Beyond the handful of songs, the only cue that sounds familiar are a few seconds of strings after the Warner Bros. logo and that is definitely by Brian Tyler.

Two of the cues are from the previous scores — “City Chase” and “The Suit”, howevever “Men at Work” and “Doomed” sound new.

A friend of mine saw the pic last night and said it was “refreshing and entertaining” and “a real Tim Burton-esque whack-a-doodle of a movie.”!

He also said the film was temped with THE FRIGHTENERS, SUPER 8, the original Bob Cobert TV scores and WATERHORSE: LEGEND OF THE DEEP.

Seems like it was a short suite. The big choral moment from the middle of “Movie Studio” was definitely in there. I was just blown away by seeing my childhood icon Kermit the Frog say “Danny Elfman”.

Hi Thor — I’m a bit loaded up right now. I’m working on a site for Stuart Thomas (who works with JNH), possibly a redux for Nathan (AN ACT OF VALOR) Furst, plus big changes for Creature Features (Taylor White of Percepto). Not to mention I am also moving into my first house at the end of May! Elfman is always a priority for me, so I will sneak in as much work once these three projects are cleared off my plate. There’s also the relaunch of Cinemusic, which is 95% ready… I just need to write new reviews!

Looks like the APES complete score discs I got back in 2001 — with the film main titles, etc — are still worth something

Love the main theme – and it was nice to see all of the sound dialed down in the film TWICE to let the score take over completely. I was actually touched by this movie. It would make a great father/son pic, if only I had a son! Can’t wait to hear the final boxing cue by itself.

Reads like a bad press release… But here’s some info:

T Bone Burnett and Danny Elfman are collaborating as composers for the Lionsgate film, which is expected to feature a wide range of musical genres.

Universal Republic will release soundtrack and score albums related to The Hunger Games, the Lionsgate film that T Bone Burnett and Danny Elfman are collaborating on as composers. In addition to their instrumental work, Universal Republic will release collections of the songs featured in the film and songs directly influenced by the themes — freedom, rebellion, survival, family — and subject matter of the film.

Set in the future, the film’s music is expected to cross multiple genres, Lionsgate’s head of music Tracy McKnight says. “The list of artists that could participate, and the opportunities for them to write and record, are really unlimited,” she said in a statement.

The music is expected to fit the moods of the film’s locales: an area that resembles the South; a futuristic metropolis; and a forested arena where the games take place.

Set in the ruins of North America, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which teenagers – aka Tributes — must fight with one another until one survivor remains. A central character, the impoverished Katniss Everdeen, is forced to make dramatic choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The Hunger Games is expected to be the first of four films based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novels. Gary Ross is the director, while Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson star.
