ParticipantSeriously, as bitter as Danny sounds, I still hold the hope in my heart that Raimi does such a thing that makes Danny return and patch their relationship.
Danny Burton
ParticipantUgh, can someone give me a little briefing on what he says in the Men in Black II DVD?
I saw the film in the theater and I wouldn’t rent that piece of horse crap if my life depended on it.
Danny Burton
ParticipantFrom the dvdtalk.com review:
Another installment of “Beyond Batman” is included, this time looking at the construction of the second film. Running 15 minutes longer than the first edition, this version has a stand-out piece titled “Inside the Elfman Studio,” which deconstructs the score of the film, as each character had their own music. Elfman even gives a demonstration of how he scored Batman Returns. The featurette as a whole is an excellent behind-the-scenes look at the movie.
Nice! Can’t wait to own Batman and BR [and Batman Begins].
Forever and B&R can rot in the shelves.
Danny Burton
ParticipantDanny, if you are reading this, I AM a film score groupie and I would love to go out for coffee with you!
And I mean that in a completely, non-stalkerish way! Really.
Danny Burton
ParticipantMonsters, you hate Elfman’s choral use?
I’m not trying to be catty, but I just want to know if you even like Elfman’s music.
Danny Burton
ParticipantGood lord, any of you attending the concert MUST go with a tape recorder.
Sorry, Ryan
Danny Burton
ParticipantYou know what? I was a little bit disappointed with the score after my first listen, but Danny Elfman has this quality I’ve yet to find in any composer and because of it is why he is my favorite: He works in layers.
There is SO much stuff to dig in this score it’s ridiculous. With every listen I dig deeper and deeper and find so much thematic and melodic material. The exact same thing happened to me with his POTA score, I hated it at first and now it’s one of my favorites of his.
With that said, the Finale is just magnificent.
Danny Burton
ParticipantUGH!
WB has done the same thing with the Harry Potter DVDs: a bunch of useless and stupid kid-oriented extras.
Screw them!
Danny Burton
ParticipantHe’s been two years in a row Hollywood’s #2 composer, behind John Williams, in FSM’s annual list.
Danny Burton
ParticipantHe’s always so witty and articulate. I love to hear him talk. I REALLY hope there’s an isolated score track [with commentary, of course] for the Charlie DVD.
Oh, and he hates Broadway? I guess that throws the chances of a NBC Broadway show out of the window.
Danny Burton
ParticipantMy iPod is loaded with them.
I can say the only score from back then I don’t like that much is Nightbreed.
The rest I could listen to time after time until I drop dead.
Danny Burton
ParticipantA Pixar film!
Danny Burton
ParticipantThat Building on Fire cue is really good.
I remember someone posted a site with several mp3s and one of them was that cue and the sound quality was actually quite good.
Danny Burton
ParticipantI think someone [maybe Ryan] should make a summary of what happened with Spider-Man 2 and why Danny will not be working on it and post it somewhere in the site, as I’m sure threads like these will only become more common as the months go by.
Danny Burton
ParticipantThat music definitely sounds very JNH-ish, especially like Dinosaur. Such an underrated score and my favorite of his.
Danny Burton
ParticipantOoooh, I was so disappointed by the lack of a featurette dedicated to the music in the BR disc, but apparently that press release is incomplete.
Over at another forum, someone posted this link to the BBFC site:
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/c2fb077ba3f9b33980256b4f002da32c/5b076fd351fdfd6c8025705400378cfb?OpenDocumentNice!
Danny Burton
ParticipantThe lyrics, man.
Danny Burton
ParticipantYou’re both right. Danny didn’t write the songs and they weren’t written for Dahl for a film, so they are not ellegible.
But then again, who knows. The academy’s rules, the music branch’s in particular, are bendier than Paris Hilton.
Danny Burton
ParticipantI too wonder about that commentary.
I remember some website posted around the theatrical release of Big Fish, during a Q&A session with Burton, he said both him and Elfman had already recorded commentaries for Batman and Batman Returns.
Bummer.
Danny Burton
ParticipantYou gotta love any track with a title like “Hard Nipples”
Danny Burton
ParticipantThere’s no way he will get nominated for any of those songs as they aren’t “original” songs written for the film.
That reminds me of the great injustice they made with Moulin Rouge’s song “Come What May”, which wasn’t nominated because in spite of being a never heard before song, it was written for Romeo and Juliet.
The Academy sucks.

ParticipantUGHHHH.
I haven’t seen the film yet and that broke my heart. That is my favorite cue too.
Bummer.
Danny Burton
ParticipantThat reporter that asked Tim about his relationship with Depp looked so mortified.
Poor thing.
Danny Burton
Participant“I tried to listen for “River Cruise Part 2” but couldn’t find it. “
UGHH, That was my favorite cue from the album! Don’t tell me it isn’t actually in the film!!
Is this a case like POTA, where the music in the album was better than the music in the film?
