ParticipantOoo, very nice. Sign me up!
TenderLumpling
ParticipantIt’s funny, the plot of the movie is a lot like the Green Hornet comic series that Kevin Smith is writing. I always kinda assumed that his comic is an adaptation of his unproduced Green Hornet script, this trailer may confirm my suspicions.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantHa, ha. This is the only movie missing from your Potential Work For Elfman thread.
Apparently Paul Higgis is on Elfman’s “directors I want to work with list.” Makes sense. I’d have him on my list too.
Now, I, myself, know little about this movie, but given Elfman’s recent track record (e.g., Alice, Wolfman, Terminator) this score will no doubt be unmelodic and dull.
TenderLumpling
Participant*Ahem.* If you youtube “Kick Ass Score Track 13 Walk To Rasul’s” you will hear the Elfman music.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI don’t think they’ll be hiring a big name composer for the Ninja Turtle movie.
That said, Michael Bay, huh? I can’t wait to see how he objectifies April O’Neal.

ParticipantGoing down, down, down…
TenderLumpling
ParticipantMmm-hmm. She is lovely. I can see how Juno got pregnant so fast.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantWhen was Danny a music hugger?
Oh no, I’m saying they’re bitter that he always gets high-profile scores. For example, he is the musical darling in the super hero realm.
I liked the Sherlock Homes score, as well. Very tuneful.
Danny even acknowledged in an interview that Hans Zimmer was right to credit everyone in the music creation process.
And he should, too!
TenderLumpling
ParticipantDoes Hans Zimmer need to compose every darn movies these days?
It’s funny, that’s exactly what the Elfman-haters say about Danny.
I don’t think Danny would have had very much freedom under Nolan’s watch, considering all of his movie’s have very similar scores. At any event, the trailer looks great.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantYeah, they’ll probably go for the original Jerry Goldsmith score.
Man, I don’t think any director today would buy into that Goldsmith score. It’s way too progressive. How ironic…
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI would check out Prokofiev for other Elfman infuences.
There’s a little Alexander Nevsky in The Frighteners.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantIf so, it will be the first time Elfman completes a trilogy on “his own”.
Ha. After many years of trying, yes.
I just hope the humor in this new one doesn’t fall flat like the second one.
Then again, we got Men in Black lounge music in the last one, so I can’t complain too much.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantWeren’t the South Park guys referencing themselves with that Burton snipe, since they were rehashing all their old ideas in that episode?
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI believe Mali Elfman is Danny’s daughter.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantFor example, I’m pretty sure what attracted elfman in a project like Flubber was more the “mambo-like” ideas, than the movie itself.
Certainly. Plus, Danny had a three-picture deal with Disney at that time.
I’m pretty sure Elfman would have awesome ideas for a Twilight movie, no matter what the movie looks like…
Remember that he worked with Peter Jackson on the Frighteners simply because he wanted to collaborate with that director…Because of Heavenly Creatures, if I recall. Danny does that with many of his movies. It certainly explains why he’d score Terminator Salvation.
As a composer, I totally see how someone could me musically inspired by a project, even if the movie itself isn’t that good…
Well, like I said, Danny loves working with Gus; however, I don’t see Gus Van Sant taking the job. It would be interesting though. Gus really lets Danny run wild.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantSo… will every Twilight film have a different main theme?
Now, I’m not going to speak for Elfman, however, knowing his tastes, I bet he thinks these movies are immeasurably stupid. That said, he *loves* working with Gus.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantA friend of mine wrote this. There’s a cute little Elfman reference. Thought some might find it amusing.

March 18, 2010 at 9:22 pm in reply to: Tim Burton directing stop-motion Addam’s Family movie. #65278TenderLumpling
ParticipantI’m happy that he’s really been hitting the stop motion, again.
I love those old Adam’s Family drawings; I can see that Burton was inspired by them.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI thought Truman Capote passed on?
TenderLumpling
ParticipantUm, Weepy Donuts? Come on, guys!
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI love the Scrooged/Pee-wee riff that child-Danny sings. (I’m sure that’s how all Elfman haters hear his music.)
Some amusing Burton film stereotypes there, but in actuality, Burton’s films these days are far less predictable, thematically, than they where in the past.
And for the record, studios come to him to do the remakes, not the other way around!
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI’m sold. Give scoring duties to Elfman!
TenderLumpling
ParticipantWell, I’m more interested in looking at a debate where people dump on the movie that they haven’t even seen yet.
That’s easy to find
Ha, ha. Indeed. Any suggestions?

ParticipantIt’s funny, when Seann William Scott had his house displayed on MTV Cribs, he had a signed Nightmare Before Christmas poster (by Danny and Tim, I believe) in his livingroom. Clearly, he’s a fan.
