ParticipantUnsurprisingly, I’m totally indifferent to this release.
I felt the original soundtrack album was perfect – both in terms of sound and presentation.

The Goldsmith touch is unmistakable, of course, but the dark, foreboding brass, the “gothic” interval leaps and the general ambiance is very much cut from the same cloth that Elfman defined with BATMAN and onwards. Then again, you could say that the entire FILM wouldn’t have been made without the success of the Burton film, so the resemblance is kinda given in the respect.
Thor
ParticipantIt’s an OK score, but I’m tired of all the Goldsmith fanatics who in all seriousness claim that there’s no Elfman influence in this score.
Thor
ParticipantThere was already a Tim Burton compilation a couple of years ago (or was it last year), from Silva Screen, if memory serves.
Thor
ParticipantVery cool film, and not only because of the Boingo footage. I did a little review of it here:

Thor
ParticipantIf Danny should do this, he will OF COURSE use the themes, irrespective of how much he has changed as a composer. I’m confident that any other composer will reference them too. I’d be willing to bet my apartment on that. But let’s just wait untill the production gets on its way first.
Thor
ParticipantUhm….I’m not sure what you mean. To my knowledge, Elfman doesn’t do many “public performances” anymore, at least not since Oingo Boingo disbanded in 1995.
But welcome to the forum!

Thor
ParticipantSure, it’s up to the producing company. Still, if they want to do it, they’ll do it. There is no “rule” that makes it impossible for film themes to carry over to sequels produced by other companies.
Thor
ParticipantReally? Haven’t there been cases in the past where a film theme has carried over to sequels or reboots, even if the company producing the film is different?
Thor
ParticipantGreat news! I love Haggis, and if he can get more moody, ambient textures a la Isham’s glorious CRASH (or Elfman’s own THE KINGDOM) out of the composer, then I’m definitely game! I’m far more excited by this than any new superhero-type, bombastic score.
Thor
Participant[Default Thor reply]I don’t think they should release it at all. The existing album is perfect.[/Default Thor reply]
Thor
ParticipantSPAM ALERT!
Thor
ParticipantNo, I don’t think so. Like any artists, their style evolves, but all the classic Burton trademarks are still there, applied to whatever source material he chooses to tackle. Same with Elfman.
Thor
ParticipantYeah, I don’t even know what you’re trying to say!

Thor
ParticipantImpressive. You actually remember which DATES these soundtracks were released? I barely remember the YEAR.
Thor
ParticipantI don’t see how he could consider doing stuff like FLUBBER, HEARTBREAKERS, SPY KIDS or HOT TO TROT either. But sometimes, he just does things out of left field.
Thor
ParticipantI can’t even find the score album on iTunes. Only two songtracks and an EP thingie. No score, no Elfman.
Thor
ParticipantDamn, why is the Elfman track not available on the soundtrack from iTunes??
Thor
ParticipantNot bad. The HOOK selections are pretty good too!
Thor
ParticipantWill Wheaton? Is that the kid from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION?
Thor
ParticipantMenken’s POCHAHONTAS is pretty good too, but it’s apples and oranges, really.

That Zimmer credits his coworkers – whether for actually composing work or more remote stuff like music editing – is a positive thing, not a negative!
Thor
ParticipantStrange…that’s the first time I’ve seen someone criticizing someone for actually being prolific! The mind boggles…
Thor
ParticipantYou do if you want to show us all these socalled “hate reviews”.
