I would guess that since Little Girls wasn’t on the announced song list that it might be for the XBox version and not the PS2 one. They changed a bunch of the songs around for GH2 between the two platforms, so I wouldn’t be surprised. Though it could be a song you can buy from the shop in the game :)

    can you tell i play this game a lot? i can’t wait until i get GH80’s and GH3 :)

I’ve never come across any – but the steve bartek website forum has a lot of tabs that have been submitted by the message board members, so you can check that out:

as much as i would love to see elfman’s take on the hobbit material, i’m pretty partial to howard shore’s score for the first three. he did such a wonderful job with the different themes. with someone else’s vision of the book/script, it would be nice to see some continuity.

how much did the last one wind up going for? and how satisfying could it possibly be? those things are so compressed, you can hardly tell what they are,. that and they’re pretty much stuck on your phone until you drop it in a puddle and then there go the bragging rights, too.

i’m all for charity, but wouldn’t a signed copy of a score be a much better donation generator?

I’m hoping the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra will do a few Elfman pieces. I saw them early last year and while they were still working out a few kinks, it was an incresible night. They do nothing but film music and had an impressive selection, including John William’s Memoirs of a Geisha score. They even capped off the evening by performing the score to Antony and Cleopatra live along to parts of the film with actors (including Basil Expedition) reading bits of dialogue. If you live in the LA area, I highly recommend checking them out.

unfortunately, i highly doubt that would happen. my guess is that he’ll go onstage to introduce the piece, then join the rest of the artists backstage to enjoy the rest of the show, which will likely be followed by an exclusive after-party (perhaps on sunday) that’s closed to anyone but VIPs. but one can’t hold out all hope! :) i’m bringing my binoculars (i opted for cheap seats as i’m a destitute graduate student) and my digital camera.

lucius – what night are you going?

p.s. anyone know if photography isn’t allowed at the bowl?

yeah – if steve thinks that the music made the movie funnier and before that he couldn’t tell… well, i guess what do you expect of a psuedo blues brothers rip off that uses mexican wrestling instead of rockin’ music and carrie fischer with a rocket launcher to raise money for an orphanage.

it’s still not gonna stop me from going to see it, of course :)

here’s a bit of a review i found of it so far from Fred Stesney at slashfilm.com (http://www.slashfilm.com/article.php/2006051520243769)

“Yet there’s something about the movie, like presence of Black, that promises faster-paced comedy and it’s frustrating when the gags don’t arrive with enough frequency. It’s like Hess doesn’t want you to laugh at his movie, he wants you to quote it. I like cult comedies as much as the next hipster, but there must be comedy.

I don’t get this movie, and I’m sure that some people will declare it the comedy of the year. Either way, it’s directed with an original vision, and that’s so rare these days that, even if Nacho Libre isn’t phenomenal, it’s still worth seeing.”

I haven’t heard any of it, but this is what Steve had to say about it over on his forum:

“the nacho libre score was very fun – mostly ethnic guitars percussion accordion and harmonica with an occassional pan pipe tooting wit orchestra sweetning for drama.george deoring and dean parks and a guy named fredrico did the guitars and the famous tommy morgan did the harmonica and bass harmonica. so i hope it pleases . hard to tel about the film but Danny’s music certainly made it funnier steve”

There is a full copy of Family Dog available on YouTube for those who haven’t seen it before:

act quick, cuz i’m sure it’s copyright infringement, but it’s there in full in three parts.

the music is distinctly elfman and the animation is distinctly brad bird (the incredibles). it was even more enjoyable seeing it again as an adult (as i saw it the first time as a kid).

    enjoy!

no wonder he keeps getting shit on when it comes to oscar season. one of the more recent installments of soundtrack.net’s podcasts by dan goldwasser (on feb 1st) is particularly funny since he’s talking about the oscar nominations. at the end he goes off on a tangent expressed bewilderment and outrage that none of danny’s songs were nominated this year. you should check it out if you haven’t already :)

does anyone know if this was announced anywhere other than on soundtrack.net? i just want to have an idea how long beforehand i should be sitting outside on the sidewalk. i tried to find it on the LA times site, the Hollywood Reporter or even on the Tim Burton Collective site, and i can’t find hide nor hair of it.

and yes, i just used “hide nor hair” in a sentence.

anyway – i’ll be there regardless with my digicam, so i’ll post pics as soon as i get back and put a link to it here.

It’s up and running now (along with all the other features). Too bad it’s only a 3 minute clip. There are some things on the podcast that aren’t on the DVD feature, though, which is great to see (I just got my copy of the DVD in the mail this afternoon, so I’m watching all the extras now).
