I think he means finding time for quiet moments in an otherwise loud and bombastic kind of film.
I’m hoping this will just be a one or two track contribution from Danny, like spykids or kick ass. Otherwise he will have been wasted.bookbinder3ParticipantThanks for the HQ version!
I wish I had a cat with Danny’s voice.November 30, 2010 at 10:45 pm in reply to: Batman Returns Limited Edition 2cd from LaLaLand Records #66261bookbinder3ParticipantI’m excited to have the whole score presented as a score, not suites. Not as many new alternates as I would like, most of them are album versions, but hey.
Maybe better sound quality as well? Original album was fine obviously, but LLL said they got really good sources from WB.
bookbinder3ParticipantI love “Breakout”, brilliant strings, hint of Charlie’s “Up and Out” at one point.
I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet, but none of the other traks really jump out at me yet…mostly tones and electronics, and some harp borrowed from Red Dragon.
“The Truth” is interesting, though….very….contemporary.November 28, 2010 at 2:53 am in reply to: Batman Returns Limited Edition 2cd from LaLaLand Records #66249bookbinder3ParticipantThe first disk is film mix/version is it? Ok. Not quite as expanded as Batman but then yes, the original album was pretty complete. The not split up tracks is nice. No part 1 part 2 nonsense.
bookbinder3ParticipantI remember reading somewhere that Elfman found it difficult working on Nightmare when Burton left to work on other things and Selick became full time director, as it were. And that there was some conflict about who should recieve credit for what (remember that Danny was a producer aswell). I think Danny felt like he deserved a little more credit than he got, he had shaped quite alot of the flm through his songs after all.
Now, I’ll have to go link searching for you, but I remember also that Burton later compared Danny, Caroline Thompson and Selick to squabbling children near the end of production, all feeling like they deserved more credit than they were getting.
That, and I think the fact that Elfman hasn’t worked with Selick since their last collaboration, despite several suitable projects, speaks for itself.
bookbinder3ParticipantWhat I’ve heard of the new Potter score I HATED. There wasn’t even an inkling of the theme, which I was really annoyed about.
I’d hate something as beautiful and original as “Alice’s Theme” not to get noticed. It’s probably the score he deserves to win for of the last 10 years or so.bookbinder3ParticipantI’m hovering round a copy on ebay, should I definitely hold off though?
bookbinder3ParticipantJust no.
He’s not going to work with Henry Selick again. It’s quite clear they didn’t get on whilst making The Nightmare Before Christmas. Selick hasn’t worked with Elfman since, has he? Nope. Bet you a tenner.bookbinder3ParticipantI’d say it was a mistake.
bookbinder3ParticipantIs there likely to be a cheap, music/bare bones only release after this is all sold? Is there a precedent for a set like this?
October 14, 2010 at 2:55 pm in reply to: Elfman to perform at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood?? #58716bookbinder3Participantbookbinder3ParticipantCan you give us any more details? How far away perhaps?
bookbinder3ParticipantREALLY? Thats wonderful! It’s so beautiful. Looking forward to it.
bookbinder3ParticipantWhat’s the sound like? Is it just a copied CD? Or was it factory made?
bookbinder3ParticipantWell, finances, it seems ,will not allow me one at the moment. If in a few years people sell some on then I will get it if I can. I am pretty dissapointed that those CD’s had to be swathed in pretty pictures untill I couldn’t afford it. Curse you whoever you are!
So, sadly, and not because I don’t want it, NO.
bookbinder3ParticipantWhen money allows YES! OF COURSE!
bookbinder3ParticipantIs that a response to my question?
bookbinder3ParticipantThe embedded video says “Numbered First Run”.
Does that mean there will be more after the first 1000, that aren’t numbered? Or something different entirely? It’s not really clear.bookbinder3ParticipantI don’t know which thread about this to post in, oh well.
Bloody wow:
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.Am I right in saying that only the first run will be a “collectors edition” numbered 1-1000, then a not-numbered but equally awesome (but hopefully a wee bit cheaper) release?
bookbinder3ParticipantHe is quite widely played by school bannds, mostly because of his “fun” scores and themes, The Simpsons for example. I meant in the Classical Community. An Orchestra near me, should they ever play film music, play John Williams. All other composers are ignored.
bookbinder3ParticipantSteve Bartek conducted PSYCHO. And though I see no mention of Elfman conducting a track for Charlotte’s Web on the CD liner notes, that may be in the end credits. Perhaps he NEVER conducts. So no, no luck I’m afraid. He has, sadly, never been a “mainstream” composer. You might need to become a fan of John Williams or Howard Shore if you want to go see them in concert.
bookbinder3ParticipantI’m not sure what he has conducted, but I would say it would be a small group during a recording session, not a full Batman performance. And he has never ever performed his film music live anywhere for us to film, I dont think so anyway, shame, but hey, least he hasn’t let the ego get to him.
bookbinder3Participanta: It was a rhetorical question
b: I think a stop motion version (more cartooney) will require something bolder, harkening back to old sci-fi/ hammer horror scores
c: don’t be so contrary
d: who’s fan-site is this anyway?bookbinder3ParticipantNot confirmed yet, but this has to be a sure thing right? We’re forgetting that except for two films, one because of what had been confrimed by both Danny and Tim as the end of their partnership, and the second because the film was based on a classic musical in which there was no need for Danny. We tend to be a bit tentative over Elfman scoring Burton films, don’t we? I’m not sure why. Ed and Sweeney seem to have shaken our faith. If Burton is directing or co-directing (as he did with Corpse Bride) then it’s a sure thing. I don’t think he’ll just be producting because a: Is he making anything else at the moment? I believe Dark Shadows etc. are all in pre-production. And b: several people talking about it said that it was very much Tim’s project, might this be the first strictly Burton-directed stop-motion film ever? And at the end of the day, who could score a film about a frankenstein-dog better than Mr Danny Elfman? I’d love to hear something reminiscent of Beetlejuice.
