    I’ve just started watching it.
The main titles were mostly pretty different to Elfman, except for a few Elfmaney phrases here and there, but at the very start of the title music, those rolling flutes instantly put me in mind of Serenada Schizophrana, (Bells and Whistles to be precise.) I wonder if those were both examples of things Bartek has added in himself.
I’ll hear what else I hear later in the film.
Btw, where is the suite from? Is it from the original recording?

Posting videos such as this are OK. Only youtube vids which are a music track and a picture are prohibited. (Because the track has not been edited or overdubbed or anything, it sounds exacty as it would on the CD (only the sound quality is usually poor)).

And no. This isnt Elfman, it’s just generic scary halloweeney music as far as I can tell. It sounds to be mostly electronic.

There are of course many TV programmes, films and videos such as this that will have re-used tracks from Danny’s previous scores or other works, a complete list of which has yet to be compiled (I keep hearing bits of Elfman underscoring Top Gear, for instance. (It’s a UK car show, if you cant be bothered to Wiki it, I wouldnt be)). So, though you might not be able to tell if a track has been re-used for something like this, you can be sure whether on not it was compsed specailly by checking Danny’s list of works below, which is a pretty conclusive list.

Uh Thor, it’s very sweet you think I have to “BUY the albums to hear the songs”. This is the internet age! In truth, I could probably download any Boingo/Elfman, or indeed any other album I wanted. But I enjoy building a collection, helping the artist in some small way (though that’s really only for CD’s from official shops) and having CD’s are like tokens of my musical interests.

Wow, thanks for everyone’s advice and recommendations! A hot topic it seems! I’m going to take Descent’s advice and listen to some of their other songs before I buy some CD’s, then take everyone else’s advice should I decide to buy them! Not really true that I’ve only heard “Grey Matter”. I have seen the Forbidden Zone (and I love the opening song) and I’ve heard snippets of other songs in other things aswell, and I have liked them all.

Justin Beiber? My 10 year old sister will LOVE this film!
Justin Beiber is one of those people who should never be in any film, let alone the Batman. Is nothing sacred?

It would have been awsome for Danny to revisit Batman a third time. I loved his BR score. So I’m hoping he’ll do MIIIB so we can see what he’d to with a trilogy. Saying that, I’m not sure I’d want a Burton/Keaton Batman 3. I’d rather just enjoy Burton’s 2 Batmans as they are. He would NEVER do it anyway. He knows fans want a third Batman from him and he hasn’t done it. It’s too late. The ship has sailed. It’s been nearly 20 years since BR. It’s like petitioning George Lucas to make more Star Wars films 22 years after the first film, and not the piles of shite he gave us intead. :)

Hmmm. Can we block this guy? I’m not that interested in golf.
His posts also don’t make ANY gramatical sense, if we had one out of two I’d be fine with it. But we have neither.

    DUUUDES!
Daney Elftan and Tim Burfon are releasing this aaawwweeesome new box set!
I guess it’ll have 25 years of Elftan’s scores! (Even though I shouldn’t have to guess, I do work at the place they’re making it, still I’ll product place good and hard, they’re paying me).

I’m looking forward to our WMG intern’s next post. It’ll be all whimsy and wonder and guesswork.

    He didn’t ask me!
I had a quick look on the board, couldn’t find it. Do you have a link?
    What did people say?
I just want a comprehensive, if not complete release of his scores for Tim’s films. Especially Pee-Wee, and I thought the Alice album was a bit lacking in places. I pray this release is better. That video trailer at least confrims that all their films will be on there. What is that 14th disk though?
I just hope it’s not a best moments selection by Tim and Danny. I love them, obviously, but they won’t pick the tracks I wan’t them to pick!

Oh yeah now my family and any friends I like well enough to grace with the knowledge of all that is Elfman are sick and tired of hearing about him! I’m trying to see Elfman-scored things I haven’t seen yet (I can’t really listen to the scores first), and I always get scorn when his name comes up in the titles, they think that’s the only reason I’m watching it. (Whick it isn’t, by the way, it’s just one of many reasons).
Of course lots of people know the Nightmare Before Christmas, but none of them know who wrote the music. There’s just a barrier, so many peope just refuse to hear music in films.
Often i’ll start taking about Danny and eventually I give up listing films I think they’ll recognise and just say “The Simpsons” and walk away. I hate having to boil him down to a theme tune. And judging by his face at comicon when he has it shouted at him, he hates it to.

I’ll have to stop posting late at night/early in the morning. I just rant. I’m sorry.
As Danny Biker said, I don’t connect emotionally at all with JNH’s work. Or Zimmer’s. It might not encourage me to physically expire, but my hatred for it knows no bounds (Zimmer btw, not JNH, I’m pretty neutral towards him, hostile towards Zimmer). But hyperbole is a better way of communicating emotions.
I think my posts are being a little too confrontational. Let us talk of lovely things that don’t inspire my rage!

Why does Zimmer get all the praise he does? WHY?

Okay! First, this is the Danny Elfman forum! If I wanted to be enlightened on the highly possibly not deliciously disinteresting noise of James Newton-Howard, I wouldn’t be here.
Secondly. I HATE HANS ZIMMER! And the odious, bland and generic music he wrote for Nolan’s Batman films make me want to simultaneously vomit and die. As such, I have no desire to be shown anything likeable in Newton Howard’s music for Batman. His association with Zimmer is a discredit to him.
Thirdly, am I right in thinking that we are not allowed to link to youtube videos in our posts? Instructions to that effect are emblazoned at the top of the forum in bright red letters.
Lastly, oh please, please don’t start trying to argue a case for Hans Zimmer! :(

No not for a minute, but did they think, sitting in their offices, “Those Elfman nerds won’t have heard about our new release! None of them will have been to comicon! None of them will have posted information about it seconds after they left the conference room through the use of the wonderful modern technology we have today! Quick! Post a two sentence product placement at once!

Yeah, I suppose. Not really a fan of M. Night Shyamalan. I tend to only listen to scores if I liked the film/director. That cue from Signs is quite good. I like the brass. That is quite similar to Elfman in style though isn’t it?
Most recent thing he did I saw was Nanny McPhee 2 (I know that’s a weird example). Patrick Doyle did a lovely job in the first one. I was a bit dissapointed by Newtown-Howard’s score. I didn’t expect him to use Doyle’s themes, but I didn’t like his score at all. T’was all style and no substance.

Meh, suppose. I’m not very familliar with his score releases, but of the films he’s scored that i’ve seen, the music has never caught my attention.

See! Your mind! Corrupted by colours, sounds and shapes!
Why would you start a new topic for something about which there is already a topic? The Clutter!

I’m just waiting on the WB giving us some actual information on this. What? Which? And how much? I’m just thinking now that they may try and charge like £10 a CD for this. That adds up. £150 I can’t help but fear. It’s going on my Christmas list, i’m not going to worry about it.

P.S. Not trying to be a smartypants, so for my reprehensible floccinaucinihilipilification regarding your earlier post, may I offer my most sincere apologies.

P.S.S I’ve got all the Burton/Elfman scores there are, so they’re going to have to tempt me some other way. Surely there will be some special stuff on these CD’s.

    Oh arse,
No interest in the film, but it was the only interesting-sounding score on the horizon for Danny. I was looking forward to some bombast. I have no idea what to expect with Restless and The Next Three Days.
An Elfman score may have been The Green Hornet’s only hope of redemption.
What deliciously disinteresting noise will JNH offer us?

One of those wonderful adverts/trailers which tells you nothing about anything, it just corrupts your mind with colours, sounds and shapes untill you submit and buy whatever they’re selling.

I haven’t listened to all of the Vertigo score yet, only heard it in the film. It’s not my favourite of his, he can be a little hard to listen to, and Vertigo seems to one such score where you have to persevere to appreciate it.
I love the Ghost and Mrs. Muir; the ascending, rolling opening to the theme is wonderful.
Taxi Driver, anyone hear some inspiration for the harps in Red Dragon there? The throbbing two notes?
I havent heard as many of his scores as I would like, I’ll have to work on it. What do people roccomend?
