    Spider Fan:

“…even with tragic thrillers like ‘Titanic’ and ‘Apollo 13′”

    Aren’t those the same score?

I didn’t see anyone else smack you one, so I had to. I actually also like Horner, but he lacks the originality of other composers.

I don’t actually know who my #2 is. The only reason I claim Elfman as my #1 is because the top 5 CD’s in my collection are all his. Zimmer I like, but he some times also lacks originality and he frequently collaborates with other composers gets all the credit. Newton-Howard and Shaiman I respect highly. Morricone is FANTASTIC, as is Rota, but I don’t listen to their work all that frequently. John Williams is John Williams, enough said.

    No number two for me.

Number Two!!! I just got the toilet humor remark!!! Wow! I must be slow today.

Not that you can judge these things from the previews, but this upcoming movie looks a lot better than the last. This being a fairly old post, I assume that I wont catch too much flack for saying that the second X-Men movie sucked. I’m kind of looking forward to this one (assuming that they don’t write in any of the horrid teenybopper drama, and exploitation of young actors, which was so heavily incorporated into the last flick).

I am so glad that I was never a teenager.

I don’t have any Elfman specific playlists. I have one called “Spooky” , which is Elfman dominated, but also features some Thomas Newman, Cliff Eidelman, and Nino Rota.

Isn’t the spider-man score owned by Sony? Boy, you DON’T want to mess with them! Their the ones planning to release their music on data CD’s only, with software included to prevent reburning/achieving. They’d take you to court and push for outrageous punitive fees and measures just to make an example of you.

I agree that when a score is not for sale by the company in ownership thereof (or licensed to distribute), there is no harm in downloading it or distributing it freely. (Who’s getting hurt?) This is why I see no harm in my owning a bootleg of the Family Man score (which I had to painstakingly piece together from numerous sources). But if anyone were to decide to distribute it (in audio CD format) then of course I would have to buy it (both because I want an official copy and because I am certain that it is of better quality). The fact remains, however, that I have stolen this music (or more accurately copied it) from those that are greedily hoarding it to themselves. It was a conscious illegal action on my part.

Even if Ryan were to post the clips on this site in real audio format for streaming only, in extremely low quality, I could still rip the audio, and he could get in trouble for distributing if he did not have express written consent from the production studio (which I doubt he could get). People are really WAY too uptight about this whole music piracy thing. Makes me wonder how he gets away with having clips from the Family Man on this site. Couldn’t that be considered unlicensed broadcasting, or did he get permission to post them? (Don’t worry Ryan, I didn’t rip your Family Man clips. They’re too low quality.)

I have to agree with spidy, it’s a complete rip off. Not as detailed as Pixar’s work, but definitely attempting to capture their style. Competition can be so cruel sometimes.

Well, I think that the simple fact that other people can enjoy Elfman’s work the way I do is just about the coolest thing in the world (closely matched by electric spray-on chicken hydrators). Understanding what those people are saying I suppose is comparatively unimportant, though it is nice. At least these people have a good excuse.

“I’m a 40’s journalist, complete with a real London Fog trench coat and a fake Fedora hat.”

Why don’t you invest in a real fedora? I have three of them, and love them all. You should be able to find some high quality hats for between $30.00 and $80.00. I personally recommend fur felt crushables.

The link below is to an online store I have had good dealings with in the past. Maybe you know of another place? Everyone should own at least one good hat.

Well even if I did scare her away, I’d just like to state here and now that the Elfman fan’s capacity for humor is truly a marvelous thing. If there is one aspect that unites us all, it is surely our humor. (Or is it just the fact that we like the same music?) And even if I did just cost all of you a female board member, who could have possibly brought at least one of you happiness beyond your wildest imagination, you still have me!

    God bless us, every one!

I’m going to be moving away now. Someplace… Remote.

I take it all back! I didn’t mean a word of it! Your nose and hair clash terribly! I HATE the cloths you’re wearing! The last time I saw your face I was in a zoo!

    Please come back!!!

Brian Tyler’s site does look very cool. I didn’t see any photos from Buba Ho-Tep though.

That’s like the best movie ever!!! (Top 10,000 at least!)

You could pull still immages off the DVD’s behind the scenes clips if you can’t find them anywhere else.

Hate me if you so choose, but I can’t help myself, correcting grammar is a bad habit of mine.

A grammatically correct statement would have read:

“I think that it is,” the word “it” being in reference to BestBuy Inc. (note the use of the first parenthetical comma) “for me at least,” (closing of parenthetical statement with second comma) “a great place for getting his DVD’s or CD’s.” I personally recommend replacing the word “getting” with either “finding” or “purchasing”. (Note the use of the period at the end of the sentence.)

(Also note my placing of a period, in the last non-parenthetical sentence of the above paragraph, OUTSIDE the quotation marks surrounding the word “purchasing”. This is because the word in quotations is neither a partial sentence, nor a conclusion to a quote from an actual or fictional person. I feel that it is occasionally grammatically correct to place punctuation outside quotation marks, though this matter is still a matter of hot debate among many English professors and linguists. To be on the safe side, you may want to put commas and periods within closing quotation marks, except when a parenthetical reference follows. People rarely will correct, or even recognise/acknowledge, these mistakes.)

I must ask out of curiosity, how old are you? I usually let most grammatically incorrect statements go without correction, but I am noticing a pattern from you, which is why I ask. I mean no offense whatever your age. For all I know you’re simply too busy to check yourself, or have adopted English as a second language.

You guys disgust me with your flagrant self-promotion! Trying to hit on this new, sweet, young lady. Shame on you! Besides, she wouldn’t be interested in any of YOU. We all know that I’m REALLY the coolest one around on THIS board (sans the username).

Welcome to the board sweetheart. You have beautiful eyes. I love what your wearing. Your nose matches your hair splendidly. I appreciate you for who you are. You had me at “hey people”. Forget about these losers and lets meet up some time.

    Yours forever,

Or would I be the only aparently complete moron who didn’t get it?

(My friends/family didn’t get it either so unless we morons just have a tendency cluster together…)

Irrelevant, but as it was previously mentioned, the only problem with Walker’s Batman score is that it’s too short. Mask of the Phantasm rocks! If you haven’t already, BUY IT!!!

Chisel isn’t so bad. In fact I think it has real potential as a cat name.

Moonchousen?! I’ll just laugh and take that as a joke, while I secretly think in the back of my mind, “It’s a dog, it won’t know the difference!”

Learn to laugh a little, will ya’?!

I wouldn’t care If someone were planning to kidnap the man’s dog. In fact I’d want to be there just to see them sustain the bites, then watch the arrest, and so forth.

Furthermore, I wasn’t criticizing the dogs name. If there is anything I hate it’s weird names like “Moon Beam” or “Sparkling Rain”. I was just saying that for such an uncommon person, I hadn’t expected something so pedestrian. But actually, Gus is not nearly as common as say “Max” or “Rover” or “Rex”.

Gus? You wouldn’t normally expect something so pedestrian from an Elfman.

My question: “What does it matter?”

Are you planning on kidnapping it and holding it for ransom? Just think, if a fan did that, then maybe Danny wouldn’t want fans any more. Maybe he’d leave music forever and resign to a life in the postal service? Your actions could trigger a chain reaction that condemns us all to suffering “Video Game” quality scores.

No wait, if he retired, some equally sick fan might recommit the doggy-napping and demand that he resume. Then in his personal anguish, helplessness, and confusion, he might be reduced to spending the remainder of his days composing one note scores using only timing and octave selection to create his melodies.

For all of our sakes, DON’T DO IT!!! Can’t you just take his taxidermied cat instead?!

Edward, Family Man, Nightmare, Both Batmans, and Big Fish (in that order).

This is a rather common topic around here, of course it is reposted every time Danny does a new score. I wonder If It would be possible to make this an easily accessible thread, available for constant revision/review by forum members. (Perhaps a”Your Favorites” link?)
