ddddeeeeParticipantSaw the movie which was great.
Outside of the Irving cue, which is a lot different in the movie than on the album, the score seemed mostly non-existent. It’s great that Elfman’s name is attached to such a good movie but it seemed like a bit of a waste.
ddddeeeeParticipantAlbum is coming, in the UK at least. It’s getting released a month earlier overseas so makes sense.
ddddeeeeParticipantThis movie is filled with amazing source music, but it also features a score by Danny Elfman.
It’s a very source-based movie but he did some amazing, key pieces of music, as he did with “Silver Livings Playbook.”
Is it true that Chris Tucker set you up?
Wow. That’s the first time I’ve heard that. Why does Chris Tucker know Danny Elfman?
Because of “Dead Presidents.”
Well, I love Chris and Chris might have had a role in there, but I don’t know. I honestly can’t remember.
Is Elfman someone who you’re looking to re-team with?
Well, I want to re-team with both: I want to work with Chris Tucker again and Elfman is now definitely a part of our process. We have a team that has a rhythm and we always end up in Danny’s studio. We took all this source music, and he knew it was going to be very source-y. But he very brilliantly put in the first score that starts the picture, when Irving leaves the suite to chase the mayor. It’s a perfect bit of score that fits the rest of the movie and the craziness that’s going on inside of these people. And he does that a bunch of times.

ddddeeeeParticipantI uploaded Elfman’s track if anyone is interested.

Unfortunately The Unknown Known didn’t make the Best Documentary shortlist so the release probably isn’t coming anytime soon, which in turn would delay a CD of the score.
December 14, 2013 at 11:44 pm in reply to: The Unknown Known: The Life and Times of Donald Rumsfeld. #67751ddddeeeeParticipantI’m curious as to why the score wasn’t eligible for an Oscar nomination? I never would have expected it to get nominated but other scores for documentaries are eligible.
ddddeeeeParticipantNominated for an Annie award.
ddddeeeeParticipantSony have a FYC for Elfman on their website. An indicator of a longer score or are they just promoting everything?

ddddeeeeParticipantThe Silver Linings release came from nowhere I think so there’s hope.
ddddeeeeParticipantSoundtrack album features one Elfman track, which can be sampled here.
ddddeeeeParticipantThe ‘Horn of Plenty’ melody was by Arcade Fire, would have loved to have seen what Elfman would have done with it though JNH’s take was the highlight of that score. Their song Abraham’s Daughter is aces too.

Recording today in London.
November 13, 2013 at 1:38 am in reply to: The Unknown Known: The Life and Times of Donald Rumsfeld. #61779ddddeeeeParticipantThe film hasn’t been released nor is there any news of a release. Wouldn’t expect a score release until the film is out.
ddddeeeeParticipantHe said it was ‘jolly’ though he’s never said anything bad about it, in fact recently he said Elfman’s score was brilliant.
ddddeeeeParticipantWeepy Donuts plays over the end credits, it’s really lovely. The movie also has a song for the main titles, so Elfman’s take wasn’t used.
ddddeeeeParticipantLalaland are releasing the score next week!
ddddeeeeParticipantddddeeeeParticipantI read an interview with the director today and he said the movie will be finished in a month so it sounds about right?
ddddeeeeParticipantAccording to Twitter the score is being recorded today in London.
ddddeeeeParticipantElfman says he finishes the score this week.

ddddeeeeParticipantThanks for the confirmation, the movie does look terrific. Hopefully there’s still a MP3 release. A lot of the Silver Linings release was padding that never made the film.
ddddeeeeParticipantWell the only other one is Meet The Robinsons, which admittedly this one sounds a lot closer to.
The plot synopsis reads like 90 minutes of gags, hopefully there’s more to it than that. If it’s in line with Dreamworks’ last March releases like How To Train Your Dragon or even The Croods all will be well.
