What a strange choice of illustration…
DannyBikerParticipantAs everyone expected. Could very well become the worst rottentomatoes score for Elfman, right ?
DannyBikerParticipantThis continues the great trend of Elfman coming up with themes in means of transport.
January 3, 2020 at 10:15 am in reply to: How would you rate Elfman's overall output in 2010s? #99093DannyBikerParticipantThat was definitely a decade of cursed movie projects and plain bad ones. Although I respect his work on more intimate/small projects (really liked Tulip’s Fever and The Unknown Known), I’m not much into his electronic work. I do like electronic music in general by the way but his sound there does not click for me.
At this stage of his career and with the current state of film music in Hollywood, I think he has probably only one or two opportunities left to write a popular score to a successful movie. Especially since Tim Burton will properly struggle to pick up projects seeing his latest efforts results, both artistically and financially. And not to mention Sam Raimi who pretty much stopped directing for the moment.
And of course, there is the concert music which I guess will only take more and more place in his schedule anyway. Which is great because it’s always fascinating music to listen to.
So, all in all, it was more of a transition decade to what will probably be the last phase of his career. Hard to compare it with the others. Quite interestingly (and to some extent), it’s closer to his early years in film music than anything else.
DannyBikerParticipantI guess the cat is out of the bag. @coachella 2020!

So his film music will be part of it somehow ? Weird but exciting !
DannyBikerParticipantHow did he react to your Dolores Claiborne comment ? 🙂
Next time, just go “I love Spider-Man 2” and run.
DannyBikerParticipantI always had a bad feeling on these because they feel like a cash grab using successful people’s names. But I would like if I would say I’m not interested…
DannyBikerParticipantDude…duuuuude…this is huge. I’ve done some very light editing on Wikipedia in the past and boy, can I imagine your pain handling the tables.
I will review the pages but will also help enriching them in the future for upcoming work and releases.
Thank you !
September 16, 2019 at 9:32 am in reply to: Elfman week-end at Paris Philarmonic (Sept. 19) with potential new concert work #99035DannyBikerParticipantFantastic concert indeed last night. The concerto was spectacular and while I haven’t heard much of the film suites since their London premiere, they were some differences in Batman for sure indeed. The Alice’s Theme felt also a bit more precise than the one from the “Cine-music” concert from Saturday. I was quite impressed by the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra and it was quite funny to go to Paris to see an orchestra from my hometown playing. A lot of musicians were staying at my hotel as well, lol.
Really a fantastic experience and you could really see that Danny was enjoying every second of it, especially the applause. I’ve put some pictures and a video on my instagram…
September 15, 2019 at 1:26 pm in reply to: Elfman week-end at Paris Philarmonic (Sept. 19) with potential new concert work #99033DannyBikerParticipantI asked the before last question, about how his writing process for concert commissions is different from for film scores to which he answered that it was basically being able to write without a leash.
Very nice evening indeed although I would have hoped more questions about this concert works, rather than “How did you come up with the Spider-Man theme?” or “Will you work again with Guillermo Del Toro?”. Oh well.
The piano quartet was splendid, especially the last movement that was played a second time as an encore. It was funny to watch Danny recording the encore from the side of the stage, even selfying a few times.
Fun fact : I was apparently staying at the same hotel then John Mauceri that I saw in the lobby, going back to my room.
Can’t wait for tonight…
September 13, 2019 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Elfman week-end at Paris Philarmonic (Sept. 19) with potential new concert work #99028DannyBikerParticipantI’ll be there.
Indeed I forgot about that some original piece was announced. I was kind of surprised by Mozart too but I guess unknown composers deserve their break too…🙂
DannyBikerParticipantNice. I still wonder how it leaked online more than a year before this release.
Ordering.
DannyBikerParticipantFrom an old AOL chat session :
Question: *Really* stupid question. Are you an atheist?
DElfmn: Absolutely not. I believe in Dog.DannyBikerParticipantWe can’t be 100% sure it’s always him, he probably have someone that can pick it up if needed but he mentioned in many interviews recently that he just got into social medias after years of reluctance to do so; it’s even reminded again at the end of those interviews or podcasts as if it was part of the deal to mention them several times.
So that’s definitely him most of time; you can make some of that stuff up anyway !
DannyBikerParticipantSaw a few mentions of this in my Google feed, I wonder if Elfman is still attached.
July 16, 2019 at 7:20 pm in reply to: Who did what? A comprehensive (?) list of contributers. #98988DannyBikerParticipantNooo, not Soaring Suite.
Anyway, I always love those kind of details ddddeeee, thank you…
DannyBikerParticipantNice to see a section with some unreleased music and old articles…
DannyBikerParticipantOne of my favorite is a full foreshadowing quote of the Edward Scissorhands theme in Attack of the Batwing.
DannyBikerParticipantAhah, indeed, read that too quickly and that weird memory I have of Del Toro not being happy with the results did the rest…
DannyBikerParticipantLast Elfman post on Instagram sounds like he never understood why Del Toro never called him back to do another film. Wasn’t there some rumours that Del Toro wasn’t fond of Elfman’s work on Hellboy II ?
DannyBikerParticipantHe also shares the same content on Facebook. Funny to see him doing that, I’d never thought he’d get into it. Not that many composers from his generation are…
DannyBikerParticipantI indeed like that, like his main Charlie & The Chocolate Factory theme, the Dumbo’s theme seem to never end the same way; it’s a very versatile melody that can go in any direction and that’s where you see how a better composer he has become with years.
I don’t plan to see the film in theatres though, I’ll wait for the blu-ray release. It’s bombing quite hard in the US, Burton can’t really pull off a hit since Alice…
April 5, 2019 at 9:09 am in reply to: Sony Classical Releasing 'Eleven-Eleven' and Piano Quartet #98910DannyBikerParticipantSo many people wanting an Oingo Boingo reunion in these Facebook comments lol. However, I think they could make an easy buck with a remaster of the Boingo albums, in a boxset for instance. Their discography is not even well represented on streaming services…
April 2, 2019 at 7:18 am in reply to: Sony Classical Releasing 'Eleven-Eleven' and Piano Quartet #98907DannyBikerParticipantYes, he has a proper Facebook and Instagram page indeed, it’s nice. I doubt he’s behind it actively, probably just validates the content on occasion but who knows.
If he needs an official website, we can just link him this place… 😛
DannyBikerParticipantI still have to give it more listens but the beginning of the album presentation is stellar. It’s just one great track after the next, each in its own style. I don’t look forward to Burton’s films anymore but his work always allows Elfman do to something special.
