Elfman scored a longer version of the titles with lyrics solely for himself. I guess he wrote the lyrics in an airport and at the last minute decided to make it his own project. There’s an interview posted here where he explains all this. I was disappointed the lyrical versions weren’t in the movie.
It looks more like Sibelius to me. I think “Finale” refers to the finale of the piece, not the program.
But what are with the reprises? I have a feeling some last-minute cuts went on.
And I agree. I felt the “reality” portion was more interesting than most of what went on in wonderland. Now that I look back on it, not much really DID happen.
Are the lyrical versions of Alice’s theme only for the album? Or what happened there? I was disappointed they weren’t in the movie … although I found the movie to be pretty mediocre, anyway.
Well, it COULD be depending on the materials used to make it. You’re never going to get the exact sound unless you use the exact instrument that Elfman used, and PLAY it in the same fashion. There’s just no way around it – every instrument has differences, subtle or otherwise, as does each player. The best you can do is get a close approximation, or better yet, formulate your OWN sound.
Yeah, the movie was pretty stupid. You can tell the music was hacked to sh*t and thrown together pretty shoddily, too. Very disappointed.
I felt the same way about The Wolfman until I heard some of the clips. These scores sound incredible!
I’m fairly certain that’s a Verrophone (or a sample of one) played with mallets. I’ve used the same instrument sound in my compositions.
Edit: Either that or it’s a Gamelon instrument, as D-Bo pointed out. They kind of have a similar sound.
