Shoot you? I want to thank you! I was worried about whether or not Danny would be on the DVD and now that I know he is, I am very happy. Especially since they show the orchestra playing “The Bank/Saving May,” that’s my favorite track! I can’t wait until Tuesday! Where are you that it came in a week early?
Spider-FanParticipantNo, I was referring to “Runaway Train” rather than “Demonstration.” Nice try though…
Spider-FanParticipantI’m not making any rules, so feel free to do whatever you like with the established themes from Spider-Man and create a track out of your work. Just pretend that you’ve been hired to fill in for a swinging scene in Spider-Man 3 and you have to work like Debney and Young did on Spidey 2.
Spider-FanParticipantThankee! That’s a lot of useful info. I appreciate it.
Spider-FanParticipantWow, never even knew he scored a Honda commercial! When’s that from? It literally defines Danny Elfman music! I’d say it’s a combo of Flubber and Pee Wee. Can anyone convert that to mp3?
Spider-FanParticipantTREVOR RABIN DID MISSION SPACE? Wow, I thought it was Armageddon-esque. I’m surprised that they didn’t get Ennio Morricone, the composer of “Mission to Mars” (the movie on which the ride is loosely based) to write it. Like I said, the score was so-so, and I would have been much happier if Rabin did a direct adaptation of his Armageddon score.
Even though my visits to Disney World have been limited now that I’m old enough to see all of their scams, I’d love it if new rides featured more complex scores from more well-known composers. Trevor Rabin is a start. I’m wondering if they brought in Alan Silvestri for the new Lilo and Stitch ride replacing alien encounter…?
And by the way, where do you find out all this stuff? I’ve been searching for ages for a source that tells about the ride composers. It took me weeks to find out that Edo Giudotti scored Spaceship Earth!
Spider-FanParticipantHa, recently rediscovered Bruce Broughton. Memories of watching “The Rescuers Down Under” suddenly overcame me and now it’s stuck in my brain. By the way, Horizons was a fantastic ride but it is now extinct at Epcot. Mission: Space, its replacement, is a pretty sweet ride, but the music is less-than-great. When I first went on it, I felt that the Armageddon score should have been attached to it.
But what about America, where these guys are from? Sure, Broughton has done his share, but Debney doing the Paris Haunted Mansion? And what’s Captain EO? And why hasn’t Danny Elfman done anything for them?
November 15, 2004 at 1:47 am in reply to: A new name in filmmusic (this is off-topic, but anyway…) #52791Spider-FanParticipantOh boy, there goes the Potter franchise. Not that I have anything against Patrick Doyle, he’s not bad at all, but the Harry Potter theme is distinct and changing it just rips apart the whole thing. Even the apponitment of Alfonso Cuaron as director of Prisoner of Azkaban caused me to lose respect for the movies. Maybe this new score will be an adaptation? If they were smart, they would have had William Ross take over scoring scoring duties. I liked his work on Chamber of Secrets.
Spider-FanParticipantYou’ll notice that Violet has a DIGITAL watch, so it has to be somewhat close to present-day. As for Wonka, the costume is good, but he looks like Amelie! And his gloves would be cool if they were something like leather, but is skin is visible, so they look more like Latex. I’m not so happy with Violet wither, but I really like Veruca’s look, and Augustus is awesome. As for the Oompa Loompa…I’m not too sure. I thought that they were supposed to be CGI. I’ll have to see.
Spider-FanParticipantThat looks too feminine to be Johnny Depp. In fact, it doesn’t look much like him at all. And yes, that poster does look like it was done on Photoshop. In fact when I first saw it I thought it might be a fake, and I’m still unsure. At least Danny’s name is once again going to appear in theater lobbies and that makes me happy.
Spider-FanParticipantI wanted to be Doc Ock, but my Halloween was totally nonexistent for me this year. I spent the first half of the day on a plane, and the second half doing schoolwork. My only time spent outside on Halloween evening was when I completed my Photography assignment to take an outdoor landscape nighttime photo. Oh well, there’s next year…
Spider-FanParticipantI keep finding Danny to be more and more of a badass. Right on!
Spider-FanParticipantLooks better than that pic of Johnny Depp we saw, if that’s the costume. It looks very Burtoney.
October 28, 2004 at 8:00 pm in reply to: Zey seek ‘im ‘ere… the Danny Elfman post-Spidy2 interview #52687Spider-FanParticipantWow, thanks a lot! That was a very informative interview, thanks for translating it! I really hope that Sony allows Spider-Man 3 to be the movie that it has to be, including having a Danny Elfman score.
Spider-FanParticipantNah, Adamanta did. I just wanted to clarify for him, because he thought that he was maybe involved. You’re a regular, TenderLumpling, I know that you know that Danny wasn’t involved.
Spider-FanParticipantI keep listening to the score part of the soundtrack more and more and I keep thinking how more and more relevant this topic is becoming. There are some parts of the score that seem to be very close to Danny’s recent action scores. I would say that if you mixed the Spider-Man 2 score with the Armageddon score, you’d have the Team America score. It’s really much better than it ever needed to be, especially considering it was literally written last-minute by Harry Gregson-Williams. Still, the Trey/Matt songs are awesome. “I’m So Ronery” might get an Oscar nomination, seriously.
Spider-FanParticipantOh, he better not. I’m just hoping that it’s another one of Johhny Depp’s personal styles. If he wears that as part of the costume I will be upset.
Spider-FanParticipantSpeaking of the concert, I saw some ad for a Carnegie Hall opening special on PBS this week. This isn’t his gig, is it?
Spider-FanParticipantOnce again, the music is by Alan Silvestri and it was written as part of the Polar Express score. It loops on the website! It does! Danny Elfman was not in any way involved with this movie.
Spider-FanParticipantYeah, I knew someone had that site. I was really looking forward to hearing the rest of it. Were you planning on tanscribing the entire score?!
Spider-FanParticipantMany of us had been waiting for months to hear the music after hearing the news that Dannt would be scoring it. It, along with the Desperate Housewives theme, has held a few of us over (I’m talking about myself, but I assume others) until his enxt two big scores come out: Corpse Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Spider-FanParticipantGo back to my last post. I explain it all. In TV spot 4, it begins with “Edward Scissorhands” and progresses with some original Silvestri music for Polar Express. I don’t see what you’re so oppsed to, TenderLumpling. I really like the very appropriate music. Listen to it more at the official site, it loops in the Flash version.
Spider-FanParticipantActually the soundtrack is on iTunes and I have it. A few of Gregson-Williams’s tracks even sound Elfmanesque, mainly the second half of the track “Kim Jong-Il.” Also I found some very emotional music in the track “F.A.G.” (which in the movie stands for Film Actors Guild). This part seems to be much like his emotional “Goodbye Independence” track in Armageddon, and it kinda moves me despite the humorous tone in the movie.
Spider-FanParticipantCan you post a link to the commercial that you’re talking about? I know that the music in Trailer 3 is from David Arnold’s Stargate, entitled “Masradge Drag.”
UPDATE: I just checked the Polar Express website and the TV spots that it has. The first two feature the “Masradge Drag” track. The third spot has music from James Newton Howard’s “Peter Pan” score. TV spot 4 has about 5 seconds of Danny Elfman’s “Edward Scissorhands” score, followed by what sounds to be a track from Alan Silvestri’s score for Polar Express. You can hear the theme playing on the website, and it’s very “Edward”-esque. It sounds like it suits the movie perfectly.
Spider-FanParticipantThat’s a piano version of it. I seem to remember a website where a guy was attempting to completely midi the main titles, and he had only gotten about 30 seconds into it. I can no longer find the site though…shame.
