ParticipantAnyone else get the Score Album yet? It’s my third time through now and it’s quite a lovely soundtrack from Elfman – something new and different. I cannot wait to see the movie.
Goof Track is a nice treat…

ParticipantAmazon has samples up now. I like what I hear:

ParticipantThat trailer was thoroughly exciting. As much as I loved DARK SHADOWS and FRANKENWEENIE, I’m most interested in Elfman’s non-Burton stuff this year and this may be the best looking one. I cannot wait to hear what wicked Herrmann-esuqe stuff he comes up with.

ParticipantThe film will be opening the AFI Film Fest in LA:

ParticipantI saw that too. It looked like it was someone else re-scoring a silent Hitchcock movie. The TwitPic showed a pretty low-fi set up.

ParticipantThe film is opening the BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 10th

ParticipantIf IMDb is debatable as a valid news source when it comes to credit lists of films in production, then I’d say that Wikipedia is even less so. Still, you never know…

ParticipantIt’s screening in LA at The New Beverly Cinema on June 10th.

ParticipantI noticed that no one here posted about the event, so I thought I’d chime in. The evening was great. Elfman was there, along with his brother, mom and other family members. The first suite for Edward Scissorhands was magical. They played to a live film accompaniment for “Beautiful New World”, “Ewardo The Barber”, “Ice Dance” and “The Grand FInale”. The acoustics were perfect and hearing the choir live was sumptuous.
Next, they moved to the Finale and End Credits from Sommersby. This was my favorite section of the show, surprisingly. When the traditional/Americana flavors for the End Credits began, I felt the mood in the auditorium light up. I don’t know if most people knew that music – but there was a definite spark that was felt when the banjo plucking and square dance beats kicked in. I always liked that music, but hearing it live reminded me how beautiful it really was.
Last and certainly not least, was Batman. I’m sure you can all imagine what that sounded like live and the audience erupted into a thunderous applause following the “Reprise” at the end of the suite, which began with the “Opening Credits” and moved into “Descent Into Mystery” (absolutely thrilling with the choir) and “Up The Cathedral” (with a real live organ!)
Watching David Newman conduct was exhausting. He clearly threw himself into the work and by the time the entire concert was finished, he looked like he had just ran a marathon. A standing ovation was obvious and Elfman ran up to the front and walked up on stage. The applause got even larger. The AYS nailed it and Elfman was clear to give them props. He also hugged Newman before leaving during the applause, only to come back for one final bow.
It was an amazing night and I look forward to next year.

ParticipantYeah, the main page here at MFADP says May 5th. I guess I didn’t bother to double-check anywhere else…
Monsterhead
ParticipantDoesn’t it seem weird that the soundtrack comes out on May 5th, which is a Saturday? Are new releases not on Tuesdays anymore?

ParticipantAnd in other news….
How about NIGHTBREED the series?

ParticipantThis has been screened before and is a low quality VHS copy that is projected. Barker would love to get his hands on the original elements that were removed (but exist in this workprint) to make a proper Director’s Cut, I’m sure.

ParticipantYou do work with Taylor over at Creature Features, Ryan? That’s too funny. He has always been very nice to me in my line of work. When I see him at Monsterpalooza this year, I have a little present for him…

ParticipantThis site, as it stands, feels irrelevant in this current age. Following MFADP on twitter or Facebook seems more logical to get what I want (information about Danny Elfman and his upcoming scores/CD releases) and to communicate with fellow fans. I love the site and have been visiting it since High School. But the times have changed. And I don’t feel the instance gratification here, like I do with various social media networks. We can connect strongly and more productively elsewhere. I love your work, Ryan. But I say, it’s time to retire this site.

ParticipantI’d like to know also. But according to The Wrap, Stephen Schwarz is doing the lyrics and the music

ParticipantWhat a beautiful piece of music. I’m greatly looking forward to this now, more than before.
Monsterhead
ParticipantSo THAT’S why the album was dedicated to Mancini?
Monsterhead
ParticipantOhhhhh, I see. He is a “horror journalist”. I get it now….
Monsterhead
ParticipantWhat an ignorant article. All the facts are nice to hear about, but that opening and closing paragraph? Please…
Monsterhead
ParticipantJudging by the track record of Warner Expanded Archive Editions, I bet we will be seeing a La La Land release of this sometime this year.
