KeymasterHas to be some kind of tragedy that this piece was never used as a main title.

KeymasterIt’s in my Top 10 favorite Elfman scores, for sure. I wrote a review of the LLL expanded issue but haven’t published it yet… No time

KeymasterI had not heard that, though it would have been an improvement over J Peter Robinson’s servicable score.

KeymasterI want to go there.

KeymasterThe track “Escape” is pretty fantastic. A bit of Williams mixed in there. Yes, there are moments of John Powell too — but to me this sounds more like an adventure-oriented variation of CHARLOTTE’S WEB.

KeymasterThanks for sharing this!

KeymasterElfman mentioned in a recent interview that he’s working on suites for a concert… Not sure if this was a reference to the UK concert or another one.

KeymasterWhere’s mine?

KeymasterBookbinder, nice to see someone saw that parallel between OZ and AOD. Clearly the preparation montage, hero from another time, etc. Sorry, don’t want to put up any spoilers!
Noticed the main titles were mixed different in the film — not just the narrow stereo field (for obvious reasons), but the first 15 seconds.
The score is OMNIPRESENT. A few unreleased cues I’d like to hear (China Girl scurrying to the Emerald City for one.)
I really enjoyed the film, and would like to go back to these characters and place. It’s nice to see a good fantasy pic that’s got scares, laughs and a bit of offkilter charm. I’m so tired of cynical Michael Bay shit.

KeymasterSam’s the best.

KeymasterIf you download Disney’s OZ app there’s plenty of continous Elfman score playing in the background.
The score is excellent

Ryan Keaveney
KeymasterNo idea. Maybe he’s referencing RV Williams’ THE 49TH PARALLEL, which also did the same thing?

KeymasterSo nice of Danny Elfman to quote “O Canada” in the main titles for OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL. My fandom has paid off

I wish I could, unfortunately a trip from Toronto to London is hardly an inexpensive jaunt

KeymasterWell it’s that time of year again, when I begin exploring finally updating the site and getting the ball rolling on regular content.
I’ve decided to make this site a free-time priority in 2013. We’re living in a different world than we were in 1995-96 when this site was started, but I hope MFADP can still be relevant.
One thing that I’ve discovered, unfortunately, is that I won’t be able to port this message board content into an upgraded board format. The database is just not compatible with Buddypress (my preference — so that I can integrate users & interaction throughout the site), and no amount of conversion seems to be doing the trick. If anyone here is a SQL whiz and knows how to take a Phorum DB to PHPBB to another format and out to Buddypress, please let me know.
On a related note, there is tons of hidden spam on this board from a few years ago, so removing that kept me busy last week!
You’ll soon be able to find the site easier, as well, with the first top-level domain in MFADP history. More on that soon

ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK OF “HITCHCOCK”
WITH MUSIC BY DANNY ELFMAN AVAILABLE DECEMBER 4, 2012Fox Searchlight Pictures Releases HITCHCOCK in select theatres November 23, 2012
Sony Music is proud to announce the release of Danny Elfman’s Original Motion Picture Soundtrack recording of HITCHCOCK on December 4, 2012. The film is a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock, and his wife and partner Alma Reville. It takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie PSYCHO, widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made and the subject of Stephen Rebello’s highly praised book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, on which the film HITCHCOCK is based. HITCHCOCK opens in select theatres November 23.
Director Sacha Gervasi has brought together a brilliant group of actors, including Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins in the role of Alfred Hitchcock, Academy Award winner Helen Mirren as his wife Alma Reville, Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Toni Collette as Hitchcock’s assistant Peggy Robertson, and for the actors who took the lead roles in PSYCHO, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles and James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins. This is the directorial debut in a feature film for the multi-talented screenwriter, journalist and director Gervasi, who is known for his Independent Spirit Award-winning documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil about the Canadian heavy metal band (The Times: “possibly the greatest film yet made about rock and roll”), and also as the screenwriter of Steven Spielberg’s THE TERMINAL.
The soundtrack is by Danny Elfman, four-time Oscar® nominee who has established himself as one of the most versatile and accomplished film composers in the industry. He has collaborated with such directors as Tim Burton, Gus Van Sant, Sam Raimi, Paul Haggis, Ang Lee, Rob Marshall, Guillermo del Toro, Brian De Palma, Peter Jackson and David O. Russell. Beginning with his first score on Tim Burton’s PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, Elfman has scored a broad range of films, including: MILK (Oscar nominated), GOOD WILL HUNTING (Oscar nominated), BIG FISH (Oscar nominated), MEN IN BLACK (Oscar nominated), EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, WANTED, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, PLANET OF THE APES, A SIMPLE PLAN, TO DIE FOR, SPIDERMAN (1 & 2), BATMAN, DOLORES CLAIBORNE, SOMMERSBY, CHICAGO, DICK TRACY, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Most recently he provided the music for Gus Van Sant’s PROMISED LAND, Tim Burton’s FRANKENWEENIE and David O’ Russell’s SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK. Up next for Elfman is Sam Raimi’s OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL.
The music for the shower scene of PSYCHO, written by Bernard Herrmann, is one of the most famous compositions in movie history. Hitchcock had wanted this scene without music, but was so pleased with the effect of screeching violins, violas, and cellos that he later stated that “33% of the effect of PSYCHO was due to the music.” Herrmann’s original score was adapted by Danny Elfman in 1998 when Gus Van Sant directed a remake – connections that now come full circle with the choice of Elfman as composer for HITCHCOCK. With the release of this soundtrack by Sony Music, fans of the great director Hitchcock and lovers of movie music will be able to enjoy for themselves the quality of Elfman’s work.

KeymasterWow, that’s out of left field! You can hear Danny’s vocals in the opening titles.

KeymasterWas it difficult going through the day with your eyes closed?

KeymasterSweet! Thanks for the heads up.

KeymasterI thought that drum riff sounded familiar!

KeymasterReally love “The Funeral” so far. boingomusic, I think the theme will start to reveal itself the more you listen.
Dammit if that isn’t vintage Elfman, passing around the a melodic phrase to different parts of the orchestra in the stellar last 30 seconds of “Electricity”. Some big choir moments too!
