I liked what David Arnold did with Casino Royale as well. But some parts remind me of Die Another Day .Especially the music for the beach scene. Some cues on the CD shouldn’t have been on it. A lot that was tension music or whatever for example, the poker scenes. Which works better on film than on CD. Another thing that bothers me is that he said in an interview back in “05” or “06” on the CR score, “New Bond. New sound.” I really didn’t feel that. He just wrote a new theme for a new Bond and not something completely NEW.
I’m still for Elfman for scoring a Bond movie or writing and performing a Bond song.BTW, that’s funny to have mention this b/c one of those video interviews Elfman did a week or two ago asked what genre he would like to tackle that he hasn’t already tackled.A Bond movie is a genre of it’s own. So don’t say he already tackle a spy movie, e.g. Mission Impossible.
lonzoeParticipantI thought the same thing when i heard Wanted. I think the score could really benefit Daniel Craig’s Bond movies b/c his Bond has a lot of energy and so does Elfman’s Wanted score and many of his other scores. This is the real reason why I thought he should score a Bond movie after listening to Wanted. The Little Things . Imagine Elfman writing and performing a song for a Bond movie. That would be a first and AMAZING.
lonzoeParticipantI really enjoyed Danny’s narration especially for Closing. Where he use his jack voice at the end . I laughed and had chills at the same time off of that. Elfman IS Jack Skellington. I agree with those who dislike the Town Meeting Song. It was drawn out. It almost hurt the album for me. It reminded of that children chant from The Lost Boys movie and the song at the end of Childs Play in some parts. That’s not a compliment. I liked the instrumental ones a lot. I smile when hear the themes and think to myself they really want to prove how much they were inspired by that score.
Anybody else laughed at the cue To the Rescue the part where Oogie Boogie turned some object around and saw a p–sed off Jack sitting on it. They kept playing that beat over and over. It made me laugh. Plus I like techno music. So that was interesting blending techno with a score like TNBC.

What about the Spiderman scores he composed, Red Dragon (Masterpiece, IMO) Hulk, Big Fish (another masterpiece,IMO), CATCF, Corpse Bride, Charlottes Web. I didn’t put MIIB in there because it not everyones liking. Eventhough I enjoyed the heck out of it when I first got it. I still do enjoy it but I haven’t heard it for a few months. I agree 2008 is a BRILLIANT year for Elfman and us Elfmanites. This year reminds me of 02′ when Elfman had three eagerly anticipated movies. Spidey1,MIIB, and Red Dragon.of course. All were great scores ,IMO. And believe it to and still do believe it to be a great year for Elfman.

Almost sounded like it was copied and pasted in the score in some parts. Of this decade maybe even ever is the only time I’ve been disappointed by an Elfman score as much as I hate to admit it. But MTR does grow me on repeated listenings. The Kingdom I have to disagree with. I think the score was a bold move for Elfman. I think he chose to do that project because of all the fantasy kids movies he’s been scoring at the time and wanted to go with a different genre. Theres no other way to score The Kingdom but the direction Elfman went with, IMO. The Kingdom is one of those scores where I get hungry for more and more. It’s a very underrated score. I think a lot of people hate it because of how synth heavy it is. But I love it when Elfman challenges himself and make ballsy moves like that.
lonzoeParticipantThanks. I just realized that when I was checking info about the score and the director was mentioned. Thanks. I knew I spelled his name wrong. I guess that’s what happens when you care more about the score than you do the movie. Huh. I’m still not thrilled about the movie.
lonzoeParticipantHe’ll jump through hoops for T. Moore(sp?). He forgot to add Tim. Anyways cool vid.
lonzoeParticipantWell I guess that makes Zimmer generic then.
Oh yeah it is.
lonzoeParticipantThis is a link to a message board on the HB2 site and it has users talking about the score for it. Del Toro stops by and gives some news about the score it’s old but still. I thought you guys would like to know how the score’s going so far.
P.S. If you don’t want to read all the comments. Del Toro is the tenth comment.

2007 was more of a laid back year but still good none the less yeah Meet the Robinsons was somewhat of a disappoint in my eyes because one of the themes reminds me too much of Corpse Bride but it grows on repeated listenings. I believe the underrated The Kingdom was great. I can’t get enough of it. I think about that score almost everyday since I bought it back in January . That’s how good it is to me. That’s why I can’t wait for Wanted (the score I don’t give a crap about the butchered Jolie action bulet time crap fest that resembles the comics in name only) because he using synth but more orchestra. I might get the score without even looking at the movie usually I do the opposite so I know whats going on during the cue. Yep 2008 definitely looks like an EXCELLENT year for Elfman and Elfmanites.
lonzoeParticipantGreat another Depp/Burton movie that’s based off something !!!
lonzoeParticipantI wasn’t impressed with this trailer. It looks like a run of the mill comic book action movie. Abomination looks fake. It looks like it’s about Bruce Banner on the run from the army for most of the movie.Like the tv show. This preview made me question is the hulk character really interesting to make a film out of? Since a lot of people hated the last one. This one looks like 90 -100 minute action movie in the vein of Fantastic Four ,Daredevil, and Elektra. It might be the weakest comic book movie this summer. I’m still looking foward to Armstrong’s score. Hopefully the next trailer is A LOT better.
lonzoeParticipantI wasn’t impressed with the NEW ,as well as the OLD,Wanted Trailer. The movie took to many liberties from the comic for the wrong reasons. The only thing I’m interested in in Wanted is Elfman’s score. Before I found out about Elfman scoring this I didn’t give a you know what about it. Jolie needs to stick to her Humanitarian business. All the action hero roles she plays are no different than her last. IMO,of course.
lonzoeParticipantI agree with those who enjoyed The Kingdom. I think that is a very underrated score and really worked in the film. There was no other way to score that film but that way. I wish I had the Proof of Life score. I’m still kicking myself for picking Lost in Space CD with the various artists accompanying Bruce Broughton’s score over Proof of Life. Especially since I heard the expanded score that Intrada produced was better. Now I think Proof of Life is out of print. I really enjoy Elfman’s work. I always welcome Elfman getting out of his comfort zone and pushing himself.

>I agree about Batman. Beetlejuice not so much. 37 minutes with 7 minutes being Belafonte songs. 30 minutes being Elfman’s edited music. So an expanded CD is DEFINITELY needed IMO. Sorry.

Elfman also won’t be scoring Hancock. Jon Powell will be. Any ways I’m interested to see what Armstrong comes up with since it’s going to be MORE action packed.
lonzoeParticipantI have Mission Impossible, Men In Black 1and 2, Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes, Spiderman 1 and 2, Red Dragon, Hulk, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Serenada Schizophrana, TNBC Two Disc CD,Charlottes Web, Meet The Robinsons, and The (underrated) Kingdom. Those are the ones i had from 1996 -today. I wish i had Proof of Life but I believe that’s OOP. At least in the stores by where I stay at. I also updated the other post I wrote because I forgot to add Flubber, and the end credits he made for the Psycho remake. We need to make a petition for another MFADT cd. It’s been way too long since the last one. 12 years !!! I’m tired of waiting for it. Elfman deserves another one. Anybody have any ideas to get another cd out and to get Elfman’s agent and the record company who produce the cds attention. Please share. Thanks.
P.S. Does Richard Kraft read message boards on this website ?
lonzoeParticipantThat’s funny because he doesn’t CONDUCT any of his scores.Just one scene from Charlotte’s Web. Yet they show him conducting BEETLEJUICE-ESQUE music. That joke would’ve worked better if they were SPOOOFING a superhero movie. It should’ve been Zimmer they decapitated since he and his MV/RC crew are doing a lot of the BIG Hollywood movies now and days. By the way I’m not a Zimmer basher. I enjoed his Pacific Heights, Gladiator, Hannibal, Davinci Code, and some parts of his Batman Begins scores.
lonzoeParticipantI don’t care I still want to buy his score for this movie, eventhough I haven’t seen it yet. Plus I don’t have a problem with his electronic and synthesized scores. I enjoyed POTA and Hulk a great deal. I think that’s good he tries to step out of his comfort zone in movies like A Simple Plan, A Civil Action, Instinct, and Proof of Life. I’m still looking for the Proof of LIfe CD. I’m glad he tackled something like this instead of a PG or G rated movie for the past two years. The movie looks interesting as well.
