“Our American title will feature the music for an intimate drama about the hardships of facing your own true self and realizing your full potential. The work of two upcoming screenwriters, this film took the awards circuit by surprise and we’re really proud to premiere the complete score, including five songs also featured on the soundtrack.”

ParticipantHere’s the track that plays over the Dreamworks logo.

ParticipantSaw the movie just there, lots of fun and genuinely hilarious. There are two themes, one for Peabody and one for Sherman, that are used extensively. The score is omnipresent with a lot of mickey mousing. Not a major Elfman score by any means but there should certainly be a solid 40 minute album out of it.
Elfman’s cue for the Dreamworks logo, a mini-suite of the Peabody theme, is really awesome.

ParticipantI seem to remember Van Sant saying that he was done with his more experimental film making. His last three films have had Elfman scores despite the big drought beforehand which I think supports that.

ParticipantMovie sounds terrific and should certainly have a great score. Could/should be a big awards contender.

ParticipantTrailer features Elfman score and it sounds terrific. It’s being released in April so hopefully a score release around then.

ParticipantSaw the movie which was great.
Outside of the Irving cue, which is a lot different in the movie than on the album, the score seemed mostly non-existent. It’s great that Elfman’s name is attached to such a good movie but it seemed like a bit of a waste.

ParticipantAlbum is coming, in the UK at least. It’s getting released a month earlier overseas so makes sense.

ParticipantThis movie is filled with amazing source music, but it also features a score by Danny Elfman.
It’s a very source-based movie but he did some amazing, key pieces of music, as he did with “Silver Livings Playbook.”
Is it true that Chris Tucker set you up?
Wow. That’s the first time I’ve heard that. Why does Chris Tucker know Danny Elfman?
Because of “Dead Presidents.”
Well, I love Chris and Chris might have had a role in there, but I don’t know. I honestly can’t remember.
Is Elfman someone who you’re looking to re-team with?
Well, I want to re-team with both: I want to work with Chris Tucker again and Elfman is now definitely a part of our process. We have a team that has a rhythm and we always end up in Danny’s studio. We took all this source music, and he knew it was going to be very source-y. But he very brilliantly put in the first score that starts the picture, when Irving leaves the suite to chase the mayor. It’s a perfect bit of score that fits the rest of the movie and the craziness that’s going on inside of these people. And he does that a bunch of times.

ParticipantAh yes, that makes sense. I don’t expect it to get award attention but was just curious.
Unfortunately The Unknown Known didn’t make the Best Documentary shortlist so the release probably isn’t coming anytime soon, which in turn would delay a CD of the score.

ParticipantI’m curious as to why the score wasn’t eligible for an Oscar nomination? I never would have expected it to get nominated but other scores for documentaries are eligible.

ParticipantNominated for an Annie award.

ParticipantSony have a FYC for Elfman on their website. An indicator of a longer score or are they just promoting everything?

ParticipantThe Silver Linings release came from nowhere I think so there’s hope.

ParticipantSoundtrack album features one Elfman track, which can be sampled here.

ParticipantThe ‘Horn of Plenty’ melody was by Arcade Fire, would have loved to have seen what Elfman would have done with it though JNH’s take was the highlight of that score. Their song Abraham’s Daughter is aces too.
