I don’t have Facebook, so I can’t verify this, but apparently Lorne Balfe has been dropping hints that he’s scoring this.
I think it’s fun! The mixing seems off to me, but I lack the technical knowledge to articulate why.
I love the idea that this obscenity-filled song was permeating in his mind at the same time as a percussion concerto.
Is it not a bit weird that there was a last minute edit and that the score fits it perfectly? As far as I can remember, there are no repurpuposed cues, it’s completely in sync with the visuals and the score plays exactly as it does in the Lalaland release.
I love the movie and the idea that there was an even weirder version is pretty wild.
Bought by Netflix, who plan on releasing it later this year.
I think they keep it uploaded.
If not, I was able to download the original upload of the entire performance and could send it your way.
(I would/will obviously buy a/the proper release.)

I’ve listened to this release every night for the last four days. It really is special – such a distinct, one-off moment in Elfman’s career.
Delayed until March 2022 now.
Can’t imagine they’ve been able to lock down a composer with all these release date changes.
Happy for Raimi to have a lot more time on the movie though.
Though Elfman’s in good form, every single question you’re tired of being asked is here…

Incidentally, did anyone watch this documentary? It has this unbelievably odd section with Brian Tyler attending screenings of Age of Ultron and talking about how he likes to stand by the door and watch how they react to his music; afterwards, he likes to go to the bathroom and hear if anyone’s humming his music. This is all set to Elfman’s music. Really bizarre.
Oh, man. When the warmth finally breaks through (just a little!) in ‘The Will’…the introduction to the eclipse theme in ‘The Well’…the transition from present to past in ‘Better Times. So good.

Anyone want to recommend any percussion concertos? I own the Glass one and like it, but I’m really struggling to get into any others.
He has the percussion concerto premiering next March, but I suppose he could get that written this year (assuming he has no other movies lined up).
I liked Giacchino’s score for the first (and I’m very hot/cold) on him, and I LOVE Christopher Young, but I’m really going to need Elfman on this…
He could reuse his ‘twins’ theme from AoU for Wanda.
Odd that the liner notes don’t mention Sheffer’s involvement.
This is a dream release – it sounds so good, like it was recorded only a few years ago.
I need a Nightbreed release as good as this one.
