ParticipantIt seems that Ed Wood was the reason…at least that’s what I remember…

ParticipantNot of my knowledge. Have you checked the Batman score analysis ?
DannyBiker
ParticipantIn terms of X-men, nothing ever matched Kamen’s work for me. Powell did write a very energetic and powerful score with some great themes but Kamen explored really interesting territories, sometimes audacious ones.
Ottman’s work was decent but pretty bland and generic as always…My two cents…

ParticipantWe are so different in taste, it’s getting funny. That score was so lame and poorly written, my ears still hurt…
DannyBiker
ParticipantWere drums and a brass section involved ?
DannyBiker
ParticipantOne year from now, really ? Is the film in shooting right now ? Is Burton is directing Frankenweenie on his own ? Am I boring you with my questions ?
DannyBiker
ParticipantHow about songs ? And I want Justin Bieber to write the Spider-Man theme, Lady Gaga the romantic theme and Mika the bad guy theme !

ParticipantWow…I think you should copyright this as “The only way to score a superhero film. Period, you idiots.” So we can all live in your wonderful musical dictatorship.
Not that Danny Elfman’s score was highly experimental either. But in theory, you can score anything any way you want, as long as it works. Reducing a genre to drums and a brass section is the best way to kill any chance left to one day get something fresh and new.
And no, Spider-Man didn’t need a fanfare, it would have been a huge mistake. You have to distinguish “SPIDER-MAN the Stan Lee kick ass superhero that finally comes to the big screen” and “PETER PARKER, the kid who is discovering himself new powers that are a metaphor to adulthood as it is depicted in this particular film called SPIDER-MAN”. I’ll let you imagine which approach Elfman went for…

ParticipantWow, I thought it was released back in January. It will be presented at Cannes this week I think…

ParticipantFor any Elfman fan who can afford it actually.

ParticipantI’ve listened to all the CD’s and it’s a disappointment for me. Beetlejuice and Big Fish are fantastic but pretty much all the other stuff is merely okay. At $500, you can expect better for what is the core of the box : the music. I’m actually hoping LLL Records to make other Elfman expanded scores to get “the real thing”.
Bonus CD are fine if you like listen to 17 different versions of This is Halloween, 10 MOMA cues (who gives a damn about those ??) and 7 different music box cues. MEH !Of course, there’s the book that I’d love to read. But I’m not paying $500 for a book !

ParticipantJe travaille dans un cirque à Bruxelles et je meure d’envie de voir ce spectacle tourner. Malheureusement…
I work in a circus in Brussels and I’m dying to see this tour. Unfortunately…
DannyBiker
ParticipantSo how about the Alice CD with no film version tracks ? It means we are still left with the synth choir in the Proposal/Down the hole cue. At $500, you would think they would have work on those…
DannyBiker
ParticipantWell read the thread back. There was a CD-R story a while back…
Thanks !
DannyBiker
ParticipantAnd is the album at amazon.co.uk a proper edition or a CD-R ? Sorry to ask this but I do remember something about this CD and Amazon UK…
DannyBiker
ParticipantSo, where to purchase the album to get a proper CD and not a CD-R ? I’m in Europe…
DannyBiker
ParticipantWell…I’ll have to look over the internet…you know…it’s a shame, I know.
If only they would have released a “16CDs only” version, I would have bought it. The price was just out-of-reach for me.I’m also curious to read how well the boxes arrived in Europe…
DannyBiker
ParticipantIt’s in production since 1995 lol. I’ll believe it when I see it…
DannyBiker
ParticipantWell, it’s not a demo. It’s only that the choir is not a real one, it’s from a digital library. The rest is the real orchestra and actually what we hear in the film, I’m quite sure.
And yes, I think the film version with the real choir will be included in the box. I even remember Ryan posting that part to show off…
DannyBiker
ParticipantI don’t care much for that integration. Is that theme big in the US ? It didn’t hit Europe for sure (I don’t even think the show had any success here, so it’s completely new to me)…
DannyBiker
ParticipantWill be there if it goes on tour around my area. The last show was performed here in Brussels, so this might be my very first live Elfman music experience…
Me so happy.
DannyBiker
ParticipantThe book is really the only thing I would have loved to get…but 400 € is just out of reach…
