ParticipantHas anyone been able to figure out what the lyrics are beyond the word “Alice”? I can’t tell what the child choir is saying.

ParticipantJohn Powell has impressed me since he branched off from Remote Control. His scores for “X-Men 3”, “Bolt” and “Hancock” showed that he can score a superhero film pretty well with strong themes. And regarding John Ottman, his “X-Men 2” score is still one of my favorites. I even liked the Silver Surfer theme from “Fantastic Four 2” despite it being disproportionate in quality to the film itself. And has anyone heard his “Astro Boy” score? It’s really good!
Based on the concept art that has appeared online, Elfman would be a really cool choice for the “Green Lantern” movie, which looks pretty hardcore sci-fi. And who wouldn’t want to hear an Elfman Captain America theme? Or John Williams!

ParticipantThe theme has definitely grown on me from those previews. And I totally wasn’t expecting a theme with lyrics! I wonder how that will play in the actual movie. It definitely sounds like a distinctly Elfman score, with bits of the aforementioned “Black Beauty” as well as “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (anybody hear “Up and Out” in “Proposal/Down the Hole”?) and then even a little bit of Phillip Glass’s “Koyaanisqatsi” in the reprises.

ParticipantI’m loving what I’ve heard from those clips. It’s got that dark, rich “Sleepy Hollow” quality that sounds just amazing.

ParticipantWooo, we’ve got a Final Confrontation track!
Spider-Fan
ParticipantI liked it! It was really well directed and the characters were great!

ParticipantWow, that’s pretty big! I was reading that article linked from the “Green Hornet” announcement post, and then I caught that fact towards the end! Quite a day for Elfman news, it seems.

Participant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yippie!!!!!
Not to mention the band Anvil will be featured in the film as well. This movie keeps sounding better and better!

ParticipantStrange, I had heard that Disney Records had converted to digital download only. Michael Giacchino had said that his score for “Up” was the guinea pig for this, as it wasn’t released on CD. Good to see! Just a month and a half to go!

ParticipantArgh, I just got back from vacation in New York and I didn’t get to go see it! Sooo…. how about the Anaheim Convention Center?

ParticipantThe phrases “dark and gritty” and “like Batman Begins” have been tossed around in news articles, which is predictable and stupid. So yes, there will probably be a Remote Control composer assigned to the project, which I’m fairly certain will lack all the charm and style that made the first two movies so interesting. And here I was believing that Sam Raimi could get back to making a good Spider-Man movie again in spite of “Spider-Man 3”, and even without Elfman. Sad times.

ParticipantI swear, there’s also a point in the score (though not on the soundtrack) during the destruction of Los Angeles where I thought that they accidentally edited in “Molossus” from “Batman Begins”.

ParticipantI had my doubts before, but this looks like a stunning movie. I also love how trailers for Tim Burton films always manage to have some Elfman music in them

ParticipantI think we’re starting to refer to opinions as facts here…

ParticipantHeck, Gustavo Santaolalla won two years in a row. And his score for “Babel” was an assault on the ears.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantSupposedly it will involve aliens, so maybe morel up Elfman’s alley?

ParticipantWhile I’ve never been to Disneyland Paris, I’m familiar with Bramson’s score as well as Giacchino’s Paris score. In fact, they play an excerpt from it about once every 75 minutes in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland (I work there). I was initially turned off by its closeness to many of John Williams’ scores, particularly “E.T.”, but it’s grown on me a bit. I’ve only heard the current Paris Space Mountain score on my iPod, so while it might not fit in so well with the area atmosphere, I think it’s a great listen on its own.

ParticipantOh man… sometimes when that track plays, I get teary-eyed due to how perfectly scored that montage was. Giacchino made some very interesting decisions in his “Up” score, like choosing to focus more on the emotional implications of Carl’s house lifting into the sky (“Carl Goes Up”). Most other composers would have given that scene a bombastic sound, whereas Giacchino conveys the reason why Carl tied balloons to his house in the first place. He’s also really great at capturing that classic Disney kind of music, like with the opening titles from “Up” as well as the short “How to Hook Up Your Home Theater”.
As for both Space Mountains, I just think those scores are great. It’s sci-fi, upbeat, and frantic. When they put the Halloween “Ghost Galaxy” over Space Mountain Disneyland, I was counting the days until Giacchino’s version returned.

ParticipantNo need to feel shame. I think “Up” is a better score than “Milk”. Michael Giacchino is absolutely one of the best working composers today, especially considering how prolific he is.

ParticipantNOOOOOOO!!!! This was a score I was really looking forward to hearing. So the movie is being hacked to pieces and Elfman has left the project… isn’t that what happened with “The Invasion”? Only this is worse because the choice of replacement suggests a complete shift in tone for the film. Well, since Joe Johnston seems to be thrilled with Elfman’s work in general, maybe they’ll reunite on “Captain America”.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantI thought the same thing when I heard that. Other comparisons I remember include “Into the Forest” from “Corpse Bride” and the main theme from MEET THE ROBINSONS, and “Train Time” from “Mission: Impossible” and many tracks from “Planet of the Apes”.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantDidn’t John August write the lyrics? That might make the single “songs and music” credit more reasonable.
Spider-Fan
ParticipantAgh, if only I wasn’t poor! Cheapest seats are $47.

ParticipantThe US premiere of Star Wars in Concert is taking place literally blocks away from where I live, but alas, it is WAY too expensive for me.

ParticipantRandom, but possibly inspired. Though he was pretty funny in “Extract” — and I’m usually not a fan of stunt casting.
