ParticipantElfman actually writes down his music on paper.
Look in Blunt’s site where he has a sheet of a Batman Returns cue done by hand by Elfman.
Danny Burton
ParticipantThanks for all that info, john!
At this point, all I want is that the spirit of Elfman’s music is kept for the Main Titles and for the final swinging scene.
Even the people who don’t like Elfman’s music [namely a handful of trolls over at the superherohype boards] enjoy those two pieces of music, how couldn’t they?
Danny Burton
ParticipantAwesome.
I despise score albums with songs, but if there’s an artist I admire as much as Elfman, that’s Rufus Wainwright.
His new album can come out soon enough!
Danny Burton
ParticipantAnything new regarding this soap opera?
To those of you with the inside scoop :coughRyanjohnmullioncough: how did Steve Bartek’s recordings go?
Danny Burton
ParticipantWait I second, what if I was Elfman himself?!?
Think about it
Danny Burton
ParticipantI just lurk around when I know new trailers, pictures, TV spots, etc come out as I know they’ll be the first ones to get them.
When I first read some of Visionary’s posts, I wanted to register just to lay the smack on him, but I’ve realized it’s useless.
Now, johnmullin, do you happen to know what Elfman thinks of this whole mess?
And more importantly, DOES HE COME TO THIS SITE?
Danny Burton
ParticipantI just saw you over at SuperHeroHype, Kipobe!
Are you willing to pony up cash for some gas? There’s this bus I’m planning to run Visionary over with…
Danny Burton
ParticipantHow the hell are those credits going to look now?
Themes by Danny Elfman, New themes by Christopher Young, Adapted by Steve Bartek?
The only thing I don’t want is another botched copy-paste patchwork like the one did they with the second one. But I know Steve Bartek knows better than that.
Now, this doesn’t surprise me one bit. Sony’s stakes are high on this one, having spent over $250 million without counting the marketing costs, which are supposed to be over $100 million in the US alone, so they are going to keep everyone involved in this on a very tight leash, Raimi included.
No matter what, the film is going to make a truckload of money. Seeing the opening weekends of Ghost Rider, Wild Hogs [ugh] and now 300, I’m sure S-M 3 will break Pirate of the Caribbean 2’s record and will make close [or more] than $150 million in its opening weekend. It will have two weeks all for itself before Shrek 3 comes along, so I’m almost positive this one will match [or surpass] the first film’s $400 million gross.
Danny Burton
ParticipantWill we ever get to hear those new themes?
I’d give my granda for them.
Thanks for the info, john!
Danny Burton
ParticipantThanks a lot for that link, johnmullin! That youtube clip doesn’t do justice to the CGI work in the fight scene. That is absolutely incredible, and it isn’t even finished!
Do you have a link to the 720p version? The NBC page is not working for me.
And I agree that Young’s music is nothing to write home about in that scene. I just want to see how all those Elfman bashers are going to spin it [no pun intended, heh] if Young’s music ends up bombing.
Danny Burton
ParticipantMan, if there’s ever a list of scores to drive a car to, POTA should be at the very top of the list. I mean, try it right now.
Danny Burton
ParticipantThe cover is there already:
Danny Burton
ParticipantWow, that is most definitely Elfman’s music and I LOVE it!

My hopes are high for this one!
Well, excepting that I don’t think Depp has the vocals to pull this off, and Meryl Streep or someone like Annette Bening should’ve been cast instead of La Bonham Carter.

ParticipantTenderLumpling, the last time I saw On Dangerous Ground was about 8 years ago in a ratty VHS tape, so watching it again on the wonderful DVD by WB [those film noir sets are must owns!] was like seeing it for the first time.
I became a film music fan thanks to my love for film and Nicholas Ray has always been one of my favorites ever since I saw Johnny Guitar [when is THAT coming out on DVD??], so I knew ODG because of him and not Herrmann.
And yeah, when that brass started I seriously thought I was listening to some unused cue from PoTA [sans the synth, of course].
Danny Burton
ParticipantI really, REALLY hope this film has the Pixar look and flavor all over it, as opposed to Disney’s [::ChickenLittle:::]
Danny Burton
ParticipantDid they actually play that music during the show or was it just someone who put that together?
Danny Burton
ParticipantOf course they had to nominate Gustavo Hackolalla again for his awful, weepy guitar strums.
Gag me.
Danny Burton
ParticipantWhy do I have the feeling that at some point Young’s score will be rejected and Danny will end up doing the whole thing.
Danny Burton
ParticipantHeh, I actually meant the one used for the Charlotte’s Web logo, or did you just copy/paste it from somewhere?
Thanks again!
Danny Burton
ParticipantGood GOD, why isn’t anyone talking about this??
I mean, the Main Titles alone are some of the best stuff Elfman has EVER done.
I’ve been listening to this non-stop and I have to say that after some serious thought, of the post Mission Impossible Elfman, this is my favorite score of his.
Absolutely gorgeous. It’s Black Beauty, Sommersby and Big Fish all put together.
Danny Burton
ParticipantGotta love those CRAZY! EYES!
LMAO.
Danny Burton
ParticipantHeh, I just didn’t want to say it outright because I know Ryan doesn’t like it and he’ll probably delete the post, but I was talking about emule.
Google it.
Danny Burton
ParticipantAGHH!! iTunes is listing Pete Anthony as the “artist”
Danny Burton
ParticipantI know Ryan won’t like this, but screw Paramount for releasing ONLY ONE track and on top of that with dialogue on it…try this thing that has a nice little mule as its logo. That’s what I did.
