That was amazing. Probably the best thing to happen that night. I wish I could see the entire show.
Mr. DantzParticipantHow does one navigate this new discussion board? Very confusing.
Mr. DantzParticipantWow, I thought this forum was dead until I went searching for it today. Glad that’s not the case!
Mr. DantzParticipantCool. Can’t wait to hear what this sounds like when it’s recorded.
Mr. DantzParticipantIs Elfman not a fan of Horner?
Mr. DantzParticipantNo. I’d love to have it, but the price is just outrageous.
Mr. DantzParticipantI guess Batman Returns will have a similar release later this year. I always preferred that score.
Mr. DantzParticipantWho cares? It’s got Ellen Page!
Mr. DantzParticipantElfman scored a longer version of the titles with lyrics solely for himself. I guess he wrote the lyrics in an airport and at the last minute decided to make it his own project. There’s an interview posted here where he explains all this. I was disappointed the lyrical versions weren’t in the movie.
Mr. DantzParticipantIt looks more like Sibelius to me. I think “Finale” refers to the finale of the piece, not the program.
April 8, 2010 at 12:20 am in reply to: Danny Elfman Stop-Motion Narration and Billy Ray Cyrus’ Military Event (huh?) #65321Mr. DantzParticipantI wonder what Elfman performed at that event?
Mr. DantzParticipantSeems he’d have to be desperate.
Mr. DantzParticipantYou did the score, eh?
Mr. DantzParticipantBut what are with the reprises? I have a feeling some last-minute cuts went on.
And I agree. I felt the “reality” portion was more interesting than most of what went on in wonderland. Now that I look back on it, not much really DID happen.
Mr. DantzParticipantAre the lyrical versions of Alice’s theme only for the album? Or what happened there? I was disappointed they weren’t in the movie … although I found the movie to be pretty mediocre, anyway.
Mr. DantzParticipantStalkers.
Cuba Danny’s pretty cool. Would’ve loved to have heard that.
Mr. DantzParticipantWow. A lot of “I Forget” from Serenada in that track. Cool!
Mr. DantzParticipantWell, it COULD be depending on the materials used to make it. You’re never going to get the exact sound unless you use the exact instrument that Elfman used, and PLAY it in the same fashion. There’s just no way around it – every instrument has differences, subtle or otherwise, as does each player. The best you can do is get a close approximation, or better yet, formulate your OWN sound.
Mr. DantzParticipantYeah, the movie was pretty stupid. You can tell the music was hacked to sh*t and thrown together pretty shoddily, too. Very disappointed.
Mr. DantzParticipantI agree. Superheros are overrated.
Mr. DantzParticipantI felt the same way about The Wolfman until I heard some of the clips. These scores sound incredible!
Mr. DantzParticipantSounds great. I can hear some influences from Wojciech Kilar’s Dracula score.
Mr. DantzParticipantI’m fairly certain that’s a Verrophone (or a sample of one) played with mallets. I’ve used the same instrument sound in my compositions.
Edit: Either that or it’s a Gamelon instrument, as D-Bo pointed out. They kind of have a similar sound.
Mr. DantzParticipantThank the Baby Jesus.
Mr. DantzParticipantNo kidding. Pineapple Express is one of the most tedious movies I’ve ever sat through!
