KeymasterDamn, I missed that end bit! Too much Coke to drink…

KeymasterI just saw the excellent CORALINE today and I don’t hear any similarities in Bruno Coulais’ equally excellent score to anything Danny Elfman has done.

KeymasterPlease don’t link to YouTube videos that infringe on copyrights. On a personal level, I hate YouTube and their two-faced approach to dealing with this issue!

KeymasterKipobe — thanks for the feedback. I’m currently redesigning the whole site, top to bottom. Perhaps after that is completed I can look into updating the forum. Right now I like its simplicity, but it could use some improvements. Stay tuned!

KeymasterThis remix is by Lucian Piane, who worked as Marc Shaiman’s assistant for a few years. I met him and never would have thought he’d be doing stuff like this and producing RuPaul’s next album. Lucian’s a quiet and calm guy!

KeymasterThere’s none of those people here because I ban them pretty f’n quick! A few have tried, but none have succeeded. Banning an IP is a wonderful thing!

KeymasterI have no problems with John Williams. Love the guy and his music. It’s the people at JWFan board. They’re fucking insane and hate everything!

KeymasterEw, JWFan? Gross!

KeymasterJust saw this at Wired.com today:
Machine Music: “I wanted the sound of the resistance to be very delicate, reminiscent of Gustavo Santaolalla’s analog guitar, so I thought of putting Gustavo together with Thom Yorke of Radiohead for the machine sound,” said McG. “But their schedules were too tough, so then Danny Elfman articulated his sonic vision for the picture. He’s a huge Terminator fan. I wish I could show you his house. Elfman lives in a haunted house that has strange prosthetic limbs from the turn of the century hanging on the wall.”

KeymasterIt’s a great interview. Only once do they sort of get into the standard background stories, but otherwise it’s interesting to hear more music Elfman enjoys.

KeymasterThere’s always the likelihood that Elfman will work with Del Toro on the Universal monster movies, but he is not scoring THE HOBBIT.

KeymasterHELLBOY II is one of those scores that is brilliant on another level — the Elfman Level, as I’ll call it. The expansive orchestral writing (in the last 3rd of the album particularly) is really something to behold. If you’d only heard the score within the film you’d be missing it’s considerable charms, as the mix is terrible. I think perhaps the addition of one or two of those mini HB fanfares might have put the album really over the top, but as it is, it’s one of the best fantasy efforts of the year, easily.

KeymasterNick – you are free to post whatever you like. Start a DARKMAN thread for instance! When the new version of the site launches you’ll be able to post comments on each page. So for ex. you could post your thoughts on DARKMAN and hopefully other folks would join in. I imagine it’ll be a great way to start up specific conversations — and a headache for me to admin!

KeymasterOf course I bought it. Lots of thoughts here about the release news:

KeymasterLOVE the movie — one of my favorites of all-time. Really nailed the psychological aspect of a “hero” and his act of vengeance.
The score is simply brilliant, and with all the additional extras, probably wouldn’t run longer than an hour — but there IS some great stuff missing, particularly the opening scene where Durant’s gang arrives at Eddie Black’s warehouse. Great cue!!

KeymasterI said “girls” Nick. Unless you are such a FOB fan that your personal style has rendered your gender undeterminable!

KeymasterThey have those shows — and they blow too. They’re called the People’s Choice Awards, MTV Awards, etc. etc.

KeymasterSLUMDOG will cancel itself out thanks to a “Best Song” win.

KeymasterThe New Regency logo music is actually from the SOMMERSBY score. I believe you can hear/see the logo at the beginning of THE NEGOTIATOR.

KeymasterMarco was being asked directly about TERMINATOR, so what makes you think his comment is re: HELLBOY 2?
Ryan Keaveney
KeymasterMarco’s scored more sequels than any composer I know: UNDERWORLD 2, THE CROW 3, TERMINATOR 3, DIE HARD 4, BLADE 2, XXX 2. So if anyone knows sloppy seconds…
Ryan Keaveney
KeymasterWhat’s in it for Danny Elfman to copy a temp track? He’s walked away from big movies before because of that. I don’t see him reversing the trend.
Ryan Keaveney
KeymasterWow, you beat me to it by like 10 minutes!

I voted for these, btw. Some of my picks made it, others did not. No further comment.
