Elfman will be nominated depending on the competition. So far his only REAL competition is Hans Zimmer’s “Inception.” BUT, we still have “Tangeled” left. Alan Menken is an Oscar favorite. There’s a new Harry Potter flick. A new “Chronicles of Narnia.” “Tron: Legacy” has been getting some good buzz. So, we’ll have to wait and see how those scores turn out.

I’ll rather have one of these than 10 superhero scores or other noisy affairs.

Everytime we have this debate you assume I’m only prefer his action-oriented scores. I’ve said that I also like his slower-paced scores like “Black Beauty” and “Sommersby.” But, sorry, these “Good Will Hunting” and “Simple Plan” type scores are just boring Oscar-bait nonsense.

So, Ryan, is Disney campaigning for Danny Elfman? I saw an ad today where they campaigned for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Visual Effects, Best Make-Up, and Best Costumes. So…no Elfman and no Burton. What little faith they have. OBVIOUSLY, this movie won’t be nominated in the “big” categories, but it should land a few technical nominations. As for Elfman, he SHOULD have a shot. This year hasn’t exactly been very good for movies scores. “Alice,” “Inception,” and Mike Andrews low-key score for “Cyrus” have been the only ones that have stood out for me. So far anyway.

Plus, Elfman already has plenty of other projects to work on.

It sounds more like Shirley Walker with a little Elliot Goldenthal thrown in.

in reply to: The Next Three Days #66166

The score is very Kingdom-esque. In other words, kind of boring.

in reply to: Dark Shadows (2013) #66157

    Very huge and very busy.

in reply to: The Next Three Days #66156

Doesn’t Elfman and his agent look at the cover before it goes to press? It seems like an odd mistake and even stranger that no one realized it.

in reply to: Burton/Elfman: 25 years box from WMG #66155

I really hate that this thing costs $500 because I want it SO BADLY! Ryan, please, post previews of the new material when you can. Thank You.

There’s no reason to believe he won’t do both.

Both film are only being released a couple of weeks apart. Danny isn’t Hans Zimmer who has the aid of “additional composers.”

That may be true. MIIIB is shooting already while Vampire Hunter has only just got a release date.

MIB 3 is already shooting because it’s a $200 million visual effects film. Those take longer to shoot. Vampire Hunter is a $65 million horror-comedy.

in reply to: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter #62428

This will be a horror-comedy, so we won’t be getting anything new from Elfman. It’ll be a little Beetlejuice with a bit of Darkman, a teaspoon of Sleepy Hollow and a pinch of Wolfman for flavor. MIB 3 is new territory for Elfman. He has never done a trilogy before. It’s a new challenge for him. And Elfman loves challenges.

in reply to: The Next Three Days #62426

The score is pretty much what I expected.

in reply to: ‘Houdini’ developments #62425

John, if the play is popular it’ll get a soundtrack release.

in reply to: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter #62424

June? There might be some conflict between this and Men in Black 3. I hope he can pull off both, but I doubt it. Hopefully, he stays committed to MIB3. This is Danny’s chance to FINALLY score an entire trilogy.

in reply to: Gus Van Sant’s ‘Restless’ #62397

    It’s very Danny Elfman-friendly.

Only if they lower the price.

in reply to: Burton/Elfman: 25 years box from WMG #66094

No it’s a reply to DIM, who asked why no DARKMAN and BLACK BEAUTY.

I said that instead of making us waste $500 on double-dipping (which is what this box set mostly is) they should have instead released a box set of Elfman’s out-of-print scores like Darkman and Black Beauty.

in reply to: Burton/Elfman: 25 years box from WMG #66078

This is no different than a big sports fan paying for season tickets to his or her favorite team

No, not really. You, as a major Elfman fan, already have all these CD’s. You’re paying $500 for a pretty box, demos, alternate takes, and a book. $500 for that is pretty ridiculous. This box set is only worth $100 at the most since most of what you’re doing is double-dipping. And not even double-dipping to a new technology.

Like I said before, they should have just sold these demos and alternate takes at Apple and Amazon for a few bucks. And then the book for about $15-20. And if they REALLY wanted to sell a box set then what about releasing some of Danny’s scores that are out-of-print? You know, like Darkman. Sommersby, Black Beauty, etc.

in reply to: Burton/Elfman: 25 years box from WMG #66075

can be something you pass down to your kid/kids

Except our kids aren’t gonna be listening to CD’s. That’s like if our parents gave us 8-track and cassettes. I mean, sure, the box is nice and the booklet is great but the albums themselve aren’t worth $500. Especially since we already own all of them. Anyone who’s buying this is doing it for the demos, alternate takes, and rareities. Stuff they can sell online for a few bucks. As for the book, they can sell that seperately as well.

in reply to: Upcoming Live Performances from Danny Elfman #66036

He has, sadly, never been a “mainstream” composer.

High School and College marching bands play his music all the time.

    in reply to: FRANKENWEENIE #66028

The old gang’s back (sort of).

All we’re missing is Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Jeffrey Jones, and Paul Reubens.

in reply to: Steve Bartek’s Cabin Boy Score #66008

I don’t hear a lot of Elfman in Steve’s music

I can’t hear much Elfman in it either, to be honest.

Not the main title theme per say but a lot of the tracks sound like rejected Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure music.

in reply to: Steve Bartek’s Cabin Boy Score #66004

The real question is will there ever be a release of the Cabin Boy score?

I’m sure La La Land Records will get around to it eventually. The interesting thing about the Cabin Boy score is that it sounds like Danny Elfman, which of course, only added to the rumors at the time that Elfman didn’t write his scores. I remember reading an interview with Steve Bartek where he complained that everyone hired him to score movies with the assumption that he was Danny’s ghost writer.
