantI know that films can be completed way before their release date but in this case, we just don’t know where’s the production’s at. It was probably pushed back to December 2016 because it fits the season better but there wasn’t an official statement about it nor any kind of rumour. It’s just weird.
Anyway, if Elfman isn’t really doing it, I’m rooting for Desplat.

ParticipantWith the film still being a year away, this feels like a decision and not a schedule issue. Unless there are major unannounced projects for Elfman at that time.

ParticipantThanks for the support Ryan.
To be more specific about the cancellation : it’s actually Elfman who decided not to come, following the recommendations of the US government about travelling to Brussels in this troubled period. I can perfectly understand that.November 25, 2015 at 4:28 pm in reply to: ……Is anyone else hoping Danny takes a Burton break? #59808DannyBiker
ParticipantI think you’re all pretty harsh with Big Eyes. I think its main flaw is that it sounds way too much like his Van Sant/independant movie scores but that’s a valid point from a fan perspective. On its own, the score works very well with the film.

ParticipantI think you’re giving critics and people from the internet’s opinions way too much credit. Yes, there’s a Burton/Depp/Bonham Carter/Elfman circlejerk but they are propagated by people who don’t have anything smarter to say, really. Sure, Burton’s films are not as powerful as they used to be they are still welcomed positively where I live (France/Belgium), including the critics.
I still don’t understand the hate towards Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (it’s a fun movie), Alice wasn’t good but not completely terrible. Frankenweenie and Big Eyes were not as great as we’d expected but they’re still good movies.Yes, Burton is always doing the same film or working around the same themes but that’s how he is. With a few exceptions, Scorcese or De Palma have been making the same films for 40 years. When it works, everybody loves it. When it doesn’t, it’s the “he’s just getting repetitive” routine.
And Burton hasn’t transmitted that so-called creative disease to Elfman; Elfman’s career has never been so exciting actually.
Pay attention not to transform opinions in facts.
Also, Burton has nothing to do with the next Alice movie, beside a producer credit.

ParticipantI wonder if Elfman and Cage worked together at some level. I really like the turn he’s giving to his career.

ParticipantYes, I’ve got quite a few bootleg tracks from their Mystic Knights/early-Oingo Boingo era that were circulating on P2P networks back in the early 2000. I really don’t think it’s easy to find them any more. Proper releases of their work is long over due.
DannyBiker
ParticipantHow about remastering the albums ?
DannyBiker
ParticipantThanks. Got letters for you guys : IDM.
DannyBiker
ParticipantAny way to vod this for non-US residents ?

ParticipantI don’t think he has fond memories of Spider-Man 2 or Dick Tracy…
Anyway, I don’t recall him criticizing films themselves but the scoring process. After all, it’s not his job and he generally gets involved at a point of the production where he can get a pretty good idea of what he’s getting into.- AuthorPosts
