ParticipantYeah, we’ve talked about this before. It’s bogus. Neither “Overeager Overture” nor any of Danny’s wedding music have ever been released (I doubt we’ll ever see the wedding music recorded, anyway, as this is their own PRIVATE music).
Thor
ParticipantHmm….the first two pictures don’t show. Whazzap?
Thor
ParticipantWell, both are obviously great songs in the Cab Calloway-type jazz tradition Danny knows so well from his early Mystic Knights days, but I’d have to give the prize to Oogie Boogie. A couple of weeks ago, I got the song so stuck in my mind that I almost lost it. It’s extremely “hookable” and much of that is obviously due to Ken Page’s magnificent and dramatic vocals. Listen to Danny’s original demo tapes and you’ll notice how much difference Page makes!
Thor
ParticipantWell, those are two minutes I’ll never get back (I turned off after that….).
Thor
ParticipantWow, I love those clips!! Some it – especially the sampled percussion bits – reminds me a bit of PLANET OF THE APES, which is one of my favourite Elfman scores. I’ve always wanted him to do more of that stuff. And some of those dissonant chords that segue in and out remind me a bit of Don Davis’ MATRIX scores. Looking forward to picking this up!
Thor
ParticipantHeh….looks a bit like EDWARD SCISSORHANDS grew hands and decorated his attic.
Thor
ParticipantIs the trailer music also Danny’s?
Thor
ParticipantOH COME ON, everyone! That’s so clearly a joke….as in Elfman doing all superhero movies these days.
Thor
ParticipantThanks, man! That’s about time we got a Goldenthal board.
Thor
ParticipantHey, that “Heartless Duke” thing was pretty neat. I could obviously hear NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS in it, as well as Williams’ “Star of Bethlehem” from HOME ALONE. Guess it’s the minor mode thing that does it.
Thor
ParticipantEhm….redubbing songs is pretty customary in countries where English is not the first language. Why wouldn’t the songs be redubbed when the dialogue is?
Thor
ParticipantLove that picture with Philipp Glass. As most of you know, Glass is one of Elfman’s musical heroes (that are still alive). Cool to see him with one of his inspirations.
Thor
ParticipantCan’t get it to work. All I see when I click that link is the iTunes homepage. The search engine can’t come up with any Dear Hunter either. Oh well…
Thor
ParticipantThanks for putting it out, Ryan.
Thor
ParticipantThat clip has been around forever. I think it was from a promo video related to NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, back in the early 90’s.
Thor
ParticipantI must say that both look very good for their age. Fonda (42) but also Elfman (53), even though he has gained a few pounds recently.
Thor
ParticipantLittle mule? Sorry, but I have no idea what you’re talking about….
Thor
ParticipantYup, I’ll join the chorus of salutations here. Great work, Ryan. It’s much more eye-friendly now and very well organized. Some comments on the “filmography” page, though:
* A picture of CD’s is not a bad idea. But perhaps it would be better to have them standing up in vertical position and also try to have as little “flash” light bouncing off the jewel cases as possible.
* It’s Point Pleasant, not PointE Pleasant
* Where’s the “Beetlejuice – The Animated Series” entry? The “Overeager Overture”? The Honda IMAX commercial? The Budweiser commercial (yes, it’s Boingo, but you also have the “Fast Times” theme listed, which is also Boingo)? FACE LIKE A FROG? Nike commercial? The Julian and Little Demons musicals? MODERN VAMPIRES?
Well, I’m sure the filmography is on your list of uncompleted pages. Keep it up!
Oh, and how about making the top logo clickable so that you return to the main page (news page?) if you click it?
Thor
ParticipantSounds great. I’ll have to rent this as well to get the whole picture. So far, I’ve only heard the “Ramses suite”. Any Boingo reference is good in my book.
Thor
ParticipantThat’s right. It certainly has those elements as well, but I was obviously thinking of the prevalent celeste and other forms of “tinkling” percussive effects throughout; plus those warm strings. Of course, it’s impossible to assess anything with certainty before I hold the entire soundtrack in my hands (or, to be more precise, when it’s actually playing in my CD player).
Thor
ParticipantAs I’ve said elsewhere, the orchestration of this score seems similar to EDWARD, but it doesn’t have the same emotional and melodic immediacy. But it sounds good, no doubt.
Thor
ParticipantThat link you gave just takes me/directs me to the iTunes homepage.
And no, I’m not using Windows 98, but Windows XP. And YES, I do have iTunes installed (although not the latest 7.0 version).
Thor
ParticipantYeah, I did that, but when I typed in “danny elfman” in the small search box on the left side, all I got were some Elfman albums that I could listen to in the itunes store. No “Essentials”, as you called it. No list of any kind. No nothing. Maybe I’m just being stupid here, but I sure as hell can’t find it.
Thor
ParticipantDoesn’t show up here (from Norway). Anyone care to copy and paste what he says about the various tunes?
Thor
ParticipantLink?
