ParticipantHas Elfman ever had a rejected score?
Not to my knowledge, no.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantHuh…
I’ll I can say to that is…
WE’RE NUCLEAR BABIES NOW!
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI almost have a hard time thinking that he’s doing it just for the money.
Of course Elfman is doing it for the money. With a budget as great as Nacho Libre, how can he resist that cold-hard cash?
(The budget of Spider-Man 3 is 250 million, by the way.)

ParticipantI wonder what interested him? Working with Jarred Hess? Doing a spanish based score? Or just doing a quickie gig that required little from him creatively, and just have some fun?
That’s a really good question. Maybe Danny really liked the temp-track.
Maybe the director is giving him free reign to write whatever he like’s.
Remember that Hess’ first movie cost virtually nothing to make. Now he is finishing post production on his second, and he already has the “Second Most Powerful Composer” at his disposal. I’m sure he just said “do what you want, Danny.”
I doubt Hess will squander Elfman’s music to make room for indie songs.

ParticipantHoly f**king-sh*t!
TenderLumpling
ParticipantOh, I see. I believe I based my user name on a lyric from The Nightmare Before Christmas — “Tender Lumpling’s everywhere, life’s no fun without a good scare” — which is a callback from Oingo Boingo.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantEr, I don’t think I understand your question.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantIsn’t the lead singer of Oingo Boingo the guy who did The Simpsons theme, what’s his face?
We all here love Oingo Boingo.
On MySpace you can hear some very rare recordings, some of which, I didn’t know existed.

ParticipantGood ol’ Walter Murphy.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantYeah! Why can’t more 14-year-olds be shockingly-hot?
TenderLumpling
ParticipantThey tend to disappear and come back.
I love those ads so much.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantAs it pains me to say this, I could care less who scores The Simpsons movie –unless it’s Elfman.
The Simpsons should have walked into the sunset years ago. It used to be so funny.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantDid Gus dislike Elfman using Herrmann’a music?
Gus demanded it.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantNeat. What was the music you used for it?
And I have a followup, where did this music come from? The choral piece.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantIt sounds like the score mock-up of the Main Title.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantWhat’s left for the Elfman DVD features? Psycho is a good one I never knew about.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantWow, a lot of you guys are in the business, say Ryan, can you get my adaptation of Stephen Colbert’s Alpha Squad 7: Lady Nocturne: A Tek Jansen Adventure green lit?
TenderLumpling
ParticipantBATMAN BEINGS?
I am retarded.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantHow about the musical travesty of the century?
Isn’t that Batman Beings? I’m sorry. I just listened to Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and it got me thinking how great that score could have been if Chris Nolan liked symphonic music in his films.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantAcoustic guitars! Yes!

ParticipantUltimately, if you love something, it doesn’t really matter what others think. But sometimes, people say these kinds of open-ended talking points about whatever, and sometimes I’ll call them on their Bull. And more often than not, they get very pissy about it.
(The open-ended talking point’s thing doesn’t apply to this board, just to be clear.)
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI’m not trying to change your opinion. I’m trying to understand it.
When someone says that a really good Elfman theme is uninspired and dull, I’d like to know why. If you won’t articulate why you feel a certain way — and I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t — than please, just say so; not doing so, is a disservice to this board… with all due respect.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI HATE musicals where there’s songs that go on and on and sound like regular film dialogue, but just being sung for the sake of it.
Like the Town Meeting Song?
Also, the melodies and themes just felt very uninspired and dull.
Compared to what, the Batman theme? The Corpse Bride main title has to be one of Elfman’s best theme’s in recent memory.
I didn’t feel like I could sing along with any of them, like I did with almost every song in NMBC.
Do you think that’s because you’ve had the time to memorize them?
TenderLumpling
ParticipantMine has 20 tracks, also. FYI, I got the album in ‘96.
TenderLumpling
ParticipantI have the original.
Didn’t the reissued score come out in 2000, when they rereleased Nightmare in theaters?
How does the remastered album sound, anyway? Is it noticeably different from the original?
