ParticipantBehind Danny Elfman, James Horner is my second favorite composer. His “Rocketeer” and “Apollo 13” scores are among my favorites, and I’m also fond of “Mighty Joe Young,” “The Perfect Storm,” and “Glory” are also among my favorites. I have no say on the conflict issue because I think both men are brilliant composers.

ParticipantThat was kinda mean on Zimmer’s part. He was rewriting a theme for a character that Danny wrote an amazing theme for 16 years ago and being like “haha it’s mine now!” It’s like making out with someone right in front of your ex’s face (I suppose that simile works). Either way, Danny’s theme has lasted all these years and is still beloved my so many, whereas this new score won’t get very far at all. Curious though that Danny was right down the hall…he must have laughed his head off triumphantly when he heard the new score. I did.

ParticipantInteresting. He really created something special that just can’t be rivaled. I was disappointed to see an article in the Boston Globe about the history of Batman’s film and TV versions with a very very small reference to Tim Burton’s two films, which kick-started the character for Hollywood film. Losers.

ParticipantAHH they deceived me!

ParticipantThey did a Batman Begins spoof on the MTV Movie Awards (the show gets worse by the year) and they had some of the movie’s Batmobile “Tumbler” footage with the Hans Zimmer music on top of it and it seemed okay that way rather than alone, but certainly nothing special. The movie better live up to its hype or else it’ll be just like “Hulk” minus a good score…big hype for a “psychooigical comic film” and not living up to it. We shall see next week.

ParticipantOkay, someone help me quickly. What trailer is that most recently from? I know I just heard it very recently. I love how it suddenly just BECOMES Spider-Man, with the percussion, quick violin, brass, and chorus. Ha.

ParticipantIt’s official: Brett Ratner’s helming X-Men 3. Funny how it turned out. He originally wanted X-Men, but Bryan Singer got it. Then he was in charge of Superman, and Bryan Singer got that too. So now he finally gets his hands on the X-Men franchise. I’d honestly laugh if Bryan Singer hurried to finish Superman so he could do X-Men 3 (although I love the way he handled those movies). I can’t wait to see what Ratner has in store for the mutants, directorally and musically. Although I’m sure Ryan’s not so thrilled.

ParticipantIt’s just so bland. There’s really nothing special about the score for either composer. It does for me about the same as Thomas Newman’s “Lemony Snicket” score–probably good with the movie, but obring on its own. I don’t know if I’m happy or upset about this because I expected something great out of the collaborative work yet I didn’t want it to exceed Danny’s original masterpiece. The movie better be good.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantHe’s been officially attached to the live-action “Charlotte’s Web” and the Disney CG-animated “A Day with Wilbur Robinson.” That’s 4 on his slate right now, and rumors have been popping up that he may squeeze in Spider-Man 3.

ParticipantNope, I’m pretty sure it’s from Batman Begins. It was a headline on SuerheroHype.com just about the score being available. Having sat through 40 minutes of music and a bunch of Japanese (which I don’t speak) there was only a minute where I was mildly entertained by the music. It’s when they’re about to air the movie itself and there’s a powerful Zimmer cue that wasn’t bad, but certainly not on par with what was expected.

ParticipantOf course, having Danny score X3 would be absolutely fantastic, but I was really fond of John Ottman’s score for X2 and I’d like to hear what else he has to offer. I know I’ve read that he was hoping he’d be hired to score it because he had a lot fo themes which he wanted to build upon. The concept that thrills me the most is that of Brett Ratner directing the film. I wasn’t too thrilled when Matthew Vaughn was attached because his lack of experience. I love Brett Ratner’s directing style. Let’s face it, he makes good movies. “Red Dragon,” “Rush Hour” 1 and 2, “Family Man,” he’s good. Let’s just remember, John Moore is also in the running, although I’m hoping he doesn’t get the job. I didn’t see “Flight of the Phoenix” but I did see his “Behind Enemy Lines,” and it’s just mediocre directing. GO RATNER! AND POSSIBLY DANNY TOO!

ParticipantDanny was never really attached to Wonder Woman, it was just listed on IMDb for some reason.
The music from the latest “Charlie” trailer is just trailer music, I’m not quite sure what the original source is. The “Willy Wonka” song in the first teaser is Danny’s.
As for Spider-Man 3, I’d like to hear how both your sources compare. I still have hope for his glorious return to the Spider-Man franchise!

ParticipantGood choice, new Ryan. You must love Edward Scissorhands (it’s listed twice, but honest mistake because it’s an amazing score). Lots of scores on that list, most of then I’ve heard and others I haven’t, but the ones I have heard are great selections. I saw the first two Matrix scores there, but the third one was probably the best (the last 3 tracks were amazing). Welcome to the site, hope to see you around.

ParticipantUm, Spider-Man 2? Also stuff like Planet of the Apes where they wanted Danny to action-up the score. The studios control eveything.

ParticipantWith Spider-Man being a such huge studio franchise, we were lucky to see someone as skilled as Sam Raimi given the helm of it. Back in the “Batman” days, studios didn’t have as much influence as they do now because there’s more money in it now. It’s kind of sad to see creativity being taken away, but that’s the way the business runs. Especially for Sony.

ParticipantI mentioned Joseph LoDuca in another post. He and Sam have worked together since Evil Dead–the very first one. I’ve even read that he did some additional music for Spider-Man 2. As for Basil Poledouris, his attachment to “For Love of the Game” was not likely to have been Raimi’s choice. Lots of things about that movie are non-traditional Raimi. Plus I’d never let him score Spider-Man.

ParticipantLooks fantastic. Less than 2 months until we can get our much-needed Danny fix!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantYou’re not really Danny Trejo, are you? Those suggestions are Robert Rodriguez-types. Hmmm…
Well, I still don’t think anybody outside Sam Raimi’s composer circle would be near that film. And as it was pointed out, Young is scoring Spider-Man 3.

ParticipantYeah, I think Bartek even contributed to the Spidey 2 score. Debney proved his creativity with his “Passion” score, but the statement that he’d do what the director told him to do is probably true. Ottman’s a good superhero composer, but I don’t think Spidey’s up his alley. Sam Raimi’s gonna stick with his usual crew, i.e. Young, Bartek, maybe LoDuca, or Debney. Of course, nobody wil be able to score Spidey with the intensity and depth that Danny did. I still want him on board. He’s probably the top reason why I love those movies.
Also, let’s not criticize Ottman for being stuck with superhero scores. Danny did Spider-Man, Darkman, Batman, Hulk…most critics refer to him as the “comic score guy.” And we love him and those scores still.

ParticipantBesides, Raimi has a preexisting working relationship with Chris Young. I’m still pissed about the whole thing, but at least there’s much to look forward to from Danny still. As for Alan Silvestri, Spider-Man is a bit too big for what I believe he can handle. He hasn’t done any work on it at all, whereas Chris Young and John Debney would be more qualified. Actually I’d like to see Debney replace Danny rather than Young.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantHad to be. Nobody’s attached to score X3 and Patrick Doyle is scoring Harry Potter 4. He’s not a bad composer, but I’d never let him near Spidey.

ParticipantI don’t have TRIO and I have Comcast Platinum, which is pretty much all the cool channels. Is it a channel you gotta special order? That show sounds pretty good.
