ParticipantThanks a lot. A great interview. You might not like his art but it confirms what an intelligent artist he is…

ParticipantThe real question being “When Richard Elfman got the idea for the film ?” And I want a specific day of the week, damned !
DannyBiker
ParticipantAgreed but I find his Van Sant scores more creative. In addition, the film themselves are better but that’s another subject…
DannyBiker
ParticipantYou missed an obvious Descent Into Mystery, as “To Die For” is the first collaboration between Van Sant and Elfman; probably his best after his love story with Burton.
Great job anyway !DannyBiker
ParticipantIt does sound like Elfman. A lot…I’m pretty sure it’s a demo.
DannyBiker
ParticipantYou should search the internet deeper…that track is out there since 2005 or so…
DannyBiker
ParticipantAnd “Mars Attacks!” had Sarah Jessica Parker.

ParticipantWell, Descent, from what I understand from your posts, it seemq like you’re giving a lot of importance to melody (to use a very generic word) while some of us here are more interested in orchestration techniques and musical textures. And if you’re into that, A Simple Plan, is a (the ?) highlight of his career.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Burwell’s work for Fargo (a rather overlooked composer if you ask me) but except the fact that both scores are written for movies where people kill each other in the snow, they don’t play in the same category.

ParticipantGood Lord, I’m surprised to see how “Milk” is so underestimated around here. From all the great scores of 2008, it’s my favourite along with Hellboy II…and quite frankly, I was disappointed by both of them at first !
These are the work of a very mature composer; while they have very strong themes, these scores are more about textures and carefully balanced orchestration. Early-90’s Elfman would I’ve never been able to write that kind of music…
In the end, although I was really fond of Wanted when it was released, I just realised the score completely disappeared from my playlists – and won’t come back for a long while. Very fun score…but that’s pretty much it. It’s just a million miles away from his big brother Mission: Impossible…DannyBiker
ParticipantYoutube/Columbia asked me to remove it. I was surprised it lasted so long actually; I’m pretty sure the others will be deleted with time…
Speaking of these others, I would say they offer a better sync work. The train video had some personal edits that were not representative of what was originally intended I guess.DannyBiker
ParticipantHonestly, this production has been a disaster from day one. It doesn’t surprise me, it’s almost coherent…
Oh well, let’s wait for the leak…

ParticipantAnswer to question number 1 : No.
Answer to question number 2 : No.I’ll let you do the thinking…

ParticipantYou’re not poor. That’s just expensive…

ParticipantThe Rolling Stones jumped the shark several times. With a 10-12 years’ career and at least five albums that became History, I just don’t see when it happened for The Beatles…

Unfortunately it’s a cover !I also found this topic on rock band message board : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvQxe_C3__A

ParticipantSad news indeed. As Ryan said, he captured the 80’s youth so well that his films will stick with me for a long time…

ParticipantYou don’t have a girlfriend don’t you ?
As for George Condo, I think the Serenada Schizophrana CD cover was one of his piece of work…
August 2, 2009 at 3:33 pm in reply to: What Non-Burton Movie Would You Like Elfman to do a DVD Commentary For? #64466DannyBiker
ParticipantYeah but Burton tends to be boring when he does that.
I find the commentaries tracks to be a very unnatural exercise. Talking about what you created is a hard task and most people aren’t very good at it. It gets interesting when they record the commentary several years after the release of the film, when the creators have actually some kind of perspective. The only commentaries that I always enjoy listening are the ones for The Simpsons and Futurama; it’s sometimes as funny as the episode itself.
