Fingers crossed Elfman comes along for the ride. My guess might be this one goes to James Newton Howard, who has scored a few pics for Hanks/Gary Goetzman.

Maybe the push to September opens up Elfman’s schedule? ;)

I don’t see any irrefutable evidence on this German soundtrack board that confirms this poster was in Los Angeles during the recording of this score…

The piece sounded cool but seemed to be entirely electronic. When it got big at the Hollywood sign the voiceover buried the music. They cut to Elfman after Ennio’s win for Best Score and gave Elfman his credit for the opening.

I’ve listened to CHARLOTTE’S WEB twice in two days — man, does this score make me weepy. It’s the film/score’s 10th anniversary this year (10 years!!) and I find it somewhat disappointing that this score generated very little heat when it was released. I’m not sure what was going on in Danny’s life at the time, but to me it sort of echoes the emotional writing of BLACK BEAUTY and really found Danny in that sinewy sweet mode that proves he’s more than just a quirky or macabre guy. Listening to CHARLOTTE’S WEB you might be inclined to think he’s just a big softie!

Give this one a listen if you haven’t in awhile.

1990-1992 Elfman is my favorite — so that includes Shirley Walker, engineer Shawn Murphy and editor Bob Badami.

In the case of EPIC, do we know if any of that additional music is on the album? Elfman might be taking a more open role here giving additional music composers credit for stuff that’s in the film, but since it is rarely ever credited directly to another composer on the album, I tend to think it’s all his. In the case of FIFTY SHADES, well “Bliss” was not credited to Buckley in the notes, was it?

I think Danny’s involvement with ARMY OF DARKNESS is a little clearer — the EVIL DEAD series clearly “belonged” to Joe LoDuca. This is speculation on my part, but the post-production process on ARMY OF DARKNESS requires significant changes to the picture. The “March of the Dead” clearly worked well to smooth over the third act. LoDuca’s score was also heavily re-edited, and depending on the cut you watch (the Shout! Factory release includes 3 versions!) several cues are in different places.

Now, what I’d really like is a more film-accurate mix of the “March” — it sounds a bit more rough and ready in the film.

As for SCREAM 2, that was 1997, and behind-the-scenes info on film scores was kind of hard to come by ;)

I mentioned much the same thing on FSM. The notes are adapted from the Elfman box book, which is disappointing because there’s no mention of how the actual Intrada release came together.

That said, the music sounds brilliant — it’s like hearing the score as if it were brand new. Highly recommended.

DannyBiker, it might be carried by other soundtrack retail sites.

Have to say, I do not like the cover.

The key art is fine – same as theatrical. But what is with that type around the title logo? Is the “Danny Elfman” some lame attempt to match? Everything else is so crunched and claustrophobic.

Compare this to the original soundtrack album from 25 years ago, which feels classic and well thought out.

    What a shame…

    And it was announced… :)

Looks like score + bonus tracks (minus the Tom Jones track) runs 68:29.

The OST + tracks from the Elfbox totalled around 51:19 (not including the synth demos.)

“Introduction (Titles)” also appears to include the FOX logo music. Nice!

Emotionally rich, grand Danny Elfman soundtrack for famed 1990 Tim Burton fantasy romance with dark overtones finally gets expanded treatment! Johnny Depp plays Edward in nervous, moving fashion, Vincent Price wraps his own legendary career as The Inventor, Winona Ryder plays beautiful romantic lead Kim Boggs, Kathy Baker enacts comic neighbor Joyce. Tale is by turns spellbinding and eccentric, haunting and romantic. Danny Elfman tackles multiple musical challenges by covering every base: ideas are tuneful, melodic, quirky, exciting, inventive, powerful, grand, intimate – and ultimately haunting. Main theme alternates between major harmonies, minor ones as upwards-leaning melody unfolds in gently yearning fashion. With gentle arpeggio figures, transparent orchestrations, boys choir in the mix, this theme remains one of Elfman’s most heartfelt and endearing. Even in its most passioned, sweeping orchestral/choral perorations, this theme remains tender and romantic, colored with a tinge of tragedy. Beautiful writing! Numerous thematic ideas cover all those other bases, from comic hair-cut scenes to dramatic chase scenes, from wistful nostalgic overtones to crescendoing scares. Yet no matter how far out Burton and Elfman take things, incredibly haunting love story kindles all other elements throughout. Expanded edition available courtesy UMG & 20th Century Fox. Production by Nick Redman, audio restoration, assembly by Mike Matessino & Neil Bulk, detailed notes by Jeff Bond, package design by Joe Sikoryak. Absolutely winning score! Danny Elfman composes, Shirley Walker conducts orchestra, adult choir, Paulist Choristers Of California. CD available as part of Intrada INT series!

It’s hard to complain when Danny’s career is as diverse as it is today.

BIG EYES was a missed opportunity, but the film got the score it deserved, even if it doesn’t register as much in the film or on disc.

Despite his lukewarm output recently, I’d rather see ANY Burton pic than most anything else.
