Thor
ParticipantDamnit!! It just says that “copyright prevents us from showing this outside the US”. Bummer….
Thor
ParticipantThere isn’t any score in this film outside Sondheim’s own compositions, as far as I know. Hence there is nothing for Elfman to do. So NO, he is NOT scoring this film AT ALL.

Thor
ParticipantActually, Edmund Meisel wrote the original score for BATTLESHIP, but there are other versions out there, with excerpts of Shostakovich symphonies.
Thor
ParticipantThis was actually rereleased a couple of months ago. Too bad for me, because about two years ago I shelled out $40 for the old, hard-to-get release.
In any case, it’s great to have this Bernard Herrmann-inspired Williams score widely available again. I should note, however, that there were some problems with the first batch of rereleased CD’s (some digital fluttering). This was later rectified, but perhaps it would be best to check/ask before you buy. For more details about this, see the following thread:

ParticipantHei du! Så utrolig kuult å finne en annen nordmann her inne!!
Don’t worry…I was just greeting him/her in Norwegian. I would never have imagined another Norwegian in here. Of all the joints in the world…etc.
Thor
ParticipantWell, there’s the Elfman Zone, but it is far less active than this.
What dates BOTH boards, though, is the tree-format messageboard. Hopefully, the new redesign will include the up-to-date “ultimate” messageboard look a la the one at http://www.filmscoremonthly.com and many others.
Thor
ParticipantDang it, the video has been removed. What was it all about?
Thor
ParticipantIndeed. Especially not considering much of Elfman’s own score is inspired by what Schifrin wrote for the original series.
Thor
ParticipantI DO have Flash installed, but it still doesn’t work. And the (corrected?) link you provided still gives me the following message:
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /movs/nacho_libre_im_nacho_large.mov on this server.
Thor
ParticipantThe fact is that the review doesn’t even talk about the music very much. But at least it was positive in tone (more or less).
Thor
ParticipantHmmm….neither of the links worked for me. The first forwarded me to a site with a large gap in the middle (obviously where the video should be be) while the second gave me a “forbidden” message. Anyone else experience the same?

ParticipantWhat other Elfman commercials?
Thor
ParticipantHey, those are some amazing pieces, man!! I can’t believe how authentic the samplers are. “Ghost in Love” had some of that gothic CORPSE BRIDE/TALES FROM THE CRYPT-like quality with the harpschicord and everything. THE MAD SCIENTIST was just a tongue-in-cheeky freaky piece somewhere between PEE WEE and NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. You’ve got talent, David!
Thor
ParticipantHmm….I was waiting 4 minutes for it to load, but nothing happened. Something wrong with the file?

Thor
ParticipantYes, and in the case of SOMMERSBY, the producers eventually decided to make the film LESS a suspense romance and more a REGULAR romance. So Elfman’s score had to adapt to that.

Thor
ParticipantGeez, what the hell do you have against synthesizers and electronic instruments, anyway?
