ParticipantI’m confident enough in Burton that he won’t get involved in Beetlejuice 2 if the script isn’t good.

ParticipantYeah, July 2015 sounds a bit optimistic…but really happy with this. Two original projects in a row without the regular cast where what Burton needed.

ParticipantI’m getting a Simpsons feel out of this…
DannyBiker
ParticipantI still have them actually, I could share them with you guys. Maybe I’ll work on updated versions of better quality…
DannyBiker
ParticipantOh right, I forgot about that one !

ParticipantHonestly, 10 years later, watching Spider-Man 2 is still an ordeal, having heard the complete original score. Some temp-track uses are bearable but others makes literally no-sense both thematically or musically (namely “Spider Fall” and “On the Case” which are both better versions with no discussion possible). I always feel that instead of taking the time to confront every original cue to its temp track, they just exported the temp track all together once Elfman left the project, only leaving what he wrote that got somehow approved. Dead lines I guess…
I even remember making videos of the Elfman rejected score added to the film but I had to take them down…

ParticipantI’m listening but on holiday soon…

ParticipantThat Main Title changed my life in a way. I think musically at least. I still think it’s one of the most perfect piece written both in terms of melody and orchestrations. I still discover new things even though I must I’ve heard a thousand times (and it’s not expression).
As of now, Danny Elfman’s music is the only one I still purchase on CD; it might sound trivial but nowadays, it means something.
I hope we got many more years of his talent down our ears.

ParticipantThat’s even stranger, because Zimmer works mainly before the editing process, by creating musical suites based on the script, what he knows of the movie and the images he gets of it : then, his additional composers come and rearrange the suites in order to correspond with precise passages of the movie. Sometimes it’s just editing, sometimes it’s arranging, and sometimes they have to write some new material. wrote:Oh man, it’s so wrong to do that. It’s completely missing the point of film scoring if you ask me.
I think I’ll become a painter. I’ll buy the frame and pick the colours that shall be used and then hand them to my team. Even in the Renaissance they didn’t go so far…

ParticipantI heard even Batman didn’t enjoy it.
DannyBiker
ParticipantYes and I can’t wait for the redesign !
Just kidding but I still think that a wiki for some of the contents and a newer board system than “Phorum” with a few members as mods would help to have this place a bit more clean and alive without asking too much time on your part Ryan. I don’t have much either but I could always clean ad messages from bots and write a few contents from time to time.

ParticipantOh man, it was removed. Any mirror ?
Actually…Try Google’s cache…

ParticipantGreat, I was already excited; now I’m super-excited.

ParticipantIf they go with an original score, I don’t see why Elfman wouldn’t be hired…
DannyBiker
ParticipantI guess I just don’t have the same standards when it comes to film music…to me, what Zimmer “composes” is pure crap. Something anyone with basic knowledge of a sequencer can achieve.
DannyBiker
ParticipantYeah, I’m kinda disappointed myself, especially since it’s supposed to be a “smaller” film and that Elfman don’t have much film projects coming on. I’m also surprised that the score is apparently already recorded while we are still more than 6 months away from the release date…
DannyBiker
ParticipantI’m quite positive it won’t be selected after all…because it didn’t.
But it looks like it will go for the award seasons with a release around the end of the year.

ParticipantGot Pharaoh Peabody from Amazon UK. I ain’t collecting them though…
DannyBiker
ParticipantMy Amazon UK copy is on its way, with Peabody/Sherman…
Also, that score was incredibly cheap for such a recent release…
DannyBiker
ParticipantYeah, that’s what I’d understand as well but it’s an ambiguous formulation.
Anyway, he tends to be very clear about additional composers in general. These are the additional composers imdb is listing : Chris Bacon, Peter Bateman, Paul Mounsey and John Ashton Thomas. Also, Elfman’s style for animated features tends to be very mickey-mousing (not to say “wall to wall”) and I think it’s an exhausting kind of composing where you can’t just say, when you’re running out of time, “I’ll loop or extend this part and slightly re-orchestrate it”. It has to be follow the action very closely.
DannyBiker
ParticipantI can’t buy Danny Elfman…
DannyBiker
ParticipantI can’t help to feel cheated whenever Elfman hires additional composers, although I know it’s a necessity sometimes.
I guess I couldn’t be a Zimmer fan…March 16, 2014 at 8:48 pm in reply to: “Elfman’s music of Burton” concert now in Switzerland, along with “Alice in Wonderland” screening with LIVE ORCHESTRA #67811DannyBiker
ParticipantVery cool indeed. I’m even more bitter that I can’t attend…

ParticipantHowever, mp3’s sometimes allow some score to actually get a release they would never have got on a physical support…
DannyBiker
ParticipantCool…I’m quite positive they’ll attempt a Cannes selection.
