ParticipantI have the Original OST (#1).
Leccathu
ParticipantHuh! I wouldn’t have even considered Up and Out and The River Cruise to be songs to shoot fireworks by. oO I truly am surprised!! Was the music altered in any way to become more ‘fireworks-worthy’? oO
*stares blankly in wonderment*
Leccathu
ParticipantNice! They ARE real, then..
*dances* I’m so happy now!
:D:D Now, the question is, will Elfman ever consider using them in one of his scores (who knows, he may have added them into his Charlie and The Chocolate Factory score…
*grins mischeviously and chuckles*)…. but, I digress.
Thanks so much for helping answer my question, everybody!!

ParticipantI apologize about the horrible grammar in the previous post. I think I was just too excited about the actual topic at hand to read it over. >_o Sorry. *grins apologetically* Again, if people want me to make better sense of what I said, please ask.

ParticipantBeautiful! I wonder what that red and yellow percussive thing that guy is playing is… *wonders if it is a Rumbaphone, but shakes her head, trying not to hope*
Elfman looks frazzled, but he still has that classic smile/grin… ^^ *grins happily* I feel sad for his hair, though. But hey – look on the upside. Better losing his hair than his creativity, eh?
Gorgeous. ^^ I can’t wait to hear this!! ^^ *dances with glee*
Leccathu
ParticipantI guess Elfman must have used the celeste a lot in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory as well – I heard a lot of it in that.
:D:D:D:D ^^ Beautiful!!! I have a ton of questions about a lot of the percussion used in that score – especially with one instrument in particular in the track ‘ The River Cruise’. Heard throughout most of the track, it’s a odd, chromatic, marimba-like insturment that adds color to the beat… it almost sounds bell-like. Does anyone know what I’m talking about, or should I turn this into an actual thread?
Very curious and absolutely in love with it.
Cheers,

ParticipantAwesome!! The premiere was on my birthday!!! ^w^ A happy happy birthday, indeed.
^^
These are too neat.

ParticipantOooh yeah – Mike Teavee is INTENSE. ^^ The music, mainly, but the kid too. ^^ *chuckles* Doesn’t really help that I haven’t seen the film yet and I only got to hear Mike Teavee due to the Dr. Demento Show (I LOVE YOU, DR. D!!
!!!), but man – as soon as I heard the music playing in the trailers on television, I thought ‘Elfman must have had fun with this one!’. And boy, was I right! ^^ It’s so wonderful to see him so happy… But yeah – Roald Dahl’s lyrics and Elfman’s music go perfectly with each other. ^^ Both are kind of wacky and dark. *grins insanely* Hooray for beautiful combinations!!!!
I can’t wait to see this movie.

ParticipantMy top 5 favorites are:
1. The Nightmare Before Christmas
2. Sleepy Hollow
3. Planet of the Apes
4. Batman Returns
5. Edward Scissorhands…heck, they’re all astounding!!!! *faints*
Gorgeous, Elfman. Just plain bloody gorgeous.
Leccathu
ParticipantPerhaps….. though one commercial in particular sounded almost exactly like Edward’s theme – the general scene of the commercial was of little girls dancing around in falling pastel-colored flowers (Yech. -_-), and the music sounded very, very similar to Edward’s theme, which made me sad… *sighs*
Could it be that somone ripped off Elfman yet again? But I don’t know much about these matters, though, so I think someone else with a higher sense of what goes on in the composing world and has seen this commercial should think this over so I won’t be jumping any guns here. *grimaces* Sorry. I’m a disgrace to this discussion board *chuckles*.
Leccathu
ParticipantOoh! And don’t forget that Revell did The Chronicles of Riddick!!! Gorgeous score…
Sorry – I digress. Nothing special to say here. *scoots back under her rock*
Leccathu
ParticipantBeautiful. Just beautiful. I still am having a hard time getting used to Depp’s voice (it’s just so…. funky! That isn’t a bad thing, though, certainly
). ^^ And the goal of making the kids unappealing has most certainly been acheived here…. *winces* Eech.
I absolutely love the shot of Depp with that pair of scissors in front of his factory… Having a little trip down memory lane, Burton? *grins and chuckles*
Beautiful.
I can’t wait to see this! *dances*

ParticipantIf you meant ‘drummer’, John Avila wasn’t it. The drummer for Oingo Boingo was ‘Vatos’ Hernandez (most of the pictures of him during that era had him with a shaved head and a widow’s peak). John Avila was a guitarist and a singer in the later years.
^^ I’m sorry – I’m more of an Oingo Boingo fanatic than I realize. *chuckles* It’s clearly a disease. XP
Where did you see close-up shots of the Oompa Loompas, anyway? Most trailers or pictures I’ve seen so far mainly either are too far away or they’re moving, so it’s hard to see. I would like to see this for myself!
Wonderful, wonderful.
Leccathu
Participant*smiles* Oh, okay – I understand now. It’s ncie to have smart people here *chuckles* Thanks a lot. Quite fascinating to hear.
Cheers,
Leccathu
ParticipantO_O YES!!! Someone who has made the same observation!!! *laughs with delight* Isn’t that beyond frightening? It is amazing though how similar they look…*giggles insanely and spasms in glee* So cool!
*hops away psyched*
Leccathu
ParticipantIt is frightening how similar the ELF and Polar Express cues are to each other, though after hearing them both I personally liked the ELF cue better, for some reason.
And also, the second clip really does sound like Edward Scissorhands, but I think it does have its own individuality – it doesn’t really sound like Silvestri really meant to copy Elfman’s work, but if he was intending that, he didn’t do a very good job of it (feel free to pummel me with tomatoes now). On another note, to my ears it doesn’t really sound like Edward Scissorhands verbatim, but the overall feel of the piece and the way it moves makes me expectant to hear Edward’s theme after that crescendo, but that’s only me. *smiles*
Where do you get all of these clips, Ryan? The pure efficiency and sheer weight of knowledge you have about what you do is astounding. I bow at your feet.
