ParticipantSomebody should do a cover of that song with an insane amount of the cowbell. Gotta have more cowbell!!!

ParticipantKamen probably wouldn’t have scored X2. That job would have gone to John Ottman anyway. Ottman would have worked on the first one had he not been committed to directing, composing, and editing “Urban Legends: Final Cut.” Ottman and Bryan Singer are buddies. From what I heard, Singer was not at all happy with Kamen’s work. I thought it was an average score that was inferior to Ottman’s themes.

ParticipantThe show just plain sucked. I watched the first 5 minutes of the first episode just for the titles and turned it off. And then the music went online. I can’t help but compare that theme to that of “Corpse Bride.” They sound very similar.

Participant…given the stark contrast between the worlds of popular music and film composition, one can’t help but wonder which realm offers up the better groupies. Elfman laughs at the query, “Since a composer has no groupies, I’d have to say Oingo Boingo.” Which is to say that the possibility of there being any crazed Danny Elfman film score groupies lurking about in the shadows is pretty damn slim. “Well maybe there are, but I haven’t met any of them,” he offers up. “Then on the other hand I don’t make it easy for those types to meet me, I’m sure. I live pretty privately, let’s say. So I’ve not yet met a film score groupie. If they’re out there, then we’re keeping ourselves all well hidden from each other.”
Oh yeah. He knows about us. Alas, we should respect his privacy. But still… he knows. Thanks for the post, uukicksass!

ParticipantDon’t take that, Ryan! Cancel his ass!

ParticipantIs it still on the air?

ParticipantI’m naming mine Baxter. Nothing to do with Elfman, but you mentioned naming your next dog’s name and I thought of how I planned on naming mine after Ron Burgundy’s trusty pooch.

ParticipantJust because he’s creative doesn’t mean his dog has to have a weird name. We should be lucky that Danny and Tim Burton, which Hollywood claims as its “eccentrics” despite being among the most normal and classy in the business, named their children (and dog
) normally. Tim’s got Billy, Danny’s got Oliver and Gus the dog, aparrently. Beats names like Pilot Inspektor and Apple. We’re allowed to have interest in a few things about the guy we all admire. Wanting to know his dog’s name is perfectly fine. Many of us are dog lovers and like hearing about other people’s pets. We dont’ want to kidnap the dog, it’s just interest.

ParticipantI hate it but love it when I disprove people who think Tim directed TNBC by bringing up the name Henry Selick, who nobody has really heard of. The look on their faces is priceless. Corpse Bride is a completely different movie. I hate it when people say it’s a follow-up to TNBC.

ParticipantWhat a time to have no computer sound card.

ParticipantAs with “Charlie,” they cut off the finale in “Corpse Bride.” What’s up with that?

ParticipantI noticed this hasn’t gotten any replies, probably because we’ve all got the CD already! Still cool that the site is running the contest, and congrats to whoever wins it.

ParticipantNobody can work with the chorus better than Danny Elfman. The most recent example, “Moon Dance,” is testament to that.

ParticipantFinally got to see it this afternoon in what may be the last movie I see in a local theater of mine. In 10 days, the only theater in Salem, Massachusetts is slated to close. It’s tragic. Anyway, I really loved the movie. Sure, it was short, but you really can’t go too long with stop-motion, considering the length of time required to make it. I had hoped that the movie would be kinda narrated by Bonejangles, and I was surprised at how little of him was used. Other than that, I thought it was a very cute movie with a great score and fun songs.

ParticipantNo, I gotta get Monster’s back on this. I won’t see the movie until tomorrow, but “The Wedding Song” and “Making Christmas” definitely have similarities. Both are sung by the “dead” who are organizing something foreign to them; NBC was Christmas, Corpse Bride is a wedding. Both songs have a similar feel to them. My opinion might change after I see the movie, so perhaps most of you who’ve seen it already might prove me wrong.

ParticipantI wonder how many of these he signed? My family is skeptical but it really doesn’t take that long to get a whole bunch done. If he took only an hour out of one day to sign CDs, he’d have at least 300 or so CDs. Consider that Kevin Smith devotes several hours each day to signing stuff. Danny can do it once, and he did! It’s cool every time I look at it.
EDIT: OK, I’m not going to start a new director grudge, but Kevin Smith, who I’ve just mentioned, and also (so i’ve heard) had a meeting at Danny’s House concerning “Dogma,” had this to say about Corpse Bride in his blog: “…Harley (his daughter) and I are off to the Chinese Theater to check out Tim Burton’s latest (which I really love, despite the songs).” What the hell, man? But I’m fooling nobody, and I’ll be first in line to see “Clerks 2.”

ParticipantSpielberg is still brilliant! As is Danny! He seems really happy to have been able to do two movies in a row with Tim Burton, plus write and sing songs for both. It’s really a win-win-win situation. Danny’s happy, he’s raking in the cash, and most of us have enjoyed the products.

ParticipantI’d tell you guys to quit the arguing, but the last time I got into an angry argument here I made a friend out of it. However, it did not consist of Elfman bashing. Sure, you can choose not to like some of the stuff he produces, but at least come here as a fan of his music in general.

ParticipantJohn Williams vs. Danny Elfman, and JW won. Then again, he’s been around longer and is recognized by more non-film score enthusiasts.

ParticipantDamn, I’m on the east coast and I’m not going to be in California until April. For college visits. On that note, would anyone like to recommend me for a film school?

Mine looks like Danny really signed it. I mean, I’m pretty sure I see the stroke marks of the pen!

ParticipantThe report is that Kirsten Dunst spilled the beans and said Grace is playing Venom and Church is playing Sandman. I’m interested in the story, but I have close to no respect left for today’s Sam Raimi as opposed to a few years ago.

Participant“Moon Dance” brings back the majesty he achieved with “Ice Dance” 15 years back. The score is completely gorgeous. Now I still have to wait until the weekend to see the movie!
