ParticipantHere’s some samples from Young’s Ghost Rider:
Judging from these samples — and yes, I agree that you shouldn’t judge an entire score on little snippets — this is a dud.
Elfman’s new themes best be good.

ParticipantWhat I was shocked to discover was that Herrmann scored it…
It’s funny that you know On Dangerous Ground from its director rather than its composer, considering that it’s the great Bernard Herrmann.
The full score was released by Film Score Monthly not long ago. The best piece in the film, “The Death Hunt” is featured on the CD by Charles Gerhardt and The National Philharminic Orchestra; “Citezen Kane: The Classic Film Scores of Bernard Herrmann.” I think it may be out of print, but well worth finding.
I challenge anyone here to find that album. The Death Hunt is one of the greatest action cues I’ve ever heard. Fans of Elfman should grab his stuff wherever they can find it.

ParticipantThanks for posting this.

ParticipantUnfortunately the Academy is becoming more and more “Artsy” with their pics. They want movies that are more groundbreaking now…
I know. Maybe Hollywood should start making their films more groundbreaking then?

Participant…Goldsmith didn’t like a whole helluva lot of anything.
He enjoys reusing his themes from Patton whenever he gets the chance.

Participant“It’s a metaphor for how somebody who’s on top can stumble and lose sight of those things which are important and fall into a darkness, a blackness of the heart.”
Irony!

ParticipantFYI – if that was posted on this board than they were probably referring to the cues that Elfman wrote — “Doc Ock Is Born” and “Train / Appreciation” — that are actually on Elfman’s score CD.
And, despite Young’s talent, was better.

ParticipantWow. Here are two firsts: not only is a film critic actually commenting on a film score, but, apparently, the score wasn’t mixed softly.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantBut did Elfman “turn down” DOGMA…
According to Kevin Smith on the Dogma commentary.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantAnother annotate, Danny Elfman turned down Dogma.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantThat’s cool, but is Danny Elfman even involved with the project anymore?
TenderLumpling
ParticipantWow, the sweet stuff is truly Elfman’s bread and butter… if you don’t mind me mixing my metaphors. No one quite writes music like this. Lovely stuff.

ParticipantHere’s another parody:

ParticipantIs Danny gonna be coming back for Spidey 3?
Elfman will be writing new theme’s. Bet your lifesaving’s on it!
TenderLumpling
ParticipantThey should just use the temp track. I know Sam wants to, and it’ll save them money, to boot.
TenderLumpling
Participant…it’s Michael Giacchino who deserves it most.
What about John Barry? As I understand it, John Barry was once attached to The Incredibles, but his demo tracks were rejected for whatever reason. Maybe because Barry wasn’t interested in copying himself.

ParticipantI wonder what a Danny Elfman James Bond score would sound like? Imagine an ultra retro Ellington/Barry amalgamation, complete with old school xylophones, and less-is-more woodwinds and brass?
Yeah, that’s the stuff.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantMan those effects look crusty.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantFrom what I understand, no music label wishes to issue Darkened Theater 3 at this time. Isn’t that what Elfman said during his recent AOL online chat?

ParticipantJust saw Sleepy Hollow last night, and I love that unreleased music after Jonathan Masbath’s funeral. That cello bass beat is really soulful.
Also, I noticed that they tracked the music when the bogus horsemen chased Ichabod into the hollow over when the real horsemen chased Baltus into the church.
At any event, I love the Sleepy Hollow main theme. One of Elfman’s best. It’s a long-lined melody, which he really hasn’t done in a while.

ParticipantLast night’s Leno always airs the next night on the Canadian station Star (think E! north of the border). I’ll tape the show and try to get it on YouTube the next day.
Give us a link once you do, please.

ParticipantSo Elfman’s writing nothing for Sweeney Todd? Bloody hell.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantOn your site, where on earth did that Alexander Nevsky recording come from?
TenderLumpling
ParticipantNot necessarily. He could have said it with a wink in his eye and a slight sense of irony. Hard to tell.
Or maybe he didn’t say anything at all.
