urrrrrgreed! Hey Spider-Fan… I noticed you said something in another thread about having a CD from the third film? There were a couple of salvagable tracks that Young spat out. Do you have that CD? How can I get my hands on a copy?
KipobeParticipantCool! I look forward to that.
On a side note… (off-topic) what’s the odds that we will ever see anything positive in the Spider-Man franchise in 2011? Namely, Chris Young being fired, and someone else stepping in who would use Elfman’s work a little better?
KipobeParticipantAwesome. Thanks. I just ordered it up on Amazon.com.
KipobeParticipantEh…. it’s Spider-Man-esque… but not really. If anything it sounds a lot more like a Trevor Rabin score… or something from Day After Tomorrow.
KipobeParticipantYou know, I don’t post here a whole lot…. and it’s usually because Spider-Fan says EXACTLY what I’m thinking. He’s probably the only person I’ve ever “seen” who understands the Spider-Man theme (and by extension, Elfman’s work) like I do. If Spider-Fan weren’t here, maybe I’d have a few more posts. 😮

KipobeParticipantHow sad.
Mine won’t be here for a while… but this really did feel like it’d be a soundtrack heavy movie anyway. Score just seemed to be a throw-in.
KipobeParticipantIt’s also on a side site that Comcast has setup.
And like you both said… just do justice to the opening and closing swing, and I’ll be happy. I’m really looking forward to the movie in every other aspect. The music will cut me… but it’ll be a good film.
KipobeParticipantThen, I love you and I want to be your friend and possibly groom your pet hamster on alternate Thursdays.
KipobeParticipantI would love to know if he comes here. I would post more. Wayyyy more!
KipobeParticipantIf you notice, I registered over there in 2001, a couple of months before the first film. I tried to reason with him before over the years, but I’ve come to the understanding that he literally knows nothing about film scores and strictly goes by the theme sound… I call it the John Williams syndrome. (No offense to Williams… he’s a great theme composer, but he’s not my favorite cue writer in general). Even though I’m a HUGE Spider-Man fan (and that’s why I signed up to the site in the first place), I rarely go into the Spider-Man forums… those places are a nuthouse. I stay mostly in the Community or the Games forum.
Who are you over at SHH!, DB?
KipobeParticipantWhere do you get your info if you don’t mind, johnmullin? Or is that under wraps?
KipobeParticipantIf Sony didn’t like Young’s work up to this point, then what’s to say they won’t axe him altogether and let Bartek adapt Elfman’s old cues along with the unheard “new” themes,
KipobeParticipantI check this site (and specifically THIS thread) about 5 – 10 times a day because I was CONVINCED this story was not over. There is no way anyone in their right mind would allow the crap we heard so far to make the final print. (And as we all know, Raimi is not in his right mind).
I had a feeling something like this would happen…. and like Spider-fan said, I completely trust Bartek…. at least WAY more than I do Young.
On a side-note: I read these forums much more than I do post (which is a rarity for me on the internet), and I have to say that Spider-fan’s approach and ear for Elfman’s work is almost exactly like mine. Even within a community of Elfmaniacs, I still feel like everyone hears something different, but almost note for note the breakdown that Spiderfan gives, I’ve heard the same way. I love your appreciation for his music, and am really impressed by your ear… although I think Elfman’s music makes sense to anyone who knows his style well enough.
KipobeParticipantNo one’s arguing that the cues heard are salty remixes of Elfman’s work, patched together with original cues from Spider-Man 2, but that doesn’t change the fact that no NEW themes are from Elfman. Besides, that could’ve been put together before Elfman’s most recent walk-out.
KipobeParticipantWho were you pulling for at the Oscars, Spider-Fan?
KipobeParticipantRaimi himself said it’d be lame… if the Director said that, why would I buy it? Sony = money whores.
KipobeParticipantNot really… here’s an update thread:
http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259427&page=3
Look for the posts starting today. Again, really nothing.
KipobeParticipantIt would be nice, seeing as they tried to make ammends. This is the version they’re releasing dubbed “Spider-Man 2.5″… who knows… could be part of Elfman’s deal to return to the franchise. Regardless, it’s on right now… so we’ll soon find out.
KipobeParticipantIt is sad, true… but “decomposing composers” was king!
KipobeParticipantMy guess is death affects people of every proffession… even composing.
June 24, 2006 at 3:43 am in reply to: So I just watched “Honey I shrunk the Kids” the other day for the first time in 17 years. #57262KipobeParticipant“Honey” was ’89… so Elfman had put his style out there for a couple of years at that point. Nothing maybe that would sway someone like Horner, (I’m not sure how established he was at that point).
Horner is okay, I do like his music, but he’s without style in my eyes… mostly because he seems to sample and rip others work. Like I said, not so much his music I’m attacking, but his reputation and lack of individuality (from what I can see). But some of his work has a very distinct flavor. Mask of Zorro are still amongst some of my favorites.
As for the Nacho Libre clip, sorry… no link. I believe I saw it on Ebert & Roper… (first time I actually watched that show).
KipobeParticipant“…the rest is pointless”
haha
KipobeParticipantSpider-Fan is right. Spider-Man renewed my zeal in scores and Danny after I dropped off in the mid-90’s, but nothing has topped the feeling I got from first hearing Edward Scissorhands. Still my favorite score to date, and a beautiful listen-through.
Although last year gave us both Corpse Bride and Chocolate Factory which are both great listen-throughs each.
All the same, welcome Angela.
KipobeParticipantBurton should’ve made this. I said it before a million times, and I’ll say it again!
