Funny, it was only last year when Danny randomly popped up in the Kick-Ass soundtrack. I wonder what film he’ll randomly pop up next year.
Tim Burton is directing Dark Shadows, which is a vampire movie, so I assume Danny didn’t want to work on TWO vampire flicks. Especially two that are being made at roughly the same time.
I’m more interested in the book than the music, to be honest. I hope someone ends up selling that thing on ebay.
Rumors are that Michael Giacchino is composing Captain America, so is there still hope for another Elfman-Johnston collaboration? Here’s the Super Bowl spot.
I agree that this year has been a joke and some recent ones as well. But last year they got it right with Michael Giacchino’s Up score.

“Since the last two months, I’m searching actively now for about 20 other scores. I’m trying to get film mixes for early stuff. I’m talking with older music editors I’ve worked with, looking for old hard drives, and I’m trying to find all my printed music. I didn’t save a single piece of manuscript and so we did find a lot, certainly not everything. The real fun thing for that was, before “Pee-wee,” — this was back in the mid ’70s — I wrote a thing called “Oingo Boingo Piano Concerto No. 1½,” and it was the first real composition I ever committed to paper. I taught myself to write. I made myself write this thing down, and it was only because of that composition that I took “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.” I realized if I could write that, I could write this.… [My assistant], in her searching, she found the manuscript for that.”

I don’t think the Batman Returns album has too much music. It’s just not presented properly. For some reason, there’s too much seperation between the character and action cues. So, it doesn’t flow as well as the Batman album where it goes back and forth between action and moody-dramatic music. All my Danny Elfman scores have been uploaded to an MP3 player so I play around with the order of things so things like this wouldn’t bother me anymore.
Yeah, the Desplat’s score for Harry Potter wasn’t too good. It’s disappointing that he did a better job with Twilight.

The Oscars are very political that way. So, Desplat is more likely to get nominated for Harry Potter since WB will make a big push.

However, this year has been a little weak. “The Social Network” is the only indie score I can see being nominated. And, MAYBE “Cyrus” if the Academy remembers that it exists. But I guess we should also wait for Carter Burwell’s score to “True Grit.” If the trailer is any indication, that movie SHOULD have a badass score.
