ParticipantThe trailer will be online tomorrow, according to Universal. As will the trailer for “Avatar”.

ParticipantI can’t remember whether it was on Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but I know that I once played “Only A Lad” in one of those games.

ParticipantHe was funny in “Blades of Glory,” but I didn’t care for “Napoleon Dynamite”. However I got to meet him a few months ago, and he was a really nice guy.

ParticipantIt seems that Tim Burton is jumping on the HD bandwagon, because IMDb says the movie was shot on the Panavision Genesis HD camera. That camera has a somewhat film-like quality and looks pretty good, as we saw with “Superman Returns,” but I definitely prefer the look of film over HD tape. I also worry because “Public Enemies” was shot that way (granted on a different type of camera) and it looked TERRIBLE.

ParticipantColor me impressed. I really wasn’t too interested in another adaptation of the story, but I somehow forgot that Tim Burton almost always pulls through. And Johnny Depp seems terrific. Excitement increased!

ParticipantWeird, I was just looking at that today! If you read the accompanying interview with the title designer, it’s Interesting when he says that Elfman based his music off of the temp track that he used. I’d say Elfman pretty much did the whole thing himself.

ParticipantYou mean people attempting Southie accents. It always turns into a New York accent, unless it’s someone who has lived in Boston… or Amy Ryan.

ParticipantI too watched a bit of the movie on CN, and right at the point of my favorite Elfman cue, “Super Nacho”, when Nacho is putting on his luchador costume for the first time.

ParticipantSince John Ottman has been brought up by many, I thought this might be a teensy bit relevant. I randomly came across this website for the company that did the unused opening titles for “Fantastic Four”, which can be seen in what I assume was a rough cut, but with a synth mock-up of Ottman’s theme. I got the same kick out of it that I did when I heard Elfman’s “Hulk” and “Nightmare Before Christmas” synth versions. Link:

ParticipantI finally saw the movie last week. Elfman’s music worked perfectly when it could be heard. The movie itself was eh, but there were definitely moments when the music really shone, particularly during the scene covered by the track “Reveal/The Escape”.

ParticipantBack when “Spider-Man 2” came out, there was a Lego short film made to go with it that was scored by Jason Graves, which had a great little theme reminiscent of Elfman’s Spidey theme. The whole thing sounded great. I think the guy even posted here. I think he did a good job working with Elfman’s style while putting his own creativity into it.
Michael Giacchino really is a master in my eyes. Film-wise, he’s been stuck doing mostly adaptations, but each time he’s done such a great job creating a very original score while allowing original themes to slip through minimally, like with “Speed Racer” and “Star Trek”. Then his fully original scores are fantastic, like the aforementioned “Up”, which so effectively set up the story at the beginning when there was no dialogue. So yes, definitely a vote for Giacchino. I would want him to score “Spider-Man 4” even if he DIDN’T use Elfman’s theme, he’s that good.
Others: Mike Verta, who adapted the “Batman” theme for a ride; Deborah Lurie, of course, because she’s awesome; John Ottman’s a good choice too; John Powell has emerged as a very good composer as well who could write in similar genres as Elfman.

ParticipantDidn’t John August make a movie called “The Nines” not long ago?
Spider-Fan
ParticipantAgreed. Now that I’ve listened to the score a few times, I’m liking it more and more. Actually, there’s a quality to it that reminds me of — bear with be here — Harald Kloser’s “The Day After Tomorrow” in that it evokes the feelings of survival and humanity. Don’t hate me. I’ve yet to see the movie, but I might if somebody else wants to go with me. Otherwise I might wait for the DVD release based on what I’ve been hearing about it.
I keep reading about poor mixes with T4… I don’t know if it’s the fault of the film’s sound mixer or the theater’s speakers. I know that when I saw “Star Trek” the music in my theater was very prominent, almost to the point where it was too loud to really hear it. I heard an interview with Michael Giacchino where he said that J.J. Abrams is very good about making sure the music is heard over sound effects, which is pretty cool. I’ve gone off on a bit of a tangent, but then again, I haven’t posted in a while. So hi!

ParticipantThe movie’s official website has a music loop that sounds distinctly Elfman-esque…
Spider-Fan
ParticipantThe TV commercials and the game’s website have extensively used the instrumentals from “The Little Things”, which is pretty cool.

ParticipantThere are supposed to be “Wanted” sequels, and Elfman seemed to form a great friendship with Timur Bekmambetov. Also, I hear WB is already planning Terminator sequels. Franchise possibilities?
Spider-Fan
ParticipantHe does have quite the diverse palate, but one of his skills of which I’ve always been most fond has been his ability to do variations on a strong central theme. It has always been fun to hear variations on the Batman and Spider-Man themes because he just does so many things with them. So I agree, it would be nice if Elfman had his own “Star Wars”.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantHa! Well if there’s anyone more deserving of an honorary Oscar, it’s Elfman. Although it’s cool to see Bruce Brougton’s gotten plenty of votes as well. He’s a guy who has produced a lot of great music but doesn’t get enough recognition for it.

ParticipantThe last place the studio is probably thinking about pumping money is the music department. They’d be best to focus it on getting the best script and VFX, which were embarrassingly awful in the last one. It’s hard to hope for Elfman’s return after the disappointment we all felt when we heard he’d be working on “Spider-Man 3” and that didn’t come to be. However, the hope is still there for 4.

ParticipantMy story is similar to D-Bo’s. I saw “Spider-Man” when I was 13 and was captivated by the music. I had been into some Williams and Horner scores at the time, but I had never heard of Danny Elfman. I went home and got a hold of the Main Titles and listened to them over and over. I even remember going to my friend’s house to hang out, but I wanted to go home so that I could go listen to that track again. I got the album and listened to it over and over. When the DVD of the film came out, I believe I watched it every day for a few weeks. From there I listened to some other Elfman stuff… “Nightmare”, “Army of Darkness”, “Batman”, “Edward Scissorhands”, “Dick Tracy”, “Men in Black”, and on from there. But “Spider-Man” was without doubt the movie that made me love Elfman’s music, hence my username.
So… 7 years later, and I’m still hooked. I absolutely loved “Wanted” this year and I’m very excited to hear what he brings to “The Wolf Man” and “Terminator Salvation”.

ParticipantOh, I don’t know if Raimi is completely without fault. The dancing scenes are completely unforgivable. I have faith in him making a great fourth movie since he did so well with the first two, but the third film was nearly without any redeeming qualities. It was quite terrible in so many ways. Thank goodness Young’s love theme was rejected… I’ve heard it and it’s pretty awful, especially in comparison with Elfman’s theme (by the way, why was Sony so opposed to it on the earlier films?). However I do think that there were some nice statements of the Spidey theme in the first Sandman fight and in the end of the final battle.

ParticipantApparently Disney is working on an action-adventure movie based on the Tomorrowland section of its theme parks (where I work!). I’ve always wanted to hear Elfman’s take on a space epic. I would hope it wouldn’t resemble his work on “Star Wars” as “Family Guy” suggested it would.

ParticipantI just found a bunch of tracks by doing a few Google searches. They’re not too hard to come by. Some of the stuff I’ve found includes some of the work done by Young that was later replaced by Deborah Lurie’s work, and rightly so as it was supremely terrible. Perhaps Raimi learned his lesson about giving Young a shot at a project like this.

ParticipantI heard in an interview with Debney that he was really looking forward to scoring “Iron Man” but didn’t get the gig. He even wrote a theme for Iron Man. He said something along the lines of he felt the character deserved a bigger, more heroic theme than the one Ramin Djawadi gave him, and I agree. He had high hopes for being hired for “Iron Man 2” and I hope he gets it. As for “Spider-Man 4”, I can only hope that Elfman has a change of heart and agrees to come back to wash the horrid taste of “Spider-Man 3” out of my mouth.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantYup, and the people who vote on them are the same people who keep giving money to those stupid Friedberg/Seltzer “parody” movies.
