This is all very encouraging. I am certainly down with the idea of contributors – that’s something I’d hoped to have happen years ago! Of course if anyone is interested, and it sounds like some are. I’ll be taking you up on that!

I think once you get a look at what I’ve done with the site in WordPress you’re going to be excited. I’ll also consider my options for the forum. I’d like the system to run a bit faster, but there is a wealth of material here I’d hate to lose (I’m kind of locked into this one format due to the database size and structure.)

    STARTS SHIPPING FEB 14
    RETAIL PRICE $29.98

La-La Land Records, 20th Century Fox and Sony Music present the remastered and expanded version of acclaimed composer Danny Elfman’s (BATMAN, BATMAN RETURNS, MARS ATTACKS!, WANTED, ALICE IN WONDERLAND) thunderous original score to Twentieth Century Fox’s 2001 blockbuster sci-fi adventure PLANET OF THE APES, starring Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter and Michael Clarke Duncan, and directed by Tim Burton. The now legendary pairing of director Tim Burton and Danny Elfman again yields an immensely creative and complex film score that melds orchestra, percussion and electronics to enrich the film’s subtext and characters, all the while propelling its large-scale action. Featuring OVER 212 MINUTES of music, this comprehensive 3-CD SET set is the definitive release of Elfman’s APES score – Discs One and Two contain the film version of the score, with source cues and alternates, while Disc Three features the original 2001 soundtrack album assembly, including the RULE THE PLANET remix by Paul Oakenfold. Produced by Nick Redman, restored by Mike Matessino and edited and mastered by Daniel Hersch at d2 Mastering, this significantly expanded limited edition release of 3500 units also features exclusive liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond.

DannyBiker (yes, your new username – though you may need to login again. Same password, btw) very good points. WordPress obviously takes on a lot of the heavy lifting involved with a site this size. I’m looking forward to a time where I can just dash out an article/update without having to change five files. By the sound of things, the forum seems to be an essential component of the site.

Hi Nat – thanks for that. I definitely want to retain the forum, however I’ve noticed some performance issues since porting it over from the old host (and it wasn’t easy!) I wish it ran faster, and was based on all-round better software. My hope is that with the forum and robust commenting on the site, people will be encouraged more to interact. If I can clear this winter/spring (I move into a new house at the end of May) I hope to dedicate lots of time to the site. Though I usually get inspired when a new Elfman score comes out – say, DARK SHADOWS. We’ll see. But we still need to figure out how to get Google love :)

Thanks so far, DIM and Monsterhead.

The next gen of the site will be WordPress-based. Commenting, sharing, etc. Twitter, Facebook, etc. All easy to do. If I can find the time :)

Interested to hear more. I know there are people reading this board. Let’s hear it!

Pretty sweet :) The 2001 album was a masterful listening experience. Let’s see how it does stretched over two more CDs!

2012 was looking pretty busy, now less so. Thankfully we’re still guaranteed DARK SHADOWS, FRANKENWEENIE and MEN IN BLACK… Right? ;)

I love electronic music, however, I personally think his use of electronic sounds is somewhat heavy-handed. His music sounds tinny and generic. He could do with some tips from Wendy Carlos. Her sounds have nuance and warmth, but that’s another era, I guess. I’m partial to a bit of The Lion King, though, but how much of that did he write himself? I think Mr Elfman is one of the few composers that has successfully blended synthetic sounds with ‘real’ instruments. His samples sound organic. I do agree with what Mr Zimmer said about scores having more prominence, but maybe not in the way he goes about it. I want to scream sometimes when a score is practically inaudible. Some people think that a score shouldn’t call attention to itself, but I totally disagree. Just like the cinematography or costume design of a film, you should notice the music and appreciate it.

Updated and new songs right here.

Many of them are inspired by the Elfman-esque sound!

Well they were never that big. I guess there wasn’t such a demand back then. These days it’s quite different, as you can find sheet music for just about anything. Besides, most ‘rock’ musicians tend to play by ear anyway.

Robots that look like humans? Hm. I was hoping it would be a dark Sci-fi a la Blade Runner, but the trailer looks pants.
