Sommersby?
MonsterheadParticipantNice! Now bring on the soundtrack release already.
MonsterheadParticipantThe movies that Elfman worked on at the beginning of his career have always been criticized. I watch the movie and thought it was fine. There’s no room for middle-of-the-road movies anymore, it seems. It’s either the greatest or the worst. And then it’s forgotten about.
Hoping for a soundtrack release. I quite liked what I heard.
MonsterheadParticipantRaimi basically confirmed that he is directing this. Fingers crossed for Elfman to jump on board too.
MonsterheadParticipantWhat a good mail week! Just my copy in the mail a day after LLL’s DARKMAN. Two of my fave Elfman scores with brand new editions back-to-back,
MonsterheadParticipantGot mine yesterday. I decided to re-watch the movie on Monday night and it holds up great. I never noticed some of the optical effects before — like the split screen shot of the dock in front of Peyton’s building on the bottom third of the frame. It was fun seeing some of these LA locations again with adult eyes.
Very excited to dive into all this unreleased music.MonsterheadParticipantI already like more than MIB3
MonsterheadParticipantI already like it more than MI3
MonsterheadParticipantCoraline?
MonsterheadParticipantYes, Ryan already pointed that out to me. Hadn’t listened to the score in FOREVER, but somehow that secondary theme by Schifrin stayed with me and I don’t think I ever heard it in any other MI movies. Or at least, not as prominently.
MonsterheadParticipantIts funny that you just posted this, as I just saw Mission: Impossible Fallout yesterday (its as great as they say it is).
While watching the film, I noticed that Lorne Balfe prominently reuses a variation of a sub-theme from Elfman’s MI soundtrack. You really hear it during the climactic helicopter chase. Has anyone else noticed this?
MonsterheadParticipantHas anyone actually seen the movie yet? I caught it last weekend and really enjoyed it. I think that the bonus cues from the MP3 version of the soundtrack are not actual cues from the film, and probably just tacked on as “bonus tracks”. I didn’t expect it to be as funny as it was. “Auntie Tia” comes in during a very memorable and funny sequence.
MonsterheadParticipantI’ve listened to it all the way through once, doing it again as I write this. I love what I’m hearing so far. Track 17 (John’s Speech) is a re-orchestrated version of Oli’s Lullaby from Standard Operating Procedure.
MonsterheadParticipantGood lord. That was some dizzyingly unwatchable dreck. Good music though. So, this is not in the original movie?
MonsterheadParticipantYes! I’ve been getting that damn thing too. I’m on a Mac with Chrome, btw
MonsterheadParticipantI hear a lot of other super hero homages in here. “The Amazon Mother Box” starts off with a reprise of Elfman’s HULK theme. I’m pretty into this soundtrack. Naysayers be dammed.
MonsterheadParticipantYep. And its glorious.
MonsterheadParticipantJust one Batman theme? Can’t wait to hear it
MonsterheadParticipantHow’d we all miss this?
Danny Elfman Scoring Gus Van Sant’s ‘Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot’
MonsterheadParticipantNo love for Deep Roy?
MonsterheadParticipantThat would be great!
MonsterheadParticipantSamples are up on Amazon:
MonsterheadParticipantThe artwork is up!
MonsterheadParticipantI’ve heard that an expanded Mission: Impossible is on its way…
MonsterheadParticipantGot mine over the weekend and I must say, its a fantastic expanded release. So great to hear Elfman’s musical canvas breathe across these two discs. I particularly liked Flattop’s Entrance, Kid Montage (unused in the movie),Tracy Gets Nabbed, Gasser and Mano a Mano. I was worried that all those short cues would feel like stop-and-go; but the cues flow nicely together. The alternate cues are subtle, but its nice to hear them included. Glimmers of Batman, but more of a precursor to The Flash and Darkman than I remembered. Its the Elfman I loved as a kid. Having listened to the original release many times over the past 26 years (!?), the remastering is an equally satisfying revelation.
This will be on repeat over the next few weeks for sure.
