Hi Haley. I live in Canada as well. I know what you mean about MUSIC FOR A DARKENED THEATER VOL 1 (often refered to as MFADT1 or MFADT2). Back in 1991, when I found out the CD existed I desperately needed it! Unfortunately I couldn’t find it anywhere. This is how sad the world was in 1991, but when my parents went on vacation in the U.S. their first task was to get me a copy of MFADT1. And being the fantastic, supportive parents they are, they found it! Of course, a few years later the internet hit and I could have ordered it in a few minutes… But, it’s these early struggles to get this stuff that made being a fan worthwhile!

The quickest and easiest way to get the CD is at Amazon.com. Click that and it’ll take you straight to the product page.

If you prefer to order within Canada, you can get it at Chapters.ca, the website, not the store!

Hi Alethea – you made it to the board!

If you have RealPlayer you can listen to a lot of the clips on this site.

When the site redesign is finally finished all the audio will be redone as MP3 files. That should be fun…

It was probably cheaper than hiring someone to rewrite the music and record it.

Haha. That was funny. They even got the Abe Lincoln statue in there.

No, it’s not the OST recording. They must have recorded it for the show.

It’s mostly a mix of Don Davis’ HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, Marco Beltrami’s MIMIC and bits of Michael Kamen’s DIE HARD 3(!!!). There’s also one cue in there that I think was written by Jeremy Soule, but it was so long ago that I can’t confirm that. It was on a disc I had of MP3s and I thought it worked (it’s the reveal of the headless bodies, shot in the basement of my family’s cottage…)

Rule No. 1 – never put a video of yourself in a wig on the internet. It will be there forever. Your chances of becoming President of the United States are severely handicapped!

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like it’s a rumor. Gorfaine & Schwartz has posted the info on their website. I’ll make the thread a sticky, but I don’t like the chances of Elfman scoring the picture!

Spider-Fan, you’ll find a lot of good TV is not produced in the United States ;)

I’d like to see Elfman do music for an installation or museum or some sort of science centre where you walk through exibits and are immersed by sights and sounds.

Well it’s all property of Warner Bros., probably specifically the EPK/publicity department at the studio. I think they keep everything in the Warner archive. The likelihood that a person off the street will get access to the material is, sadly, zero.

Well, the video was produced by Warner Home Video, which is part of Warner Bros. Pictures, which owns the film and all that material. Don’t hold your breath while trying to find it.

Well I finished my film program in school and just sent out my measly resume to the production office for EXIT WOUNDS back in 2000. I met the co-ordinator and she was fantastic. The kind of person who was willing to give someone their break. That’s how the film business keeps going. You give people breaks and hope it works out. Or, you hire your kid, your friend’s kid, your lawyer’s kid, etc. That’s how studios keep their executive ranks populated!

Thankfully I have moved up to producer’s assistant. Less physical work, more brains. Although your mind can start to go crazy when you know about every single issue surrounding the production.

I hope he might be involved somehow, but remember that John Debney arranged Elfman’s themes from NIGHTMARE for the remodeling of the Haunted Mansion a few years back. So it’s possible the work will land on someone else’s desk.

I bought that Haunted Mansion CD when I was at Disneyland last year and Debney did a fine job. I just wish the narration was dropped!

Unfortunately I don’t have any behind-the-scenes score video from DARKMAN. Maybe some time when Sam Raimi reaches mega-super-stardom Universal will dust off the elements and put out an SE DVD. DARKMAN is one of my favourite Elfman scores.

Well, sometimes I do. A little current career history:

The last production I’ve worked on was ABC’s 6-hr 9/11 mini-series. It will air this May.

After the 9/11 mini, I was hired by Barry Levinson as his assistant on a picture in late October, unfortunately after three weeks I was “replaced” by a, ahem, young female. In general it’s difficult for guys to get these jobs because often executives, producers, etc. like to have a little minx around to stare at for those long 12 hour plus days. I also recently interviewed to work for another director (Zach Helm, who was in the Vanity Fair Hollywood issue – with the nude Keira on the cover). It came down to myself and one other guy. Having never done the job of assisting a director, and this being Zach’s first film, the job went to my more experienced competition. That’s the way the cookie crumbles. I love the script that Zach wrote and he is such a nice guy that stardom for him is now far off. They called me back weeks later and had me interview to work for an actor on the same film. I essentially had the job, but the actor decided to hire a friend of a friend (that’s how this business works – friends & family) and again, shut out.

Which is why I’ve been spending my time designing three new websites to pay the rent — Trevor Morris (add’tl music for HULK and pretty much every Hans Zimmer score since BLACK HAWK DOWN), Cory A. Jackson (who has worked with Chris Lennertz and scored a few films of his own) and Jeff Cardoni (JUST FRIENDS). I was competing for the Michael Giacchino website job but I work too slowly apparently ;)

    Okay, that’s enough about me!

This was a great movie to work on. Cronenberg is the best. Quick and simple because he knows what he wants and works with the same key creative crew. I don’t know if I am in the behind-the-scenes stuff, but I know the U.S. election ballots I designed are in there. During production in Toronto, the U.S. election (Bush & Kerry) was raging. Viggo Mortensen wanted to hold our own election here. I designed the ballots ;) For those who care, John Kerry won, with like 98% of the vote.

I’ve now seen DEEP SEA 3D and “Serenada” is the spirit behind the score. But there isn’t much direct qouting of the work. There are major sections of “Movement I: Piano” and “Movement V: I Forget (Choral)” in two parts of the film respectively, and the frenetic “Movement IV: Quadruped Patrol” is used for the gigantic squid sequence. Elfman also spins out a great, SPIDER-MAN 2/”Armageddon/A Really Big Web!” (1:12 in)-like motif in the scene exploring the wreck. The score is fantastic, seamless (I couldn’t tell where Elfman started and Lurie ended) and gorgeous. If it doesn’t get a CD release then it will be 2006’s first great musical travesty.

You can subscribe for $4.95 for the month. That’s not a lot! I’d share the Quicktime files, but that is definitely not cool considering they are FSMs and were prepared by Saul Pincus for the site.
