That’s pretty sweet. I did miss Betrami’s Hellboy theme, though I am more satisfied with The Golden Army score than I am with Wanted as a whole.

It’s funny how history repeats itself. There is some crazy rumor spreading around that Cher is wanted to play Catwoman in the next Film. Boy, It’s 1989-90 all over again. “I wonder if Robin Williams is going to be the Riddler again?”

Awww, Tim’s ramblings are what make his commentaries fun. If you can understand what He is actually trying to say, then you belong to an elite group, because everybody else will lose patience and turn him off. It takes the truly dedicated to listen all the way through.

I have been saying Jack for the Cheshire Cat for Years. In a slightly related issue, Michael Keaton was just cast as the voice of Ken (as in Barbie and Ken) For Toy Story 3. I still think It would be sweet for Michael to Play the March Hare. Oh well. We shall see what we shall see.

I would rather see David Tennant as the Riddler.

Another bit of casting I would absolutely love is if they got Christopher Lee to play Humpty Dumpty, even though that is in Through the Looking Glass. I know that sounds weird but His voice would work extremely well for the character and it would be more unexpected than to have him play an obviously dark character.

Last I heard, Joe Johnston was directing the Wolfman, but that could have changed. Johnston usually works with James Horner, although his recent films were scored by Mark Isham(October Sky), Don Davis(Jurassic Park III utilizing John Williams’ themes), and James Newton Howard(Hidalgo). I’m not sure if He has directed anything since Hidalgo, but If He’s doing the Wolfman I’m interested, and now that Danny is involved I’m doubly Interested.

I don’t think Danny refuses to work with Jackson again, I think Jackson picks composers based on the film He is making. When He made the Frighteners he stated that the only composer He could think of for the project’s tone was Danny Elfman. Danny himself said that it was a great experience working with Jackson and Jackson said he loved working with Danny, so if Jackson decides to do another Horror Comedy I bet he will call on our hero yet again.

Darkman is probably one of my favorite Danny Elfman scores after Batman. I agree that it needs to be re-released. Forty minutes just isn’t enough. I want to play “Rage/Peppy Science” over and over and over.
When I listen to Darkman I sit there and imagaine what Danny Would have done for Two-Face in the Batman franchise. Heck, If Raimi had been able to do Batman Forever, We may have found out. We probably wouldn’t have gotten Spider-Man though, That might have been a good thing considering the rift Spider-man 2 caused between Danny and Sammy.

I don’t see any mention of an isolated score, but It could be that Elfman’s commentary will be separate from the other’s and feature the score, oh please oh please oh please.

Disney is pretty stingy about that though, Oh well.

I am definitely looking forward to this one.

Wow. That was even more fun than the John Wayne video bit, which was better than the Hulk Hogan sequence from the film. The Gremlins sabotaging the Batmobile makes even more sense than what actually happened in Batman Returns. The Penguin finding a schematic of the Batmobile? But that is the Gremlins M.O. in the first place. On a side note, Did you know that the concept of the Gremlins was originally conceived by Roald Dahl for a scrapped Disney animated film from the 1940’s? I’m not sure if He used any particular folk-lore or just completely made it up, but Warner Brothers ended up using the concept for a Bugs Bunny cartoon called “Falling Hare” directed by my animation hero, Bob Clampett.

At the moment I am more anxious for a re-release of the score in an expanded 2-disc edition. It would be nice to see it again on the big screen, but I don’t really see it happening, what with the current films and all.

When listening to the album, the cut titled “A Little Push” is more Herrmann-esque than “Why So Serious?’. Just listen to the brass. It is reminiscent of the Brobdignag segments of “the Three Worlds of Gulliver”. That cue, as far as I can tell, was written by Howard and tweaked by Zimmer and Mel Wesson. it’s a pity Howard wasn’t able to write these scores solo, or worked with Danny to bring his themes into a more suitable sound for these particular films, More urban and less operatic(although I’m more interested in Danny’s operatics). I doubt Danny would have participated anyway. The only reason He did the first two was because of Tim.

Do you know if they are going to use any of the other music from the films like Elfman’s themes for Joker, Penguin, and Catwoman? That would be sweet. I would even be all right with them using Goldenthal’s theme for Two-Face considering this is not going to be a deeply serious game.

I was nine when Batman `89 came out . That opening theme just knocked my socks off and I haven’t been the same since. Up to that point the only two composers I was aware of were John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. To this day I consider those two and Elfman as being the top three composers ever.
Sadly Jerry is no longer with us and John lost his spark but Danny’s alive and kickin’!!

Gregson-Williams quickly sunk on my composer list after his excellent collaborations with John Powell.
His scores for the Shrek sequels were flat and uninteresting and his scores for the two Narnia films were dull.

If John Powell was scoring Wolverine I’d be excited. His score for X-Men the Last Stand was the best part of the movie and one of two non-Elfman comic book scores that I’m crazy about. (the other being Marco Beltrami’s score for Hellboy).

I knew Bates was attached to Watchmen and it went without saying that Silvestri was doing G.I. Joe although that is one property that needs the “Hans Zimmer and his Ghost Writers” touch. I can’t think of a better recipient for bombastic power ballads than Joe.

I would have said “the Spirit” until I saw the new trailer for it. They should be calling that “Frank Miller’s Will Eisner’s the Spirit”. Yeeesh!!

It would never happen, but I’ve always wondered what an Elfman scored Star Trek would be like. The music wouldn’t be dull like the most recent entries and also might just add the spark that has been missing from the franchise since, well, forever.

To be perfectly honest the only upcoming movies I’m aware of are franchise type movies like Wolverine and G.I. Joe as well as the Watchmen and I can’t see him doing any of those nor do I want him to. Of the three Watchmen is the one I a, anxious for. We’ve already had three Wolverine movies and Joe is being directed by Stephen “Van Helsing” Sommers. Double Yeeesh!!

I love the idea of Danny as the Cheshire Cat! The only other person I could see as the Cat would be Jack Nicholson, but he probably wouldn’t do it. When I heard Depp was playing the Mad Hatter I was a little disappointed, like some of you were, but then I thought, what if Michael Keaton played the March Hare? You’d have Keaton and Depp in the same scene playing off eeach other. That would be awesome!

Interesting. Too bad it isn’t an expanded score from the actual film. Flyleaf piqued my interest though. My sister really likes that band. she played it for me in the car once, and the scream singing actually caused me to nod off I found it so soothing. I know, I’m weird. I wasn’t the one drinving by the way.

I’m even wondering if all that talk about Danny’s “jolly theme” was a dodge. After all Zimmer said he didn’t have a Batman theme. Then he said he did. I also vaguely remember something about Nolan saying He liked Danny’s theme and wantd to use it. That was quite a while ago, before Batman Begins came out, and I could have been imagining it too. Anyway if I’m right, we might hear even more of it in the next film. I’m not holding my breath though.

Hi there. I have been a huge fan of Danny Elfman for a long time and have been a fan of this site for a while. I finally got up the nerve to register and add my voice this very distinctive and much more knowledgeable crowd than myself.

Anyway on to the topic at hand. I have recently picked up a copy of the Dark Knight soundtrack and thought it was pretty good although I wasn’t terribly impressed with Zimmer’s “one note Joker theme”.

I did notice something very interesting at the beginning of the track called “I’m Not a Hero”.
At about ten seconds in there is a very familiar melody that is played with a few alterations and is really subtle. I didn’t really notice it until about the third listen.

Yes, That is Danny’s Batman theme although I don’t think they did it on purpose. It sounds really cool played by a cello I might add.

Danny”s score for the first Batman is still the best Batman soundtrack and is the reason I am a huge Elfman fan. I do have to admit I like this new CD more than I thought I would, of course the best piece on there is by James Newton Howard.
