Pushing it from March to the summer?

    That’s a good sign.

Spider-Fan, you never got to tell exactly at what point in the movie this “Setting Down MJ” cue plays. I really want to know!

Also, I’m really curious to know who wrote [or adapted] the SM theme in the Crane Disaster sequence. Yes, it might sound like a rehash of the Main Titles, but I really love how big and bombastic it sounds.

That was the best scene [after the Sandman transformation] in an otherwise craptacular and disappointing film.

I guess this answers that question that’s been asked many times:

As you’re composing, are you playing it right into the computer or writing it out?
No, I stopped writing it out about 12 years ago. At that point in my life, a conductor I was working with said, ‘You know, you’re killing yourself because you’re doing everything twice.’ Every part of every instrument was going into my performance that the director was hearing, and then once it was approved I would write it all out. And that would take another eight hours. There was a point where I was working 16 hours a day, every day. It was crazy. So, when I got to the realization that all I was doing is transcribing my performance onto paper, not adding anything, I decided to try MIDI notation. And the 16 hours a day went down to 10 every day. And I can even take 1/2 a day off on Sunday now. (Laughs) That was another life-changing bit of technology.

Are there any composers working today other than Williams and maybe Howard Shore that write their music down on paper?

Wow, if you’d told me Elfman wrote this, I’d believe it!

Scroll down to mp3 extracts and listen to sample 2 and tell me if that doesn’t sound like Pee Wee!

“Another reason I know so is because I have a copy of the score”

    Lucky SOB!

Now this cue “Setting MJ Down”, where does it play exactly? I really don’t remember it and it is quite good.

    Really?

I’ve heard the Main Titles of the first and second film more times than I’d dare to admit, and I have never ever noticed that note.

I noticed it immediately while watching the 3rd film, because I’m so used to the music that that little note being changed took me out of the film.

WOW, thanks a lot for that, SF!

I was just listening to the Main Titles again, and the only thing I like about them is the percussion Young used during the Marvel Logo.

The addition of his themes is absolutely horrific and how they felt the need to exclude the statement of the responsibility theme at the end…no words.

And is it me, or does it sound like a smaller orchestra was used? The statement of the theme that starts at 1:06 [my favorite] sounds tiny. the brass is supposed to be in your face [the last 4 notes, in particular], not to sound so anemic.

Oh, I also like the changed note in 2:41-2:42. At first I found it distracting, but now I like it.

The film’s still a turd. What a mess.

I just saw the film and I can confirm that music from Nightmare is in it.

It’s played in the scene where Moore goes into a british public hospital and he’s told everything’s free.

    Nice.

I think Meet The Robinsons is the only Elfman score I dislike.

I find it hilarious that we’re all trashing Young’s score while over at the filmscoremonthly boards most people are praising it.

I guess we know better :highhorse:

Yes, the Titles are a mess, but I really like the feet stomping percussion during the Marvel logo.

Did anyone else think that the Main Titles were mixed extremely LOW, except for the section with Chris Young’s new themes?

I have to say I rather liked that percussion he used during the Marvel logo that sounded like feet stomping.

I sat frozen on my seat when it ended. I didn’t want to move waiting for something else to happen, because THAT couldn’t be the ending. I mean, really.

The movie was a mess, the music was an absolute mess, the Sandman theme was good, but that Black Suit theme was distracting because it sounded nothing like the rest of the music.

I’ve never been this disappointed since The Phantom Menace.

And Spider-Fan, you took every word out of my mouth too. I agree with everything you said: Too many characters given nothing to do, cringe-inducing singing and dancing by every single cast member and ridiculous memory loss and butlerclearseverythingupatthelastminute devices.

UGH, I fuming because I really wanted to love this film, but it was impossible!

I just want to know how close to Elfman’s music the Main Titles and the music of the last swinging scene are.

After Pan’s Labyrinth, I can see why any composer would jump at the chance of working with Del Toro.

I loved Javier Navarrete’s score for that film, but that is the kind of project Elfman should be working on.

I’ve been watching that Crane Disaster clip non stop and I’m convinced that’s not even a new recording of the Main Titles. They just edited out the percussion and sped it up. I wonder if that’s one of the parts of the film assigned to Bartek to work Elfman’s music into.

Lazy, but I still like it ;)

Guys, you may say I’m on crack, but although it sounds like a copy/paste of the main titles without the percussion, I LOVE that rendition of the Spider Man theme, and that he made such a BIG statement of it during a moment like that left me with a huge grin.

I can not wait to see the film.

AICN has two VERY positive reviews up [avoid them, they’re both riddled with spoilers] and look what one of them says:

    http://www.aintitcool.com/node/32293

“A BRIEF RUNDOWN: Main titles begin, same flipping marvel logo, same brilliant Elfman theme (this time composed by Chris Young, but more on that later).”

“The score of the film by Chris Young is more of the same; he basically rehashes Elfman’s themes, and makes new themes for new characters. His new themes are good, and Sandman’s in particular is quite catchy and similar to Ocks, but they probably are not as good as if Elfman had done them, but the score doesn’t disappoint if you liked it the first 2 times around.”

If you see the trailer for the DVD you’ll notice SEVERAL new shots from the train sequence. Checking on amazon, this new release will have 8 minutes of new footage.

I wonder WHAT music will be playing during all that footage.

    Wow, that was amazing.

Makes me wonder if the problems between Raimi and him had already started by the time that was recorded, as Elfman looks very relaxed and glad to be there.
