ParticipantDon’t remember if I said this before, but the part where Augustus gets drowned in the chocolate, and you see it in the window (towards the end of the Oompa Loompa’s song) is very close to the image at the end of “Buried Alive 2” in the boat. Very very morbid… I loved it.
Don’t know if it was intentional… but very well done.

ParticipantFor the first part of your question, I don’t think it’s a rewritten version of the Main Titles, I just think it’s recut… Tim probably did that just for the trailer… but it’s definately from the Main Titles.
As for the second part of your question… a million people have been confused by this it seems (including myself). From what I understand, it definately is a cue in the Peter Pan film, although it is not included on the OST (original soundtrack), so even though it was scored by James Newton Howrard, there’s really no hard copy of it to be found… probably part of the reason Burton, or WB saw fit to use it. I sorely wish there was, though.

ParticipantVery interesting… although I’m not picking up an Elfman vibe from them (haven’t finished listening to them all…) reminds me of a composer (struggling to remember who) mixed with a bit of the late Elmer Bernstein.

ParticipantVery nice. I love the melody… and the fast piano keys (albeit brief) towards the end are very reminiscent of Elfman’s work with strings. I like…

ParticipantThe first thing I thought of was Space Odyssey (especially with the music, and all…) but my mind went back and forth… thinking that maybe Tim knew alot of people would reference Planet of the Apes… but I dunno. Coulda been two shots with one blow.

ParticipantAugustus Gloop would probably be my pick as well… although I think my favorite is probably Veruca Salt (just something about the way that track enters is amazing after the ferocious exit of Veruca, and the contrast the track brings to the scene… classic Burton/Elfman).

ParticipantKiller list, Dawg Man. I’ve been a huge fan of Elfman since I can remember. Most people think of John Williams when they remember their first scores (Supes/ET etc…) but I always remember Elfman’s Oingo Boingo days, and nothing stood out more to me than when I heard his work in Batman in the theaters. Only recently have I become more of a collector though.
Hey Elf, I’m curious about the Spider-Man 2 extended disk you have…. what exactly does it contain?
Kipobe
ParticipantActually, if I were gonna place the River Boat Cruise – Part 2 track anywhere, I’d place it right after the first River Boat Cruise because it seems like that track fades out as Wonka is having a flashback, and then when it returns to the present it changes into the Main Titles track (although, this is assuming “Part 2” would fit in this place, or was even written for that particular moment.)

ParticipantDamn! I missed a chance to swipe it for $35 the other day. Anyone can tell me if it’s worth the money? Someone else is selling it for $85, and I know I’m not willing to shell out those kinda bucks.
Anyone own this promo disc?
Kipobe
ParticipantPromo CD? As in, it’s not for sale anywhere?
Kipobe
ParticipantI’ll try here….
1. Main Titles
2. Wonka’s First Shop
3. The Indian Palace
4. Wheels in Motion
5. Charlie’s Birthday Bar
6. The Golden Ticket/Factory
7. Wonka’s Welcome Song
8. Chocolate Explorers
9. Loompa Land
10, Augustus Gloop
11. The Boat Arrives
12. The River Cruise
13. Violet Beauregarde
14. First Candy
15. Veruca Salt
16. Mike Teavee
17. Up and Out
18. Charlie Declines
19. Finale
20. End Credits Suite(River Boat Cruise – Part 2 is nowhere to be found in the movie)
I think that’s about right. The rest of the tracks are already in order, but I just placed the Oompa Loompa songs are they appear amidst the scored cues.

Participant15 Elfman tracks… 16 tracks total.
Kipobe
ParticipantI’ve noticed the soundtrack before. I didn’t want to get it because I was holding out for the score.
I finally found a tracklist that has been confirmed though. It’s 16 tracks and less than 30 minutes total. Looks like a great buy, but eBay has two sellers pushing it, and one starts at $25 and the other is a “buy it now” for $85. Eek.
Kipobe
ParticipantYeah, I noticed this too. That was the first whole cue I had heard from the soundtrack (ala Ryan) and therefore was looking forward to hearing it in the film. Didn’t see it, and I was confused.
The thing is, it is “Part 2”, so there could be a scene missing that used the track… or it could be like what you said.
Kipobe
ParticipantYeah, I noticed those…. actually, there’s several more, some are speculations.
Off-hand, this is what I can remember.
Edward Scissorhands reference when Wonka is cutting the ribbon to the factory. You only see his scissors coming from under his coat.
One of the trick or treaters was wearing a Batman constume, not unlike Keaton’s in 1989.…man, I’m drawing a blank. There’s quite a few, I’m just having trouble recalling them right now. There’s even a few non-Burton movies that have references too… if I remember, I’ll post them up.
Also, did anyone see the “Dahliasis” magazine in the back when Charlie scores the winning ticket? Obviously a reference to Dahl.
Someone also said they saw Kerry on the $10 bill Charlie found…. have to check for myself.
Augustus Gloop banging on the little window as the chocolate comes in and waves him away is a possible Buried Alive reference.
There were several “cannibalism” references that point to the Hannibal Lector series (even young Wonka’s braces look familiar). Wouldn’t be suprising, seeing as Burton is a fan, and Elfman scored Red Dragon.
…and many more.

ParticipantI went twice. First time it was mostly young couples (early 20’s). I’m 27, and I went with my wife to IMAX on opening weekend (Sat. 7pm).
Second time, it was alot of parents with their young kids… average age of kids: 6 – 15. That time I went at 5pm on Friday, and I took my nephews.
Kipobe
ParticipantI’ve seen pretty much only good reviews. I did see a negative review by a fan on Amazon.com, but he was too tied to the original and had no concept of what this film was about. He even attacked the lyrics which, as we know, were written by Dahl.
Great stuff!!
Kipobe
ParticipantCongratulations Elfman!… You deserve this, and much more!
Kipobe
ParticipantYeah, I’m the same way… I don’t wanna know.

Kipobe
ParticipantWhoa… now it’s #92? This is amazing! Brilliant work, Elfman! Brilliant.
Some other big scores from Elfman in comparison:
Batman — #2,651
Nightmare Before Christmas — #2,296
Edward Scissorhands — #2,749The Spidey movies are in the 3 and 4k’s.
As a comparison as well, Batman Begins is at #80 — the biggest soundtrack of the year. I’m sure Chocolate Factory can surpass this!

Kipobe
ParticipantAny word on if it’ll come on again? What exactly was it called? What was number one?
Thanks!
Kipobe
ParticipantWow! Thanks Aki…. I don’t suppose you could explain what you mean by the ending being a little weird without using any spoilers, could you please? I won’t get to see the film until Saturday unfortunately.
Is the ending “good” weird, or “bad” weird?
Kipobe
ParticipantWhoa! Thanks a helluva lot Ryan. Sounds great… can’t wait for the review!
Kipobe
ParticipantWell anyway, this news (as hard as it is to swallow…. I’ve been in denile for months…) comes on the heels of a great day! Tommorow I will be listening to Chocolate Factory all the way through. This bad news couldn’tve come at a better time.
Thanks for small mercies!
