I’d need to watch it again but ‘Irving’s Montage’ is certainly the most substantial piece of score in the movie. For whatever reason I can remember a 30 second or so cue for drums? I think there was also music for a scene between Adams and Bale.

My CD arrived today, I love it.

I know it’s not for everybody but these repetitive, rhythmic scores are what I listen to most from Elfman these days. The Unknown Known was my favorite Elfman since Alice, for example.

I love the theme that emerges later on in the score, it makes up the bulk of ‘Show Me’ (I love the ghostly synths in this one) and Bliss centers around it too. ‘Counting to Six’ manages to bring together pretty much everything Elfman does musically in the entire score, which is quite something. He tells the entire story in the last track too.

I’ll be listening to this one a lot no doubt.

If Amazon sales are any indication this will be the first Elfman score to chart since Alice.

The Next Three Days is one of my favorite of Elfman’s recent scores so that works for me. After seeing the film it’s definitely what it’s closest to. Then Bliss would be The Truth, a huge yet lovely departure from the rest of the score.

Hmm, I liked the movie. It’s slick and surprisingly funny.

The score only really becomes prominent near the end. A lot of tracks don’t appear in the movie at all which I expected but I thought ‘Ana and Christian’ would make an appearance. ‘Bliss’ lives up to its title, highlight of the score in the movie.

Real Steel only really stands out there, and even at that he only scored two of the fight scenes. He’s not really competing with gunshots or engines in the fantasy or animated movies, with the exception of Men In Black 3 which was a sequel.

He’d never say it of course but I can’t help but wonder if the absolutely terrible treatment of his score for Terminator: Salvation was a turning point. There seems to be a complete cut-off of ‘noisy’ blockbusters after that.

I asked someone who saw it and he said the score is used sparingly and it’s his best in years. He then compared it to Arcade Fire’s Her score which I wasn’t a fan of.

He said in ClassicFM that there are only three instruments in the score.

Danny’s name has been removed everywhere and replaced with a Mason Bates.

The movie is finished and so it’s pretty safe to say Danny wasn’t involved.

I’d have loved a CD release too but it doesn’t suggest that they fell out at all. Once Lana got involved Interscope got involved because that’s who she’s signed with, as far as I can tell Interscope don’t release scores. If anything we’re probably lucky to have got what we got.

Yeah that was Shore, he apparently got paid and doesn’t seem at all bitter about it in Jeff Bond’s book.

Four days with the the Hollywood symphony orchestra remember. None of the fansites are reporting this (and they’ve reported every minute detail about the movie) and the head of music at Universal described Elfman’s approach as low-key.

I don’t think these are legit, even the times are kind of off. The uploader even stuck a Vevo banner on the video to try and pass it off as real. That doesn’t even sound like Beyonce on the album sampler?

I imagine the score for something like this would sell substantially better than your typical score. Still holding out hope.
