ParticipantEpisode # 25: The 10 Best Scores of 2014 (9th International Edition)
Our, i.e. my, selection of the ten best scores of the year. Have a listen…it’s less than an hour of your time.

PLAYLIST:
Nope, not giving anything away. You’ll have to listen.
But I think this crowd will be particularly pleased about which score is on 1st place!

Thor
ParticipantHaven’t yet sought it out, but then again I was never a big fan of the film in the first place.
Strange that there is no Elfman interviews on the extra material. A missed opportunity!
Thanks for the mini-review, though.
Thor
ParticipantI haven’t been this excited about a Burton film in ages. What a thrill it will be to see him operate in a more realistic environment (BIG FISH-style).
October 8, 2014 at 3:45 pm in reply to: Danny Elfman reads NIGHTMARE in front of Haunted Mansion #68036Thor
ParticipantHe’s so skinny these days. What happened to the ‘buffed-up’ Danny from a few years ago?
Thor
ParticipantLooks great!
Thor
ParticipantTheme-wise, he’s explored this territory with HEARTBREAKERS (although he only wrote the theme) and FREEWAY. But not quite like this, for sure.
Thor
ParticipantIt was THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS that made me an Elfman fan, but BATMAN was a fairly early discovery too.
Thor
ParticipantI don’t feel comfortable updating this thread for every new episode I do, since it’s not only about Danny Elfman, but this time it should be of interest to you, at least for Ryan who I know is a fellow fan:
Celluloid Tunes # 17: Elliot Goldenthal (5th International Edition)
An episode dedicated to one of my favourite composers. Also includes several interview excerpts that I did in Ghent in 2010, and Krakow in 2012. The episode is in English.

ParticipantI dig the score, both in and out of the movie!
The film itself is uneven, however — the script and acting are all over the place, while the action sequences are wonderful (great use of bullet time).

ParticipantStrange criticism indeed.
Been listening to this lately. It’s really a gorgeous score — his best since PROMISED LAND.
Thor
ParticipantI received mine today. It has the dog on the front cover. What silly packaging — cardboard box with a friggin’ colour book for kids? WTF!? Reminds me of the THE LOST WORLD packaging from 1997.
Thor
ParticipantGreat news, thanks!

ParticipantI don’t buy CD’s anymore, except in the case of Elfman, Goldenthal and Williams (as far as film composers are concerned).
However, I’ll take this in any form, just as long as it goes out. I absolutely the adore the small clips we’ve heard so far.
Thor
ParticipantHope it stays available untill I get my pc back. Ordering with a tablet sucks. But great news it is.
Thor
ParticipantVery interesting assignment, even though I have no connection to the book (beyond all the hooplah it’s created in the media).

PLAYLIST:
Nope. You’ll have to play the episode to hear my selections. Maybe later on — once the surprise element has passed — I’ll post in the playlist here.
Thor
ParticipantI downloaded it from iTunes awhile back. It’s pretty nice…wish there were a brief score release a la SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK.
Thor
ParticipantI can finally throw away my ol CD-R of the promo. Great news!

Thor
ParticipantDid Elfman sing like he did in London?
That was one of my most awesome concert memories ever.

ParticipantPS. Let me know if you find these updates with new Celluloid Tunes episodes annoying. I could just post updates whenever I feature Elfman-related material.

ParticipantYes, great news. I’ve had the RESTLESS suite for some time (basically copied from the film’s website, running in the background), but it was about time it got a proper release. This is the particular Elfman sound I prefer these days. I already have TAKING WOODSTOCK, but maybe I can give it to someone else for free.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to order before it sells out.
Thor
ParticipantDammit, I missed that. Feel free to delete this one, Ryan.
